  1. Republican senators echoed Biden in urging Ukrainian president to reform prosecutor general's office The 2016 letter, sent by members of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, was signed by Republican Sens. Rob Portman, Mark Kirk and Ron Johnson, as well as Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin, Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Murphy, Sherrod Brown, and Richard Blumenthal and focused on longstanding issues of corruption in Ukraine and urged reforms of the government. At a hearing in March 2016 on Ukrainian reforms, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, the Republican chair of the Committee who would one day become a top Trump critic within the GOP, raised concerns about corruption in Ukraine and said his hearing would delve into what pressure the U.S. could apply.
  2. Let's recap the bidding: Shokin was fired due to the EU, IMF, US (including Republicans in Congress) and Poroshenko concluding that Shokin was not investigating Burisma. In 2019, Rudy Guiliani went to Ukraine to try to make a story out of this (which is where the FD-1023 came from). Apart from Rudy's fairy tales (Rudy is an admitted liar), you've got nothing. https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:b321eef0-2d52-431b-8aa9-fc1dad0d9838 Explainer: Biden, allies pushed out Ukrainian prosecutor because he didn't pursue corruption cases Nov. 15, 2019 WASHINGTON – A whistleblower complaint centering on President Donald Trump's phone call with the Ukrainian president has spurred a number of allegations and counterallegations as Republicans and Democrats jockey for position amid an impeachment inquiry. At the heart of Congress' probe into the president's actions is his claim that former Vice President and 2020 Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden strong-armed the Ukrainian government to fire its top prosecutor in order to thwart an investigation into a company tied to his son, Hunter Biden. But sources ranging from former Obama administration officials to an anti-corruption advocate in Ukraine say the official, Viktor Shokin, was ousted for the opposite reason Trump and his allies claim. It wasn't because Shokin was investigating a natural gas company tied to Biden's son; it was because Shokin wasn't pursuing corruption among the country's politicians, according to a Ukrainian official and four former American officials who specialized in Ukraine and Europe. Shokin's inaction prompted international calls for his ouster and ultimately resulted in his removal by Ukraine's parliament. Without pressure from Joe Biden, European diplomats, the International Monetary Fund and other international organizations, Shokin would not have been fired, said Daria Kaleniuk, co-founder and executive director of the Anti Corruption Action Centre in Kiev. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/eu-hails-sacking-of-ukraine-s-prosecutor-viktor-shokin-1.2591190 " The European Union has welcomed the dismissal of Ukraine's scandal-ridden prosecutor general and called for a crackdown on corruption, even as the country's political crisis deepened over efforts to form a new ruling coalition and appoint a new prime minister. Ukraine's parliament voted overwhelmingly to fire Viktor Shokin, ridding the beleaguered prosecutor's office of a figure who is accused of blocking major cases against allies and influential figures and stymying moves to root out graft."
  3. These "news" reports simply cite old unproven allegation mostly from Rudy Guiliani. Zero proof. Here's what Devon Archer said under oath about Shokin: https://oversight.house.gov/release/comer-releases-devon-archers-transcribed-interview-transcript/ "so Shokin wasn’t specifically on my radar as being an individual that was ‑‑ that was targeting him." Note that your links are all recent. And one uses Shokin as a source. I remember when Shokin was fired. You are trying to gaslight people here. Shame on you.
  4. But you ignore all the other links affirming that Shokin was not investigating Burisma. Why is that?
  5. Didn't you tell us that the case against Trump was only allegations, and Trump is innocent until proven guilty? Why the double standard?
  6. I will provide links showing that it was common knowledge that Shokin wasn't prosecuting Burisma. You can provide links backing up your position. Please don't quote Shokin. https://www.rferl.org/amp/why-was-ukraine-top-prosecutor-fired-viktor-shokin/30181445.html https://www.cnn.com/factsfirst/politics/factcheck_3fae078e-8724-4c28-9340-2c154688af43 https://www.ft.com/content/e1454ace-e61b-11e9-9743-db5a370481bc https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-brian-kilmeade-accidentally-demolishes-a-hunter-biden-ukraine-conspiracy-theory https://www.unian.info/society/1170127-auto-maidan-protesters-arrived-at-poroshenkos-residence-demanding-shokins-resignation-photos.html Good luck!
  7. A question for you: What if a Mafia Don were indicted, and he publicly stated that anyone who testifies against him is going to die? You are suggesting that there should be no way from a judge to stop that? The reality is that there are all sorts of allowed restrictions on free speech.
  8. If you recall, there was a judge at the time who issued rulings that slowed the case down, at the requests of Trump's lawyers. If you want to blame someone for the "late" indictment in that case, you can blame Trump.
  9. It is common under the US legal system for criminal defendants to have their speech abridged. If you don't understand why, I will explain Are you suggesting that Trump be treated differently from other defendants?
  10. They focused on Ukraine's chief prosecutor. You don't seem to understand that.
  11. The US had the right to decline funding for Ukraine if Ukraine didn't deal with their corruption problem. One major issue in Ukraine was that their chief prosecutor wasn't doing his job. So, the agencies funding Ukraine demanded that Shokin be fired. You still don't seem to understand this.
  12. At what point should the prosecutor have charged Trump for his theft of classified documents?
  13. Sure it is. An indicted person can have their speech limited by a judge. Let me ask you this: do you understand that an incarcerated person can have their constitutional rights abridged?
  14. The solution is for the judge to mandate that Trump run his public releases through his lawyers.
  15. Let me guess: You think the charges in the NYC fraud case are bogus. You think the classified documents case is bogus. You think the Georgia case is bogus. You think the Federal Jan 6 case is bogus. And now you think the New York state fraud case is bogus. Trump is innocent of all of this, despite all the documentation, the literal tons of evidence. But Joe Biden is guilty of something, despite the complete lack of published evidence, right? What happened to "everyone is equal under the law"? Why do you maintain 2 different standards of justice in your head?
  16. I recently flew Thai Business Class BKK-DEL. The plane was a 777-200ER, but very old and not modernized at all. So, it was 1990s vintage Business Class, basically Premium Economy by today's standards. The in-flight entertainment system failed repeatedly.

  18. What is your opinion of the huge salaries that CEOs are making?
  19. Facts are a stubborn thing. They don't go away, even if you ignore them.
  20. Your talking points come from oil industry sources. They use the same techniques (if not the same "scientists") that the tobacco lobby used to "prove" that tobacco didn't cause cancer.
  21. But in this topic, you contend that the vast majority of scientists are wrong about Climate Change, and you are right. I hope you have the self awareness to notice that you use long debunked Oil industry assertions as the basis of your mistaken beliefs.
  22. Can you describe the mechanism by which increased temperature causes increased CO2? The mechanism by which increased CO2 causes increased temperature is well known: it's called the Greenhouse effect, and it's well understood. Increasing CO2 levels in the last 40 years have resulted in increased global temperatures. You should be concerned about CO2 levels in the atmosphere. https://www.climate.gov/media/14605
  23. Perhaps some people are concerned because of changes in the climate. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/26/antarctic-sea-ice-shrinks-to-lowest-annual-maximum-level-on-record-data-shows Antarctic sea ice shrinks to lowest annual maximum level on record, data shows
