  1. My feeling: Rawai is dry, dryer than e.g, Kata, which is again dryer than Patong.

Before I moved to Rawai I used to like in Ao Makham, and that was also very dry. On my way there was one spot, always the same, where the rain stopped, like a line on the road.

  2. About 15,000 Baht.

Thanks for your reply. Seems a lot for a sort of semi skilled job. But these are the sort of figures i have been hearing. I guess they have a lot of responsibility though. I think your answer is quite accurate. Do you know this from a source or is this a guesstimate? Thanks

That is what the guys here in the area, Phuket, get paid.

  3. Hopefully a Moderator is reading these posts by MRO/ORM and can assist him with his accounts, as like many of you I enjoy his input.

    Cheers

    Woodsie

Hear Hear, Mro/Orm is the closest thing to a local Moderator (I mean in this context someone with real knowledge and not a person who weeds and cuts) we have in this Subforum. Please Thaivisa do give him some consideration. wai.gif

    Thanks for the support.

    Have mine too...

    And mine as well.

  4. Welcome back MRO did you get banned and came back in disguise

Nothing quite so dramatic I'm afraid: http://www.thaivisa....s/#entry5229584

P.S. I'll fix this list tomorrow, quite a few changes I can see I've missed sad.png

P.P.S. Who knows, I could actually get myself banned yet though - forum rules state you're not allowed to have more than one account, but <deleted> are you meant to do when any decent email server bounces TV emails back into the ether? crazy.gif

    I guess it's ORM now...welcome back...and maybe we start with the tire pressure(just kidding)biggrin.png

Looks like welcome back and goodbye.

  5. Didn't want to start a new thread for something so unimportant, but for a couple of days I've had no members names at the bottom of my screen, is that the same for everyone or just me?

If who ever decides to slag my post off first could answer that while they are at it, I would be grateful. tongue.png

    Here the same, no names.

  6. I don't think it's very clear at all. I have stated I would be prepared to take the risk on mowing my own lawn, but would not take the risk on mowing anyone else's lawn.

    You daredevil.

Your interpretation of my posts leaves a lot to be desired.

  7. As already mentioned here these sort of 'problems' usually only occur when a report has been made to Immigration and the authorities are duty bound to follow up. These reports are usually made by business competition, disgruntled neighbors or staff, general disputes, and the like. If you look deeper into previous high profile cases you will see that's the case.

I agree. However, if I am Thai, and own a lawn mowing business here, if I make the telephone call to Immigration and dob in a farang who I see mowing a lawn here, what will happen? In a previous post, we only have an "opinion" or an "interpretation" of the law from an interview with an Officer of the Employment Department published in the PG. I don't think you can rely on that, at Thai law.

I have an elderly farang friend with a bad hip. I carry his shopping bags for him. The problem is, where does "friendship" end and working ilegally starts in Thailand?

He lives in a condo, but if he lived in a house and asked me to mow his lawn for him as well, I think I would have to decline. There would be a risk of me breaching the law here because it's his place, not mine, and it seems unclear if you can even mow your own lawns here with absolute certainty you will not be in breach.

I think it is all very clear.

Yes, you can mow your own lawn, no problem. Yes, you can mow your friend's lawn, but you do run a (small) risk.

  8. The wine and cheese and the conferences and the pens and charts are given whether the drugs are prescribed or not. While I am no supporter of big corporations or their tactics in general , this is just advertising, and not inducement, as any doctors are free to suck up the goodies and then prescribe a competitor's (or a generic) drug.

I think you could be right about certain things you mention here, but this of course is BS. Anybody who thinks these enticements have no positive effect on the sales of the company/product should start wondering why they keep offering them.

Like with all products, also here there are many, many reasons to buy/recommend a certain product that have nothing to do with the product itself but with the company selling it, the packaging, the service, etc.

  9. There is a farang guy where I live who regularly goes along the beach searching through the bins and filling his sack with plastic bottles, cans etc. This is highly embarassing if I take staff or clients for a meal in one of the beach restaurants and they see him. Do you think he could get done for working without a WP?

    Why would that be embarrassing?

    So, it's you?

No, it is not me. But again, why would that be embarrassing for you? Vicarious shame?

  11. Commercial or not really is not the issue. Think of all kind of volunteer activities, all not allowed without workpermit.

The volunteer tourist police did not require a work permit awhile back

You were only supposed to assist the police with tourist problems but

usually ended up doing the whole job yourself

Thanks for pointing out the exception Peter.

correct but volunteers are involved in a commercial environment, being paid or not is not relevant. HOWEVER doing home chores is non commercial and therefore not a breach, because if following your logic(do not mean you personally) one could be arrested for carrying his/her own groceries from the storesmile.png

or arrested for driving his own car

Agree with you, I just think 'commercial' is not the correct word or criterium. Many volunteers are not involved in a commercial environment, but still volunteering illegal.

  13. I bought a car in November and the dealer explained that they were out of red plates as they are only allocated a set amount for the year and Thai's are notorious for taking their time to come and get their white plates. Something to do with the perception of having a new car. Anyway, we waited about 6 or 7 months for the white plates and never had any issues driving locally. May have been different if I had taken a drive to Bangkok or out of province.

I have noted from some threads that there are dealerships that will call you and arrange to bring your new white plates to your home and fit them there. That way they get their red plates back quicker for the next new customer. However, I think those dealerships would probably be in the minority as that is 'after-sales service' as far as they are concerned and not a priority.

After 30 days it's the BUYERS problem. Big fine. If you do not get your plates from the dealer then go to the gov office and complain.

Potentially big fine I would say.

  14. conversation between two members removed. Better to use the PM function.

I will repeat a previous question since it has been delete

Is a PM (personal message) private or is it read by other people

If it is not why is a swear word in a PM deleted or modified when this

does not happen with my personal Emails

AFAIK private. The Thai Visa software will automatically adjust certain words, whether on open forum or by PM.

  15. That is why glassdude said 'start your search from'. So you're agreeing with him, but still manage to make it sound like you're disagreeing.

Steven, The place glassdude recommended is one and two bedroom apartments

with shared pool Not houses, The OP wants a house not a apartment

Read again i am not disagreeing with him although i regularly disagree with you

Quote on my full posts please

    1. I quoted you in full;

    2. glassdude is saying the same as you're saying, with which I agree: come and do a search on the spot. The difference is he is giving a recommendation for a place to stay while doing the search.

Steven or is it Simon He is recommending a Apartment complex, The OP wants

to rent a house with its own private pool not a Apartment there are plenty of

apartments you can rent shore term at a higher rate

I thought my nick was pretty obvious.

Please try to understand what 3 people on here now are trying to explain to you: you're saying the OP should come here to find a house himself. Glassdude is saying the same, and in addition he is saying: while searching for a house, a good place to stay would be the appartments he mentioned.

  16. The OP was asking about a house not a apartment, there are plenty of

apartments with shared pool for under 30K three bedrooms could be a problem

That is why glassdude said 'start your search from'. So you're agreeing with him, but still manage to make it sound like you're disagreeing.
