1. Yes, I like this class.

However, it has gone up in price considerably over the last few years, and for me it is too expensive at the moment, I don't think it is worth it to pay 15,000 baht extra (one way!!) on top of a ticket of more or less 20,000 Baht (presuming 1,000 Euro return ticket).

  2. so the conscientious is that this school is terrible and should be avoided?

or is it very few incidents?

I think there are not many incidents. A few friends of mine have their kids here and are haopy with it, so it is one of the schools i am considering for mine.

  3. Mamas& papas Sounds good is t the same road as Dons was in i dont know where Sai Yaun is.

Yes, same road as Don's used to be. Coming from Nai Harn just before Don's place on the opposite side of the street, with the small mini golf place.
  4. A proven pretty good one and bargain, is Mamas & Papas (across the street from Soi Nanachat) Friday night BBQ. Great potatoes au gratin, lots of food off the grill. Problem, during high season the dive and tourist buses pull up, so get it now and the next couple months. Cheap Chang drafts for you Chang drinkers too.

The dive business that used to go there is not coming anymore. So also during high season no problem going there.
  5. Avoid Tigerair if necessary. They receive thousands of complains every day. They will not explain to you much because they are budget flight. The staff performance is the worst I had ever meet so far. I'd already boycott them long ago.

I had bought a duty free liquor on board, no plastic carrier for the bottle. I insist one, you know what. I got an "used" supermarket plastic bag I think they pick it up from the rubbish bin or somewhere else. I write and ask them why they do not have a proper bag for our purchase. They answered, because we provide budget ticket for you, we will save all cost to remain the cheapest ticket fare. Fly cheap or pay a little more- you decide!?

You've got to be kidding. You're complaining they did not give you a new plastic bag, so the environment can get polluted even more?
  6. Hi,The Similan islands are closed until October, there are many boat trips there from phuket, You can stay on one of the islands, there are NO hotels, only small huts or camping tents, this is a national park there are park rangers who will pick you up and take you to the huts / camp site, you need to take provisions with you, BEWARE mosquitos!!!! Lots of people stay here because of the Great Dive sites.

    Enjoy

check out the department of national parks official website

Yes, may people stay there, but not because of the great divesites. Diving is done from boats coming in from o0utside the islands, ni divecenter/tank filling etc. on the islands. Most people staying are relaxing and/or snorkeling, not diving.
  7. satree isnt a cheap public school? I always see drunks getting their kid in beatup cars there.

After reading through all of the posts I think that you should enroll in an English class, your grammar is appalling :annoyed:

Well, there are native English speakers here on the forum making all kinds og grammar and spelling mistakes.

Easy to pick on a non-native speaker.

  8. Have to agree with the previous poster. Enquired about household insurance last year, and concluded from his response he did not listen to me or read my information properly. He only cared about the sales.

Before i came to thailand i worked as marketing manager for an insurance company, so know my insurances.

  9. I almost fell out of my chair... You have never been to an open market? I saw it every week when we would shop for our local produce. I had a Thai friend tell me if I ever needed the hospital to be sure as try to discount the price... I was shocked and tried and guess what, the Thai was right... Phuket International does indeed discount.

Honestly the only place I have not seen a Thai try to negotiate was 1. at the movies, 2. food stalls, 3. national parks (not that they need to they already get in 10* cheaper).

You must roll with HI-SO's that pretend money doesn't matter, while they are maxing out their CC's to look rich.

Strange, whenever I or my wife go to the market we get good prices, which she accepts straight away. As does everybody else in the market. Unless you talk about the tourists market like Otop in Patong?

Oh, and at national parks I always get the Thai price. But now we're on the track of dual pricing again, which is not the topic of this thread.

And I am not a Hi-So, on the contrary. Strange conclusion you come to, just while we do our shopping at the same places as the Thais (no cc's accepted BTW).

  10. Secondly, 'when in rome', thais do NOT negotiate on prices, that has only come to thailand with foreigners.

You're kidding right? They at least try, to negotiate on everything from Homepro to hospitals

That is not my experience. Thais accept given prices, it is the westerners who want to negotiate everything.
  11. that does not work on phuket.

Secondly, 'when in rome', thais do NOT negotiate on prices, that has only come to thailand with foreigners.

Would that not be because generally prices are increased for foreigners?

That is a different discussion, I would suggest to not even go there in this thread. Many threads on this subject already.
  12. Nope. Not been to Phuket yet. On the 35% off, try calling or emailing the hotel, ask for the rack rate, then tell them you will give them Bxxx (calculate 40% off). Even when cheaper on a hotel site, remember that the site gets at LEAST 10% of that. The hotel will gladly book directly with you and not need to wait a month or more for the money to come from the site :)

BTW, all, it's not the price that bothers me. $200/mo is nothing compared to any place in the States. It's the part of "When in Rome..." ;)

that does not work on phuket.

Secondly, 'when in rome', thais do NOT negotiate on prices, that has only come to thailand with foreigners.

  13. On a more serious note, I do tend to get 35% off the "rack rate" of hotels when I ask
Have you tried this on Phuket? I am asking, because, with the exception of the cheaper guesthouses, in general the hotel booking websites are cheaper than the hotels themselves, and walk in rates are a lot higher, and bargaining options are very, very limited.
  14. Apologize for my previous illegible post. I try again here below.

I also was under the impression that Phuket Air were no longer operating after the EU blacklisted the airline, banning it from flying to Europe.

If this aircraft was leased from Phuket Air surely it wouldn't be carrying the Phuket Air livery but the Saudi Arabian Airlines. The maintenance will depend on the kind of agreement the airlines did.

Wet lease - Provides an aircraft, complete crew, maintenance and insurance.

Dry lease - Provides an aircraft without the crew, ground staff, maintenance, insurance, etc.
I would not lease from Phuket Airlines and leave the maintenance to them, recipe for disaster.

  16. No reason to shout :realangry:

Yes, if you booked the whole deal with Cathay Pacific, and they said you'd make the onward flight, I would also go to them for a refund of the flight you did not make.

Probably because you have just presumed he had booked the tickets too close together and had no travel insurance

Well, he did book the tickets too close together, and he does seem not to have cancellation insurance (in a lot of countries not the same as travel insurance), which is what I referred to.
  17. Hi

650 Baht from phuket airport to Katabeach is quite a good fare, most hotel taxi's charge in the range of 800 Baht. - the journey from the airport will take approx 40 minutes to Kata Beach

The limousine service is the same price approx 800 - 1000 Baht

    best wishes

Limousine service (Toyata Camry most of the time) is 700 Baht these days. meter taxi will normally be around 500-550 Baht, including the airport surcharge.

You are correct though, most hotels will charge from 800 baht upwards.
