  1. I was checked on the airport link road. They looked inside all the cars, decided to stop me, and asked for the sticker allowing me to enter the restricted zone. Since I was on the way to the airport and well away from the restricted zone, I stared a discussion with them and after 5 minutes could rive away without any problems. Looked to me like they wanted some money from people who were not exactly sure about the rules here.

  2. USEFUL INFO REGARDING HOTEL KEY CARDS

    This is pretty good info.

Please do your research before posting this kind of nonsense.

    What a really helpful post.!!!

Some advice to you: If you have nothing to say, don't post

If you have something valid to impart then we would all love to hear it

Well, since this is an urban myth, he is right: do research before posting this nonsense.

  3. I have been hearing from several people that you have to go and register your car/motorbike license registration number AND receive a sticker to put on your car so that when they have the meetings in Laguna next week you can drive through that area otherwise NO ONE can pass through even if you live there. Does anyone know where/how to register???

If you work there, your employer will handle it for you. I suspect that if you DON'T work there - you won't be able to get such a sticker.

So how about people that live there?

And you think all employers will check with their staff whether they need a sticker?

If the situation is the way the op has heard, a lot of people will not be able to reach there homes or work place.

  4. If you are switching airlines in BKK, then no, you will check your bags in Phuket, pick them up at the carosel in BKK, head to the EVA counter, check in there, check bags, and then go through immigration there.
    Not correct.

Thai is the handler for Eva, so you can check in already in Phuket. I have flown them a few times and checked in in Phuket already.

  5. The simple fact is in Thailand the tenant is responsible.

However the plus points are property insurance is not expensive and will include your private items e.g. computers/laptops etc

Thai Visa Insurance can offer various plans to cover all eventualities. Please email your requirements :

I guess that not one single Thai who rents property out thinks that he should insure his own asset.

I wonder who they try to screw over when they have a void period ? the last tenant ? on the grounds that if they had not moved out then they would have been liable ? or the next tenant ? on the grounds that had they moved in sooner then they would have been liable ?

Now this is a nice contribution that adds something to the discussion.
  6. 1. me plus kid (if kid friendly location)

    2. Rawai

    3. all mentioned venues acceptable, like the sound of Sports Club though

    4. Any date as far as I can tell at the moment.

  7. I would love to try body boarding, but im a bit scared of rip currents. Is it easier to survive if you are on a body board?
The rip currents itself are not dangerous, the problem is they drag you out towards the sea, and people tend to fight the current. Just let the current take you or swim perpendicular to the current, and you'll be ok.

On a board it is even easier.

  8. It is always quiet this time of year, and all shopowners are complaining this time of year.

The numbers are down, but not the way everybody is speaking of.

Think that you are wrong. High density areas such as Patong, the percentage of less tourists is subjective as it always has the appearance of being busy. On the rest of the island it is vastly more noticeable. I've been here 3 years now, and June to September is always my favourite time, and the period where I tend to visit more places throughout the island. This year, everywhere is very low down, and speaking to the staff in various places, it's obvious they are fearful for their jobs. I also have friends in hotel management, and whilst the majority are 'paying' staff off, the better ones are giving unpaid holidays in the hope that business will pick up later in the year. If you drive through Kata at say 8 pm, where even in the low/summer season, there were always tourists wandering around, looking at shops/restaurants, at the moment it's like a ghost town.

Just wait 1 month, and then we can have a much better idea. June is always very quiet, and everybody is always complaining in and about June, forgetting that it was the same last year.

July is always busier, so if things don't improve in July, I agree. But if, as usual, things pick up in July it is just looking like a normal low season to me.

  9. A previous post mentions PAWS has no claws, interesting - perhaps 'think' before posting next time.
Isn't the fact that PAWS has no claws exactly what you are confirming in the following quote?
As someone who volunteers with PAWS and is aware of the complete lack of animal welfare legislation in Thailand, I can confirm that there is nothing 'legal' that any animal welfare foundation can do.
