True, in Perth they put a lot of effort into finding these special spots where drivers are coming out of round-a-bouts and congested areas into a nice open straight stretch of road and naturally their speed increases momentarily and ZAP.

What sort of neighbors do you have? Well it cost me 60,000 Bt to have this 2.2m high wall built between them and us a couple of months ago. So that's the answer to your question. 😂

If Thailand refused you, where would you live? And why?

Cambodia or PIs for me. Also I'm getting on in years now, so I could just call it quits and return to Australia. -

Makes me laugh when I see these snow white "aboriginals" on TV referring to themselves as "blackfella" and talking about my "mob", many have been exposed over the years as frauds. They might soon have to start DNA testing many of the ones who are claiming extra benefits for being indigenous, there's talk of free tertiary education for them. -
Been happening for decades, foreign tourists who drive cars back in their home countries, come to Samui and other tourists spots and rent these mcs. They don't have much experience with mcs and zero experience with Thai traffic. Many of the younger ones (and I'm not saying it's the case here) have had a few beers or a few spliffs, which makes matters worse.

I give them a very wide berth, if I'm not with my Thai wife I'll move well away from LBs when I'm walking around Pattaya.- 143 replies

Hua Hin spotlighted by Forbes as top destination for the over-60s
grain replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
I agree with Forbes on this one. In my opinion HH is the best destination for retirees. I've lived there a few times over the years and stayed there for 4 nights last month. If you look for accommodation near the beach then that's expensive, but move in 2kms and monthly rentals are very reasonable, with some lovely views. HH is not so far from BKK, which is a plus if you need to go there for any reason (airport, embassy, business) It's also the gateway to the South if you want to go to Samui or Phuket or Krabi. HH has excellent food for all budgets, good shopping at the Village & Blueport. There's a bar & music scene. HH has a lot going for it. I'd far prefer to retire there than BKK or Pattaya. -

Yeah, he really screwed this up. Wasted nearly $400 million of taxpayers money that could have be spent on hospitals and housing, and stirred up a hornet's nest of racial division. Good one Albo! -

Having people like Lidia Thorpe running around screaming the "C" word at people and ranting about genocide of her people (when she herself is 75% Anglo/Celt) didn't help the yes campaign. -
There seems to be these endless cycles of luring more foreign visitors with gifts and easy visas, then after the foreigners numbers increase, they start making things difficult again and coming up with plans to charge the foreigners extra and bring in extra taxes.

One I went to at a hospital in Sri Racha gave me a price to do a big filling & crown, the price seemed ok so I said lets go ahead and do it, but when I went to pay the bill it was so much more, because the price she gave me was for her work only, the hospital added on use of the dental surgery, and the service of the dental assistant, and other charges. To make matters worse she didn't do a good job. The crown was jammed so tight between the teeth on either side that food would get stuck in there but I couldn't get a toothpick or even floss in between the teeth to remove the trapped food, which no doubt caused bad odors. Then a year later the tooth started aching again, so I paid another dentist 500Bt to pull the damn thing out and throw it in the bin. There are excellent dentists in Thailand but you need to ask around.

The Original Thailand Vegetarian Festival Begins in Phuket This Weekend
grain replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
This has got to be the biggest fake festival I've ever seen. For one week most Thais will eat vegetarian. When you ask them why they'll tell you it's good, it's more healthy to stop eating meat for a week, kinda gives the body a chance to detox and get ride of toxins. And I always think...if you really believe that then how the hell can you go back to eating meat again next week? -

Where to get rabies and tetanus shots in Cha am (or Hua Hin)

Indeed, the nearest gov hospital will have plenty of experience in this matter, and lowest prices. -
I've been in a very close loving relationship with my TGF for these past 10 years, the subject of marriage has cropped up a couple of times but I can't see one benefit for me to get legally married. Not even visa - even if I was legally married I'd still remain on a retirement ext, as it's far simpler to do than the married ext. I've already made a will for her that covers all my Thailand assets. So as I say I've considered it and don't see a single benefit for me.

Australian Tourist Visa Application
grain replied to David48's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
because before the pandemic they were issuing 3 year multi-entry tourist visas, my TGF had one issued in Nov 2019. But since the pandemic it now seems they no longer issuing the 3-year visas, just the 12 month ones. Perhaps they will start doing it again sometime in the future. -

Getting a teenager to learn English in Korat
grain replied to surreybloke's topic in Language School Courses
Yes, that is so true. I taught English to Thais for about 25 years. The big problem is they only use English in the classroom, for example 1 hour a day M-F, but the second they exit the classroom English stops and it's 100% Thai until next English lesson. My students were from a wide range, some business people, uni and high school students, military and gov workers, and the only students who showed any real progress were the bar & hotel staff, reason being they had access to English speaking foreigners and the opportunity to converse with them. -
Yes, I was at the Samila Hotel, I set off early, 6am. On that stretch of sand adjacent to the Mermaid statue I counted 18 dogs, as I got around where that strip of seafood restaurants are, there were countless dogs, later as I got into Laem Son On it was ridiculous. There are entire packs and you can clearly see they are all from the same litter, so there are all these packs living in there. I watched one Thai woman roll up on a mc and throw food around for the dogs and counted 26 coming out of the bushes within a few seconds. As I said there must be hundreds of them living in that narrow cape.
