  1. What's even nicer is comparing the stale rate that changes only once a day for cash advances from a debit card to the real spot rate. You can withdraw at the old rate even if the USD tanks that day. Or conversely don't withdraw at the old rate on a day like today when the dollar is rising. To make this worthwhile you need a debit card that rebates the Thai bank ATM fee and doesn't charge any added bank fees. https://www.visa.co.th/en_TH/travel-with-visa/exchange-rate-calculator.html
  2. How is health care in Guam? USA's Medicare can be used there, right?
  3. I don't think they wanted anything but my passport. But I did have other documents with me so I am not entirely sure. It was quite easy. I also kept telling the rep to take my Thai Tax Identification Number so no tax would be withheld. She said tax must be withheld . But I was insistent and that they at least take my number even if they are going to withhold tax. When interest was received in June, I only had the account for a few days, no tax was withheld though. Maybe what they meant was tax over 20K would be withheld which isn't going to happen given the size of my account. This was at the Central Festival branch in Pattaya.
  4. Yes, a good question. Perhaps banks have to pay an insurance premium based on covered deposits so this means the banks will make more money.
  5. I "think" you can get an ATM card but not sure. But I transfer money in less than than a minute to Krungsri and use my Krungsri card.
  6. Yup, Because of the rule I looked around and found the SCB Easy Account which pays 1.5% interest. https://www.scb.co.th/en/personal-banking/deposits/savings-account/easy-saving-account.html Note this account does not have a passbook and probably can't be used for Immigration purposes.
  7. We just did that but would not accept the form because the fisrst name, last name, and passport number combination is already on file. Anyone have ideas how to get this info to them. If it was an individual hospital we could call, but how does one get in touch with those who administer the form as the email we received said do not respond to the email?
  8. OK he must have missed that when registering. But now there seems to be no way to correct the problem.
  9. From the new consular site, after initial acceptance a friend got this email saying they needed his visa even though he thinks it was never asked for. Anyone get a similar email?
  10. A friend of mine received the following email. We were filling out the form together and I don't remember then asking about his visa but perhaps we both missed it. But it is unclear how to remedy the situation as clicking on the link shows the registration to be a success. Any ideas? This happen to anyone?
  11. Vasu is the best in that area. But if you are changing a substantial amount a cash then the Headquarters of SuperRich Thailand might be worth the walk. https://www.superrichthailand.com/#!/en/exchange
  12. I've had good luck with this shop.
  13. Opened a SCB EZ Savings account today. Currently paying 1.5% interest so a pretty good deal. The rep told me that even though other banks may not withhold tax that, SCB does withhold. I know I can file a Thai tax return to recoup the withheld tax but would prefer it not be withheld in the first place. Does anyone NOT have tax withheld from a SCB account? Does anyone use this account to satisfy the 800K bank requirement for an extension of stay or do you need a passbook account? Are there any hidden traps when using this account that you think one might not be aware of?
