Regarding the airport taxis, the problems continue to exist because of passengers who accept rides from drivers who have already tried to scam them. If they refused the taxi, reported it to the airport desk and took another, it may eventually dawn on the shysters.

The moral is, never accept a taxi driver who has already firmly established his dishonesty by "changing his mind" about not using the meter, it will always end in tears; there are plenty of other drivers who are not <deleted>.

We agree... the dangers of using a phone while refuelling and leaving your car running while refuelling are exaggerated.... Does that mean there is no risk ? No, it does not, necessarily, mean that there is o risk but, as there are apparently no confirmed incidents of such explosions, I'd say the risk is minimal. It sure wouldn't stop me from using a phone if I had to or letting the engine run. My comments are based purely on some posters' assertions that they are likely to cause explosions, nothing deeper than that.

What you will do if it was you facing this situation? Sorry, but if it were me, I'd never have booked accommodation through someone I did not know and have no other means of contacting except via a chat app. I think that's where you went wrong and you should now just write it off and put it down to experience.

No, there's no law about it, they are not "banned". If they were banned this debate would not be able to exist! What are you on? Phones are not banned from petrol stations, no one will ever be prevented from entering a petrol station with a phone in their vehicle, hand or pocket, just as running engines aren't banned from forecourts, either.

I didn't say that, I am doubting the rationale of the reasons, though. If anyone has any conclusively proven evidence to the contrary, I'm more than happy to get stuck into my humble pie!
