  1. So try the three Kasikorn branches in Chaiyaphum! Krungsri opened an account for me with just proof of address (lease) and passport. So did Kasikorn and Krungthai.
  2. No, you don't generally need a yellow book but you'll probably need a work permit, proof of income and maybe a guarantor. You could ask BBL for a loan but their criteria will still have to be met. A certificate of residency issued by Immigration, or your embassy, may be accepted as proof of address. Why don't you ask the dealer that you're buying the car from for his finance company's requirements, they're not all the same, some are less strict than others.
  3. That was the case but after that area was all re-paved the cycle paths never returned, thank God.
  4. Perfectly true, and if any single person on this forum would spot that it would be you. If you walk from Nana, you will need to dip down onto Sukhumvit and then back up near the Hyatt(?). "Perfectly true, and if any single person on this forum would spot that it would be you". Nothing personal, I just tend to react to posters' saying things that aren't strictly true, it could be useful to other members. "If you walk from Nana, you will need to dip down onto Sukhumvit and then back up near the Hyatt(?)". Sofitel.
  5. Next you will be arguing that nobody receives preferential treatment or there's no corruption here and expect us all to believe it. Well, I've been there and the only preferential treatment that I saw was the over 60's being allowed to use a toilet with half a door on it for a bit of privacy. If you have had a different experience personally, detail it, I'd love to hear it. If you have empirical evidence of preferential treatment in prison that would be interesting to read also and I don't mean hearsay. I have never said that there is no corruption here.
  6. OK, maybe not luxury but there are private cells, mobile phones, drugs/alcohol, half decent food, conjugal visits available if you have cash to pay guards. Certainly luxury compared to being in the sardine section eating fish head soup every day. Obviously, you've never been in a Thai prison. There are no private cells, mobile phones are not permitted neither are drugs or alcohol in any Thai prisons. Food can be bought from the prison shops or ordered the night before by inmates or purchased by visitors at the visitor's shop and sent in. Those outside can arrange for food to be sent in to inmates, that is a facility that is available to everyone. Ask me how I know. Conjugal visits are not available, not even for cash, the one you linked to was a one-off, it did not happen in the prison and the Governor was fired as a result. The mythical fish head soup being served every day is just that, a myth, standard prison food may not be particularly appetising to some (to some it's better than they get outside) but it's better than that soup that is only served in the minds of some Thaivisa posters. Ask me how I know.
  7. There is already a sky walk from the Hyatt Regency at Soi 13 that goes directly to Nana BTS but it is not connected to the Sofitel-Asoke sky walk. Don't think there's any room for another one!
  8. Then, as we know now, and thank you for elaborating this so clearly, this is a Private Forum, and the members are considered as not in any position to pompously decide or have an opinion. "Then, as we know now, and thank you for elaborating this so clearly, this is a Private Forum, and the members are considered as not in any position to pompously decide or have an opinion". I did not say that members are not in a position to have an opinion, those are you words deliberately twisting what I actually said. I said that this is a private forum and members do not get to pompously dictate what is "worthy", as you did, nor what is posted where and by whom. I have no interest in your diatribe about the definition of "members" but you go ahead, fill yer boots.
  9. Bow down to your greater knowledge . I take it you're trying to be sarcastic. If you have never been in a Thai prison then my knowledge is greater than yours.
  10. I think he meant hidden cash ! No, he definitely didn't mention hidden cash.
  11. Not without using the pavement half way, you don't. The skywalk isn't continuous from Nana to Asoke.
  12. Urban myth in Thailand, there are no "luxury wings" in Thai prisons.
  13. Covered at the beginning of the article... "...has 600 million baht in the bank, property and cars". Cash is an asset.
  14. That is what I have always understood to be the legal case, but in the real world, who would be brave enough to continue living in "their" house in a village when the Thai family have made it clear that the farang should get lost? An individual's choice, clearly but you refer to the foreigner-owned house as "theirs", it is not "theirs" in inverted commas (suggesting that ownership of the house is doubtful) it is their house.
  15. Thanks for confirming that. I agree, depending on individual choices and circumstances, it may not be the most sensible thing to do do but it's a legal option.
  16. No. I wasn't missing the point, I commented about your complaint that it was posted as news in the News forum which was wrong, as you now concede. I made no comment to you about your seeing it as bigotry because I have no interest in your opinion of the article. It says nothing at all about my "critical thinking" [sic]. By the way, this forum and it's teams can publish whatever they like, wherever they like, regardless of their teams' title as it's their own private forum Members are not in any position to pompously decide what is "worthy". Asean Now does not publish it's own news reports, it aggregates articles from other sources and then re-publishes those articles.
  17. Yes, and they want proof that the source is outside Thailand. Thats it No that is not "it" as far as my response to your false comment is concerned, I made no comment about the source of funds. You stated that foreigners cannot buy and own houses in Thailand. They can, they just cannot own the land the house sits on. That is "it".
  18. the item was posted By ASEAN NOW News, No, it was posted in the Thailand General Chat forum, General Topics. It was posted by "Asean Now News" in the General forum, not in the News forum.
  19. It is not at all generally permitted. Regardless of the "difficulty" of the process that you claim, it is allowed under Thai law. That's what I said, you said it wasn't possible, you were wrong.
  20. Perhaps. It reminds me of when I went to the condo management office a few days ago. It was after hours and there was only the one guy manning the office... alone... with his mask on.... Perhaps he was anticipating the chance that someone would come into the office (just as you did).
  21. Obviously he meant a "trial system". I'm sure most here figured that out. Obviously, I knew that (see the "sic"?), I'm sure most here figured that out. Maybe you should try to figure out the significance of "sic".
  22. With a 60% shadow economy, it's very hard to argue something else. Did anyone EVER had questions asked when importing money into Thailand? Ever? Yes, there are Bank Of Thailand regulations stating at that at certain levels enquiries must be made by the customers' Thai bank as to the source of the received funds. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that there are no regulations!
  23. To use your own expression, pure BS! You're ignoring the fact that foreigners can buy and own houses but not the land that they stand on. It may not be a good idea but it is permitted.
