  1. mssabai, you booked the trip through a travel agent here on the island? You should let him or her know about the crazed driver. And be sure to let the agent know that you are a long-term resident, not a tourist and that if this continues you will not be booking with their agency anymore.

long term resident? then stay here legally. I havent done a visa run in 11 years. no workpermit? no visa? no rights. that is the heart of your problem

visa runs are legal. i stay here legally and do them every 3 months. if i didn't then i'd be here illegally.

  2. I would like to increase my income a little bit and seeing how work is limited for farangs I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for online type employment.

I don't trust advertisements that claim you can make millions from your computer. I would like to stay clear of the scams if at all possible.

I hoping on a word of mouth type thing here. Anyone???

  3. I loved the book. It did read a bit like a text book, but it was full of facts.

Yes, well Achaan Phasuk is indeed an academic and her books are most commonly read by other academics, graduate students in Southeast Asian area studies, professional bureaucrats, and foreign service professionals. They are not commonly seen being read on the beach in Pattaya or Phuket. They are indeed used as text books at places like Cornell and Monash. The book in question as little, if anything, to do with Cambodia.

i didn't mind it reading like a text book as i studied criminal justice at uni. the book made perfect sense to me. sometimes i prefer a good academic read. this book was really good.

  4. Anyway, what's your thoughts on this book from those who have read it?

I loved the book. It did read a bit like a text book, but it was full of facts. I loved how they go into how fishing boats line their hulls with some kind of rubber bladder and smuggle oil into the country. There is a huge percentage of boats doing it. All to avoid tax.

I also found the illegal lottery to be extremely interesting. Their operations are so well planned out

and of course to Casinos in Bangkok are something to marvel.

I highly recommend this book people with an interested in illegal economies.

  5. bkkblueeyes, i don't know if you can get it in thailand or not but i use to use Ambien. back then i needed a prescription. in fact i was a bit addicted to it for a while because it worked so well. it will knock you out. now i'm chemical free.

  6. For goodness sake dude find the money somehow a purchase an aircon, as soon as possible. We are talking maybe a BTU9000 for a small room, around Bt15 to 185000, shop around at your local Tesco Lotus, Marko, Big C, etc, you could even find a better deal. Good luck, go for it. A small price to pay for your little one.

i live in a house that is not completely closed. the electric is shared by everyone on the block, and the land lady won't allow it. I am going to borrow a portable one from a friend soon and try to conceal the hose that goes outside.

  7. i was ambidextrous when i was young. during the writing exercises i would cheat the system by switching hands when one got tired. the teachers caught on and made me use my right hand only. now i can't write very well with my left hand. i'm pretty upset about it. i wish i still had that ability.
