Letitia James Under Pressure to Show Why She Rejected Trump Bond Published Apr 17, 2024 at 12:07 PM EDT New York Attorney General Letitia James will have to explain why her challenge to Donald Trump's $175 million bond was not taken "unnecessarily and for vexation," a judge has ruled. Judge Arthur Engoron set an April 22 hearing after Trump's legal team filed a large amount of paperwork on Monday to prove that Knight Specialty Insurance Company (KSIC) was legally permitted to post the bond for Trump. If Trump wins the case on April 22, James will have to pay the costs of the former president reapplying to the court with new bond paperwork. https://www.newsweek.com/letitia-james-under-pressure-rejected-donald-trump-bond-1891350

Company defends Trump’s $175 million bond in new filing After the New York attorney general raised concerns, the bond company said cash from the former president backed the deal April 16, 2024 at 4:35 p.m. EDT via Washington Post Representatives for the firm that posted a $175 million bond for Donald Trump pushed back against objections raised by New York’s attorney general, saying in a court filing late Monday that the deal is “adequately secured” by the former president’s cash. The filing sets the stage for a court hearing next week in Trump’s New York civil fraud case, where Justice Arthur Engoron will decide whether the bond has met state requirements — allowing Trump to appeal a massive civil judgment and preventing state authorities from seizing his properties in the meantime. The filing also argues that Knight is properly licensed, including a statement from New York’s former superintendent of insurance, Gregory V. Serio, that Knight is qualified to do business in the state. https://archive.is/wQoSh#selection-685.0-735.371

Melania Trump Avoids the Courtroom, but Is Said to Share Her Husband’s Anger Melania Trump has long referred to the hush-money case involving Stormy Daniels as her husband’s problem, not hers. But she has privately called the trial a “disgrace” that could threaten his campaign. via NYTimes April 16, 2024 Updated 12:55 p.m. ET As a criminal trial against Mr. Trump opened on Monday, on charges that he had falsified records to cover up that sex scandal involving Stormy Daniels, Mrs. Trump did not appear. But Mrs. Trump, the former first lady, shares his view that the trial itself is unfair, according to several people familiar with her thinking. In private, she has called the proceedings “a disgrace” tantamount to election interference, according to a person with direct knowledge of her comments who could not speak publicly out of fear of jeopardizing a personal relationship with the Trumps. https://archive.is/oeMNx#selection-529.0-533.201

Only 1 in 3 US adults think Trump acted illegally in New York hush money case, AP-NORC poll shows Updated 11:02 AM GMT+7, April 16, 2024 WASHINGTON (AP) — The first criminal trial facing former President Donald Trump is also the one in which Americans are least convinced he committed a crime, a new AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll finds. Only about one-third of U.S. adults say Trump did something illegal in the hush money case for which jury selection began Monday, while close to half think he did something illegal in the other three criminal cases pending against him. And they’re fairly skeptical that Trump is getting a fair shake from the prosecutors in the case — or that the judge and jurors can be impartial in cases involving him. https://apnews.com/article/trump-trial-indictment-hush-money-poll-b3d9a555993faf22e6ebfaf798bfbd2b

NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Can Trump appeal? Yes, if he is convicted, Mr. Trump will appeal, a process that could take months or longer. Mr. Trump could first take the case to the Appellate Division in Manhattan, and, ultimately seek review from the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals in Albany. In other words, any appeal is unlikely to be resolved before Election Day and he would most likely remain free at least until it is resolved. https://www.nytimes.com/article/donald-trump-trial-what-to-know.html -
Knee Arthroscopy for meniscus tear
jerrymahoney replied to scubascuba3's topic in Health and Medicine
One day during swimming my knee popped. Doctor in Florida did MRI and then there was arthroscopic surgery meniscus repair about 2001. Doctor said: In about 5 years you will have a problem with this knee. BTW doctor did a diagnostic procedure (there is a name for it I forget) where she put one of her forearms above the knee in front and one forearm below the knee in back and pushed. I almost hit the ceiling with pain. 5 years later almost to the day I could no longer walk. Full ALS repair at Khon Kaen Ram in 2007. No problems since as long as I don't twist the knee with temporary pain. -
Before beginning the arduous process of choosing a jury for the landmark trial — on allegations that Mr. Trump falsified documents to cover up a sex scandal involving a porn star — the judge overseeing the case once again declined to step aside, rejecting Mr. Trump’s latest effort to oust him. But there was also a ruling that favored the former president: The judge, Juan M. Merchan, rejected a request by prosecutors to introduce accusations of sexual assault that women lodged against Mr. Trump years ago, calling them “rumors” and “complete gossip.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/04/15/nyregion/trump-hush-money-trial

In Martin v. Hunter's Lessee, 14 U.S. 304 (1816), and Cohens v. Virginia, 19 U.S. 264 (1821), the Supreme Court held that the Supremacy Clause and the judicial power granted in Article III give the Supreme Court the ultimate power to review state court decisions involving issues arising under the Constitution and laws of the United States. Therefore, the Supreme Court has the final say in matters involving federal law, including constitutional interpretation, and can overrule decisions by state courts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supremacy_Clause -
65K Monthly Method for Retirement Visa

So from the above linked doc it says: 6. A letter of guarantee from the local or overseas Embassy or Consulate that proving the monthly pension of the Applicant not less than Baht 65,000 per month (together with reference documents showing the source of monthly pension) Since many country embassies will not provide any such letter, maybe they just now settle for the 'together with' part. -
I don't know what you are going on about. I only posted that Politico misdemeanor story to suggest that is what maybe irked Blanche into saying 'We Can Win'.
-
Oh. Maybe they never thought of that.
-
I will guess that remark was made in the context of some suggesting Trump should go for the misdemeanor: Then there’s another, less explored route that Trump’s team could try: asking the judge to give the jury the option of convicting him on lesser, misdemeanor offenses instead of the felony counts that have actually been brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his team of prosecutors. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/04/11/trump-alvin-bragg-trial-win-00151558

Thanks for straightening the NY Times out. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

No -- but he's prime time. But while I'm here: Though the crime of falsifying business records is nominally a misdemeanor, the Manhattan district attorney’s office almost always charges it as a felony. ... The Times could identify only two other felony cases in Manhattan over the past decade in which defendants were indicted on charges of falsifying business records but no other crime. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/09/magazine/alvin-bragg-donald-trump-trial.html

April 14, 2024 The jurors will be assessing Mr. Cohen, too. If even one does not believe his testimony, the trial could end with a hung jury, a clear victory for the former president. Todd Blanche, the lawyer leading the case, has told Mr. Trump in recent weeks that he can win the trial, people with knowledge of the discussion said. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/14/nyregion/trump-trial-manhattan.html

65K Monthly Method for Retirement Visa
jerrymahoney replied to SportRider's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
All I will say is that, if some IO's at some IMM offices do not require as current a "proof of income" letter, that does not mean they will not require one NEXT year. -
