I agree. Same for the Yanks. Hundreds of posts about Social Security, IRA and superannuation (or were these the Kiwis or Canadians?) People should discuss their home country tax laws in separate threads, that would make the Thai tax threads a lot more readable). Otherwise I feel tempted to discuss in detail the taxation of my political donations in Mongolia.

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
Lorry replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I answered this several days ago, you chose to ignore my answer. I don't know what you get out of spreading this misinformation. But you should try another forum (pornhub, maybe?) - here everybody knows the government announcements. -

My Blood Pressure Numbers are always Normal - I'm Confused .
Lorry replied to Bill Poster's topic in Health and Medicine
Patients with some experience of higher and lower blood pressure may be able to feel the difference, but it's not a reliable indicator, and completely indolent macho types ("I am never sick") may not be able to feel anything. Example: patient used to have BP 155/88, over months lowered to 130/80. Main effect: much easier to sleep, sleeps 8 hours instead of 5. Easier to relax, doesn't feel that driven. Any pressure between 120-140, feels nothing. Over 140, feels driven more than the situation warrants, cannot rest. Under 120, eazily dizzy. Under 110, dizzy. The patient may get used to lower pressures, so that he doesn't feel dizzy at 115 any more. And he may feel very uncomfortable at 155 (which formerly he didn't feel at all). Some A-types may feel very uncomfortable if they relax. They and there body have never done this for decades. -

Human arteries are very flexible, elastic. The heart doesn't need a lot of pressure to pump blood through them. BP is normally low. If you are under stress, eg running away from a lion or lying to the police about the corpse they just found under your bed, your BP will rise a lot. Because muscles and brain will need more blood than at rest, your heart will pump faster and more forcefully. After stress (the lion ate someone else, the police found another suspect), BP will go down. But if there is chronic stress (unlike the lion, police come back, for years, no end in sight) you and your BP won't relax. You will eat some chocolate to relax, full of fat, sugar and other toxins that harden your arteries - which are under stress from the permanently high BP already. After 20 or 30 years, your arteries have become hard and inflexible, calcified and narrow. Your heart always has to pump forcefully, you always have high BP, it will get tired and give up (meaning you die). The arteries get clogged more and more, if those in the brain get completely obstructed, that's a stroke. If those arteries that provide oxygen to the heart muscle itself are obstructed, that's a heart attack. Athletes only run away from lions, no permanent stress, they, their heart and their arteries, always relax again. And they don't live on chocolate and pizza clogging the arteries. Their BP at rest is low. Nothing wrong with low BP. (don't show this to a medical professional and make me lose face. I have written this especially for you. It's a very simplified version of what could be a tome of 500 pages) -
One more embassy with made-up requirements: Delhi. KL wants a long-term rental (which the target group normally won't have). Delhi is not clear about what kind of accommodation. People who posted "the Indians are coming!" may be happy.

You couldn't have said it better. "the right visa" ... this extremely flexible expression has been used so often, by immigration and here I hope it will not be used again. One member posted already "you cannot be a dignom, you are too old". I know MFA says age doesn't matter, but will immigration know this?
-
True. On the other hand, we hear already that some consulates are making up their own rules: - cooking classes at least 3 months (posted on AN) - need rental agreement in Thailand (website embassy KL) - must have employment in the country of visa application (KL, Germany) These are subordinates of MFA! That was to be expected, Immigration may be the same. Immigration is not bound by the views of MFA
-
Immigration's standpoint is that a visa is valid as long as the requirements are still fulfilled, during the whole period of the visa (posted yesterday, I think in the other DTV thread). If you have a METV, your second entry still has to be as a tourist. If you have a DTV, your second entry still has to be as a dignom/boxer/cook. Nothing prevents them from checking. (On the contrary, they DO check if people on a METV are real tourists.) If they flag a DTV holder at re-entry and all he can show is a single appointment for a tooth cleaning 6 months ago, which he canceled anyway...good luck! We really don't know what Immigration is going to do.

At the time @george posted this I asked this question. I never saw a response. But @georgeis not known for posting BS. The five-year visa without the hassle of yearly extensions (where you never know whether you will get it) sounds tempting. Leaving every 180 days is no problem for me, I do this anyway. Right now the DTV seems easy to get. I don't think it will stay like this and one should get it soon. But on the other hand I expect problems with extensions or reentries. It's a gamble.

This has been discussed a long time ago, when the TRD published the first set of FAQ . People noticed that the TRD explained all kind of constellations and combinations of times being a tax resident, earning income and remitting income. They explicitly said what would be tax-free. There was a glaring omission: earning money in a year you are tax resident, remitting it in a year you were not a tax resident. Never mentioned as tax- free, never mentioned at all. It was suspicious.

I agree. There is a big difference between denying entry to a visa-exempt arrival and denying entry to a holder of a valid visa. But it has happened before iirc. As for days outside of Thailand (after 180 days), the MFA official from Chris Parker's latest video stated "1 day". I don't know where he got that from, I doubt this is written anywhere, and I doubt whether immigration is bound to follow this rule. Last not least, @georgehas posted repeatedly that you can get this visa only once (why?) So if you are retired and live mostly in Thailand, what are you going to do 5 years from now?
-
This is the only new point in Chris Parker's latest video. The MFA official said, requirements for extension would probably be the same as when applying for the visa. He was honest enough to say that he can only guess. It's not in the realm of MFA, it's immigration who will decide these requirements for extension.

This is the third time within 24 hours I see this video posted on AN. I have actually read the regulations about the DTV. I also went through the relevant threads and read this guy's facebook post, that was quite useful. Thanks for the poster who at the time posted the link. Here, the same information again, for people who are not able or willing to read, audible, 3 times .... for vloggers, muay thai warriors and cooks.

I have never completely unmasked. I always have used a mask: in a taxi (extremely confined space - BTW most taxi drivers in Bangkok have always worn a mask, too) in a lift (same reason) in a hospital (see Simon's post) Usually also in the BTS and 7/11, especially if crowded Often in BigC
