  1. "These simple alms we do not find among the worldly. For their giving is of such a character, that the right hand gives but the left hand takes...yes, given in such a way that one takes ten times as much in place of what he gives...." “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21 NIV.
  2. So, as I say... Just more useless advertising. At least, it's genuine Gucci, as you can see from the styling. If they paid me Bt.90,000.00 per month to wear it at night, I would.
  3. I, too, have been impressed with this monumental film that you allude to, and I never tire in the viewing. There are, no doubt, many lessons to be learned. You may call me an anachronism, if you will, however my view is that the extreme brand consciousness of today, as well as the chasing after prestige products that this engenders, causes most people to become anything BUT relaxed and happy. You say that your feet are old and tired, but are they old enough that you can recall a better time, a time before our world became a landscape of logos? Or, have you forgotten? Do we really benefit from the further divisions to society that luxury brands depend upon to sell their goods? Are you, at least, old enough to clearly recall the world when we were expected to dress for dinner? How sweet it was! I, for one, miss the days of Lord Darlington...
  4. I LOVE Chanting. Don't you? Especially when the chanting is AMPLIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, what I REALLY Like is..., GREAT CHANTING, and, That is about the ONLY Kind of Chanting I really prefer. What about you? In addition to the chanting, what other advantages do you enjoy by living next to a TEMPLE! I have been listening to Gregorian Chants for decades. I can really get into the good stuff. I just wish they could add a few more LOUDspeakers at my temple, because... THAT is what's really needed around here. Spacing out, and, As Usual, Gamma This is an OLDIE but a GOODIE, I guess. Normally, I don't ever listen to the old stuff, but, for historical purposes, I found this interesting.
  5. My only concern are the recent posts from My Good Friend Bard which seem to increasingly be gumming up the works.
  6. Did you attend Mount Holyoke? Maybe you met my cousin. She loved it.
  7. Not when one is dressing for a night out on the town with the townies. You have a good eye for Brooks Brothers threads, it seems.
  8. Did you see my plagiarized poem from Scotland? I added it to the TV forum just for you. What more can I do to help?
  9. That's because I try to remain anonymous, without being too annoying.
  10. Plagiarism is not a trait In the heritable sense of the word. Shortness is a trait. Especially when talking about beans, and Mendel.
  11. Ugly is, as Ugly does. Have a box of chocolates, and... Stay calm. Carry on...
  12. But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane, In proving foresight may be vain; The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men Gang aft agley, An’lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain, For promis’d joy! Still thou art blest, compar’d wi’ me The present only toucheth thee: But, Och! I backward cast my e’e. On prospects drear! An’ forward, tho’ I canna see, I guess an’ fear!
  13. Which is higher quality, though: Polo Ralph Lauren? Lacoste? Crocodile? The Polo Guy makes me want to hit him with a mallet. Or....Vomit I once wore that pony shirt in Naples, Florida and broke out with Prickly Heat for a week. Or was it Prickly Pear...?
  14. I believe this is NOT true of lithium ion batteies. I keep my NOTE4 charging 95 percent of the time. No problem. You may be thinking of the older nickel metal hydride batteries. Also, don't buy a phone that does not have user replaceable batteries. Soon, the EU will require all phones to have user replaceable batteries, just like my NOTE4. Don't buy before then, maybe 2 more years.
  15. So it's friday and he's hitting the vodka, is he? This must mean that he has taken a break from his usual nightly case of Old Frothingslosh. Our Old Boy Bob must be feeling flush again...
  16. Times seem to have changed at Vassar College since I was last there..
  17. Not exactly the understated elegance I was speaking of, is she. She must be one of those Vasser girls we've heard so much about over the years.
  18. Guys… Here is the look I like. You guys should dress like me, If you don’t already… It’s been years since I needed to dress for business meetings, and I am thankful for that, for sure. So these days, I dress as I have during the past decade or so. And I just dress the way I want to. I like to look casual, but I don’t like it when people mistakenly think that I am dressing casually intentionally. I don’t want anyone to think that I am trying to make a fashion statement. And this is why I NEVER buy anything with a logo, such as the one with the horse and mallet that you sometimes see on the breast of some shirts. Let me show you what I mean, and then you can tell me if you dress as I. When I don’t want to look too buttoned down… Or sometimes I just want to wear a tie but I don’t want to do any ironing. And so I go with a non-iron Pinpoint Oxford, which is normally my go to shirt…most days. (The tie is a bit loud, almost garish, you might say.) I especially like this number, and this sweater has some embroidered shields or crests on it, too. I rarely have a chance to wear sweaters here in Chiang Mai, though, these past few years. Although, I recall that back in 2014 we had about a month of frigid weather when I wore my sweaters, and even a coat. Speaking of the Cold Season, I often sport a blazer or sport coat. Nothing too snooty for Chiang Mai, though. But I rarely wear a tie because I find ties just too restricting for lounging around. Shoes? I don’t wear sandals, if that’s what you’re thinking. I like real leather, and leather that smells like leather. These shoes have ME written all over them… Look at those TASSELS! So, enough about me and what I wear. I just want to know, When you don’t want to dress for a business meeting, Or if you might already be retired, And you want to dress comfortably in an elegant yet understated way… What are your clothing choices for Thailand? As I told you before, repeatedly, I just don’t go in for any free advertising stuck to my person, and, also..You won’t find even one tattoo on me, no matter where you look. Hoping to hear from you soon, As usual, Best regards, Gamma Note: I imagine that some of you might not go for the Preppy Look, too much. But I really BET you wouldn’t mind a few Preppy girls, just the same. Those girls dress just like me, but in a feminine way, if you know what I mean.
  19. Well, I do not object to ads for Durex or Pornhub... Because THEN... You are making a fashion statement, as well as a lifestyle statement... About yourself. Therefore, I completely agree with your sartorial choices.
  20. You should really NOT care how ugly it is. You do not need to care how big it is, in most cases. There are TWO things you need to care about: a. Noise Please check the noise lever in dB (decibel), and no need to worry about dB(A or C). You can do this by checking the model number, and then searching the internet. b. Efficiency (This is probably most important to you.) Efficiency is often rated as EER, and sometimes SEER. You should choose a model that is rated above 22, ie an EER rating of above 22. You can calculate the EER yourself if you just divide the BTU by Watts. The more heat exhausted from your condo..per watt...the higher the efficiency of the unit. You can also calculate efficiency in calories per watt, if you want..but the efficiency is the same. If you want a graphic how to do this... SEER is baloney, for me, because I run the ACs 24/7/365. So, just calculate your EER, and then you know. Energy costs are rising... Efficiency is also good for the planet.
