  1. Obviously, microwave radiation will not toast a piece of bread. If you put bread in a microwave, you know what happens. It will shrink and become hard as a rock. (Sounds like I might be talking about something else, but I am not. I am talking about what microwaving does to bread. It will not toast bread as might a convection oven, a radiant oven, or a conventional toaster.)
  2. There is something in our makeup that demands access to these things, such as the natural starry night, and a clear mountain brook with trees and bees, autumn leaves without the sound of jet aircraft buzzing overhead. All this is gone, in most places where humans live. No doubt, the impact of this separation between man and natural environment has already been deeply felt, and the impact immense.
  3. Isn't this just one more thing to clean? Also, better to buy an electric skillet...but....I have NOT seen electric skillets of the type consumers love in the USA....at least not yet.....on Lazada, or in the retailers, ....in Thailand. I think the local consumers just do not understand the concept. If I could find one of these for sale in Thailand...I would buy TWO immediately.... But, they do not sell them. This is far better than any microwave more making a lot of good sandwiches, and many other fried foods. Nothing can beat it. And, the cost is very low, or should be...
  4. There were no 7-Elevens in Greenwich when I was young. There were no Sevens on Long Island when I was young. The sandwitches I prefer can only be had in.... Places like this: There are a few great delis on The Main Line, someplace in Merion Township, for example. But, you are correct that... By comparison the Seven sandwitches sold in the USA in the USA, decades ago, were GARBAGE by comparison to a top-notch sandwitch. There is just no comparison. Still the Seven Sandwitches of decades ago were better than what they were selling in Taiwan, after President bought them out. I would not eat what they are selling these days. However, consumers today have much lower expectations....OBVIOUSLY...jut looking at the Glop on sale. BUT, if you REALLY want good Deli Food, then stick to places like Bala Cynwyd, PA, or similar.... https://hymies.com/ I recall Hymie's Deli from often going there 65-years ago. The food is good. The sandwiches are GREAT. When will Asian Sevens learn that THIS is the taste and QUALITY that we demand...before we buy sandwitches from 7....again.
  5. Correct. Tripe. But, still, a combo it is. One can choose from a wide variety, and one need not select tripe. This is MaLaHuoGuo....a very spicy hot pot which is very popular in these parts.
  6. This dude is always worth a listen. Might be a bit dry for some, though. Another take on DeepSeek, and more interesting than some.... He is out of the UK, and not China....
  7. Black Hawk Down. Seems like one of the pilots wasn't looking. Maybe not enough night-flight training. Good visibility. Maybe one of the pilots was focusing on instruments when the focus should have been outside the cockpit.
  8. Doubtful much is known here about decent Asian culinary "combo" delights. There are just too many, but most of you have never tried even a few. Just do not tell me that this is not Thai food, or eaten by Thai people. And, this is a combo...FOR SURE:
  9. Astronomy is a lonely business. Most astronomers have very few friends (true friends). One must just suck it up...because.... It goes with the territory. Galileo Galilei, another alum of mine, was nearly put to death, and for nothing more than peering at the Night Sky.
  10. Yes. I mentioned the problem of atmospheric water vapor in reply to the member who suggested I row far out in a leaking boat, far out into the Andaman Sea, in order to see the stars.
  11. Due to problems with atmospheric water vapor, the Gobi is preferred, IMHO, for star viewing, compared to viewing the firmament from any boat in the Andaman Sea. Also, one might encounter pirates on the oceans, whereas this rarely happens when one is aboard the ship of the desert.
  12. This is the best, serious, solution. Pack in cardboard cartons. Tape up well, and bind well with twine. Then, take to bus depot and place in the lower luggage compartment, after buying ticket for someone who wishes a free trip. Or, just pay the bus company to haul the boxes to the correct destination. Very cheap. No loss. No damage.
  13. Can any new UK law be made retroactive? The UK is now in a very sorry state, some say. The UK is now just about totally unrecognizable to someone my age. Didn't you guys see this coming? If you did, then why did you let this happen???? Just wondering.
  14. Must have been a sawed-off shotgun which are illegal in the USA. Also, best to keep the safety ON, when not prepared to shoot something. Was this shotgun loaded with Bird Shot?
  15. Such a pity. And, now, who is the bull in the china shop?
  16. Thanks. Finally learned something worth knowing here. Thank you.
  17. One seldom hears such a royal roasting of one US president for the previous US president, just booted out of office. This address by Trump is a one-of-a-kind Royal Roasting for the old man, Biden. Every other minute of his speach, Trump refers to Biden as a complete and utter fool, in so many good ways. Seldom is heard, such encouraging words? True? False? Just wondering.... Trump, as his nature, never suffers fools lightly. Go Trump Go? Why not.... When Biden left the WH, the smell of the nursing home left with him? Seems so. Right? A breath of fresh air? No? At the very least, the worm has turned..... And, who was the worm, in this case? Just wondering.
  18. Sure, but your comment is missing one crucial piece of data: If we could see Andromeda where it is now... Then... What might be its luminosity? Only then might we know what a sight it would be.
  19. So then... Where is Negroponte when we need him most?
  20. You neglected to mention you were using solar panels. Now, your Bt.300 per month makes more sense. And, very logical.
  21. These panels, as you suggest, would have excellent heat insulating properties.... However, for sound-insulation, something of higher density seems more logical, such as 3/4-inch plywood. Just my guess. As you say, these panels would be easier to apply than installing a plywood covering...maybe. Something to consider, these panels, for energy savings on windows for a room, when one cares not about seeing outside...as happens to be my case, at the moment. Maybe use both plywood and the panels....if they are designed to be used on the outside of an exterior surface.
  22. Do you "borrow" electric power from your neighbor's line, or something? Or, do you not use a water heater or a kettle for tea? Maybe you use a human-powered generator to keep your fridge going?
