  1. Not surprised, most people I knew who were addicted to cannabis ended up with mental illnesses, hard to quit the drug once you're hooked for some. Most end up suffering from some type of depression, the rollercoaster highs and lows will do that to you.
  2. I remember asking about opening an account at Citibank to keep my funds but was told UOB has taken over their commercial banking business in Thailand. I was wondering if you can still get credit cards from Citibank? Seems like all the places I go to offer a 10% discount for Citibank credit cards, so it peaked my interest in possibly obtaining one, it seems more efficient as well to use a Thai credit card. Even if the limit was nothing more than $500-$1000USD, it'd be easier to constantly pay off and use than using a Canadian credit card, a 10% discount is pretty ridiculous to turn down.
  3. really huh? so I can't just do a tourist extension application say my plane ticket got delayed and then have them reject it and get 7 days? I can always just reschedule the flight but the flight I have is so cheap and it's actually a really good flight (usually cost is like $1000-$1500 and I got it for $600) so I figured it'd cost more to reschedule the flight than to do an extension and get rejected. I actually kind of want a thai elite visa in the future as long as my medical treatment goes well on my trip back home, most likely will live in Thailand the rest of my life and unfortunately as a 20 year old theres no retirement visa, so I may just play by the book.
  4. I meant fraud as in financial statements from Chinese EV companies. Thats interesting, not much more expensive in Thailand at 3M baht, but that was 2020, I think model 3's in USA nearly doubled in price since then. only $35k in 2019 but $55k now in USA I never knew some people could be so miserable ????
  5. Could I go to immigrations to ask for a 2 day extension if my flight got delayed 2 days after my visa expires? I remember reading some people can get a 7 day "you must leave after" stamp, also curious how this impacts future visits?
  6. The main reason people bought from Tesla while they were new was because it was the only EV available, now they've taken a considerable lead in terms of technology/specifications, their EV's are the best EV's on the planet right now. They're also "promising" FSD which is probably another reason people buy Tesla's over other EV's. That is a big issue with unprofitability in these Chinese EV's, it makes me a bit skeptical if they'll be around in a few years, especially xpeng and li auto (although li auto is not a BEV), I listened to the last earnings report thinking about investing in a chinese ev company but it sounded quite bad, declining sale forecasts, margins getting squeezed, having to do sales to get rid of inventory, sounds like Tesla is taking market share by storm, their chinese factory now has minimum wait times of 1 week for delivery. Nio was the only one that forecasted revenue growth, but they have their own issues. On top of that there is the whole issue with possible fraud, it was quite odd how some chinese EV companies were raising cash with stock offerings when their balance sheets said they had plenty of cash. The US is trying to get regulators to go to China and audit their financial statements to make sure everything is legit. Me personally I'd go with the safer option and get a Tesla or Toyota if I had to, everyone I know who owns an EV has a Tesla (family/friends). Not sure what the prices for EV's are in Thailand, but in terms of Tesla's prices, they comparable or even cheaper than these Chinese EV companies, I see no reason to pay the same or more for an inferior product, and the EV's which are considerably cheaper than say a Tesla Model 3 seem to be inferior, so you'd be paying less but getting less, which could be okay if you needed an EV and didn't have the budget for a Tesla model 3.
  7. Actually it provides you less options for changing the product. a gift receipt only allows you to either exchange the product or get a gift card in exchange for the return, while a regular receipt allows you a full refund to the payment method you used it’s typically only used when giving a gift incase the item doesn’t fit the person I.e shoes being too big/small
  8. Interesting, maybe it's a North American thing, It's essentially a receipt you give with the gift so the person receiving can exchange or get a gift card if they don't like the gift or if it doesn't fit them
  9. I personally never gave gift cards, I prefer to give a gift that the person would use on a daily basis which could somehow improve their lives in someway. i.e more comfortable shoes, better phone/laptop, electric toothbrush, depends on the person and the occasion. I prefer not to give cash either, it's easily forgotten, when you give a gift that someone uses daily it leaves a longer lasting memory.
  10. Yup, thats another curve ball you have to think about with these EV companies, lots of car companies go bankrupt, i.e Chevrolet, Chrysler, GM, the margins aren't great and theres a lot of risk. One economic downturn and chapter 11's will be filed all over. Right now Chinese EV companies are getting some stress, lower demand and margins are getting squeezed with inflation, I am guessing this is happening to all car companies. They are having to do sales while their gross profits are decreasing from inflation/higher costs so I wouldn't be surprised to see some go bankrupt, even Tesla almost went bankrupt. Once the company is gone I wonder if you'll still be able to get service or parts for your EV. Even Tesla's are having quality control issues but they have a warranty and will fix it, however if the company is gone the warranty is invalid, for obvious reasons. For now the only practical EV company to buy from seems like Tesla or the older car companies like Toyota.
  11. I thought about gift cards at central but I found most things at central department stores to be priced a bit higher than if you went to the stores themselves
  12. yea didn't seem like returns are very great in Thailand, went to jdsports today to get some shoes for my gf's friend, they said you could return the shoes but when I read the receipt it said exchanges only. I asked about gift receipts and they had no clue what I was talking about. Luckily asked for their shoes size but its weird because every shoe fits different even with the same size. I went to an Asus store in central world looking to buy a laptop, horrible return policy, 7 days only and ONLY if the item is faulty, thats probably the worst return policy I've seen with computers.
  13. if only the world worked like this where things just magically appeared
  14. Holiday season coming up, was wondering if Thailand has gift receipts, i.e receipts for people to return gifts for exchange/gift cards? Always weird asking people for their shoe size
  15. The reality will set in eventually for EV owners in Thailand, it's not a matter of if but when. In 2012 when no one had a Tesla, the same could be said about no one having to wait for the few EV chargers that existed in Toronto although you had to drive through traffic and long distances just to get to an EV charger, until people started buying EV's. Even new condos only have a few chargers and people fight about them all the time in the condo group chat. Can't imagine having to deal with that. But for some who never experienced the hassles of owning an EV yet, they think they are myths, unfortunately that doesn't mean they don't exist just because they aren't believed. Imagine if everyone had an EV in the condo, 500 EVs using 2 chargers, sounds practical to me...
  16. Right now in the more popular chinese BEV companies they seem to be doing a pre-order strategy for new releases, not sure if its funding constraints or if they just want to gauge demand before production. I.e Xpeng, Nio, are using that strategy for the G9 and ET5 BYD announced not too long ago that they are building a factory in Thailand, maybe that would help bring EV's to Thailand, another issue is Thailands foreign taxes, I still can't understand how some people are okay with buying a $50,000 car for $100,000-$200,000, I am guessing cars like Tesla's are no different. I personally wouldn't trust any of these new EV car brands other than Tesla, too many issues can arise from a product not being tested with time. Explosions, car issues, defects, etc.
  17. Its hard to not justify buying an EV after you’ve bought it, as you now have a bias. No one likes to admit they made a bad decision. EVs are great and work in some cases in Thailand, but to ignore something as if it doesn’t exist, doesn’t make it go away. Without enough infrastructure there won’t be mass adoption as it isn’t practical. I saw in this thread people were happy to wait hours for a charge, most people wouldn’t though and the tech is already developed, it just needs to be built. 480kw/h chargers exist now. It probably is prevalent now with only a select few owning EVs in Thailand so there’s enough chargers, but in countries where there are large amounts of EV sales they have issues not having enough infrastructure.
  18. This is interesting, I know there was some supply chain issues but actually most recently especially in China supply is outpacing demand to the point that some EV companies are struggling and doing sales to try to get demand. Which EVs are typically bought in Thailand?
  19. wow thats crazy, when I first came to Thailand I lived in lat krabang for a few months
  20. Yes and the topic of Thailand not having enough infrastructure is one main issue of adoption of EV's right now.
  21. why do you want to go earlier? from what I understand from other members here is when you get the under consideration stamp you're guaranteed the extension, you just have to go and get the stamp. I've gotten quite a few extensions and they always gave me the extensions stamp after under consideration stamp, so I don't think you'll have any issues. I always just went on the day they asked me to go on though
  22. I wonder, let's say the law firm just steals the money, how would anyone know? If the person who set up the trust has passed away, no one finds out anyways, no? Just curious how they're held accountable that the money ends up where it's supposed to. I guess if you pass away, you kind of have to just trust everything goes as planned, not like you can do anything once you're gone. To the OP, sorry to hear about your cancer, hopefully you are able to get treated somehow or have some sort of shot at getting rid of it.
  23. I'm in Bangkok so I'd have to venture to travel quite far im guessing, might just find another method, I'm not too well versed on south east asia or travelling, would hate to get in a bad situation. I am guessing worst case scenario would be crossing, not being let in and then being in a different country I had no intention of being in. I was thinking of Vietnam but it doesn't border Thailand, I wouldn't mind being stuck in Vietnam and just staying there I've just been living in Thailand a year, only in Bangkok and never travelled elsewhere in Thailand, I think bangkok is pretty safe but Thailand and surrounding countries are probably not the safest countries in asia. Singapore/Japan/korea/china are probably safer in my opinion. I just remember seeing news report of kidnappings/trafficking or militia/military fighting/shooting at borders. I am guessing border run you'd have to cross over into another country, stay in their country for a while and then cross back? Or is it as easy as going to the border crossing for an hour and then crossing back?
  24. are land border bounces guaranteed/safe? (safe as in not getting kidnapped or robbed) whats the typical land border bounce people do?
