  1. I actually saw some ev infrastructure in Bangkok, but it's still being built, nothing comparable to infrastructure where EV's are going to be reliable. Curious are those superchargers or just regular EV chargers? If you own an EV you're going to have a bad time in Thailand, its just not close to functional yet for the switch. People in Condos always bickering in group chats about how people are not moving their cars for the few EV chargers and how no one can charge their EV's
  2. Being built and having EV infrastructure is 2 different things
  3. No infrastructure for EVs makes it not very useful Niu makes great electric motorbikes.
  4. I liked tattoos before but now so many people have them, I kind of want mine removed. shame, because they’re quite nice tattoos, many of which done by Levi Barnett a very great artist.
  5. Yes…a racist joke is racism, who would have guessed, However the joke/comment said was not racist.
  6. It's not racist, making a joke is normal with co-workers when you're not in a professional setting is normal in my opinion, to each their own.
  7. Every PC laptop is going to come with windows as thats the operating system, whether it come with windows 11 or an older version is not certain but typically laptops get upgraded/sold with the latest operating system. I would recommend Dell over Asus, typically with PC laptops you're looking for a company which has better engineering and higher quality components.
  8. Is everything racist these days? This isn't racist..racism is when you act negatively towards a person because of their race, saying someone has a big nose so you know where they're from is just making conversation. The question is how this was said, but the way you explained it, it didn't sound like it was made in a derogatory manner, it sounded like he was just making a joke. I guess one could say it is a bit unprofessional/inappropriate but it depends on the work environment, what company is it? If co-workers are just talking amongst themselves this is normal conversation, if it was in a meeting or professional setting then it would be of concern.
  9. typically the landlord pays the agent 1 month's rent as his commission. I.e if you're paying 19k for the condo then the landlord will give 19k to the agent for closing the deal, sometimes the agent will give you a discount of some of the commission if you close the deal quick, so you'd get the condo for 18.5k a month.
  10. 100% get a place near the BTS, you're right by all the stores, getting a condo down a soi sucks and makes going out a hassle, some condos have a shuttle but that only runs every hour usually and getting to and back to the condo is a hassle, plus walking in the rain Is no beuno. I usually take grab taxi's anyways but the stores are all at sukhumvit road (the BTS). along pleonchit/asoke/nana theres Hyde 13, noble pleonchit and Ashton asoke, I think Hyde 13 and noble pleonchit both connect to the BTS. Siam paragon is a better date spot than terminal 21 by the way, movie theatre, bowling alley, aquarium, but I found central embassy has nicer restaurants
  11. Seems like it was handled okay, vaccines worked and ended the pandemic. If more people listened and took it more seriously earlier, probably would have been a lot less severe though.
  12. I usually just let the deposit cover any damages (it's usually wear and tear sort of stuff, like a scratch or something on the wall or floor), I usually go into a contract thinking I won't get that 1 month deposit back anyways because sometimes I leave early and its not much to be honest after things like cleaning/ac cleaning, usually the contracts I've seen say the tenant has to pay for ac cleaning before leaving. I figure if I pay to fix something and then they try keeping the deposit I'm paying twice. The landlords have been pretty cool though in my experience. The condos in Bangkok have been pretty low quality too in my opinion so it's kind of bound for stuff to break, I was in a brand new condo in Pleonchit a year ago in a nice area, won't name it because of Thailand being notorious for defamation but the condo was so poorly built, water leaked sometimes in the windows (numerous units said this in the group chat), the flooring cracked, walls cracked (in the corners), etc. condo is a few years old. There were a few instances that I have seen some really shady landlords, I didn't eventually renting from them. The good old show you one condo online and when you view it they show you another which is inferior is always annoying, I never end up renting from those agents. I usually do a walk around video recording of the unit when I move in and move out, I have never experienced a landlord claiming I damaged something I didn't in Thailand but enough stories about that stuff online for me to do it cause it takes a few minutes.
  13. I’ve never had to pay any maintenance or service charge fees, only bills I pay is water and electric and the landlord takes care of the rest. I remember I saw a bill for 30k baht in the app for the condo and turns out it was an annual fee the landlord had to pay. Kind of made me wonder how much money they make on these rentals, I was renting for a really good price. Probably enough to cover mortgage and a bit more
  14. There were elderly patients when I went and they told me when I was older I could get both near and far vision corrected. They told me they correct one eye for far vision and one for near vision, or something like that. They did have some option for those to have lenses inserted but said I didn’t need it because lasik was fine for my vision, my vision was horrible and luckily they told me that technology enhanced over the years and I probably couldn’t get lasik years ago. My vision was like -8 or -9
  15. Not saying this is the rule but I remember someone doing a covid extension while I was there and then he got called up and said he was on overstay and had to pay a fine. He paid the fine and got the extension, not sure if it will work in your case or not.
  16. First go to property hub and look at the prices/units to get a feel of the prices, usually you can end up renting a room for whatever the lowest price for the same room is listed at on property hub (same unit style and sq/m) Second go to a few condos and in each condo go see a few units, some units can be drastically different than the others, I would look around the unit for cleanliness, test the ac/water/toilet, look at the quality of appliances/furniture, usually in my experience the quality of the appliances/furniture kind of gives you an idea of if the landlord is a cheapo or not. Check for any bugs or cockroaches, weird smelling rooms etc. If you know how, you can check the ac to see if it's been clean, is clean, or dirty, it's pretty easy to pop off the cover. Usually this is supposed to be cleaned before you move in but many landlords don't. In my experience landlords have been cheapo's, cut corners, etc. I haven't had any that were deliberately trying to scam me but they have done some shady things. Like not hiring a cleaner/cleaning the AC and saying they did. I guess they just really don't want to spend that 1000-2000 baht, seems kind of silly to me but whatever. Pretty easy to see if you know how to check the ac and just look under the bed/couch if they had a cleaner. Whenever I had issues the landlord has always resolved the issue quickly. In my experience I always payed the 3 month deposit (first/last + 1 extra month), typically they keep the 1 month deposit until the end and have the first/last paid for in the rent. The contracts seems to favour the landlord in a lot of cases, I always make sure that the landlord is going to replace any appliances that break and are not allowed to enter my room under any circumstances either. Agent fees the landlord pays so you shouldn't worry about that. Should call and make sure that the internet service providers have fiber internet in your condo, some condos don't have the infrastructure for it. Also it's nice to get a room facing the east side or in the shade because it's not as hot. Also make sure the landlord you're meeting is indeed the owner of the condo, you can ask for their ownership/ID card/ask juristic with them. I had some shady encounters with people trying to rent me a condo saying the landlord is overseas and I had to send the rent money to them instead of the landlord, I always make sure I'm sending the rent money directly to the landlord. Probably should also make sure you're paying the electric bill straight to the government and not the landlord, not much else in my opinion that you have to look out for but might have missed something.
  17. I haven't done it in Bangkok but in Canada where I am from, Lasik has 2 types, blade and bladeless, you can look into the differences/pros/cons of both. I choose the bladeless version and I think I made the right choice, hard to say since I can't compare what my vision would be like with the blade version but I have 0 issues, 20/20 vision, no bluring/night hazing, no dry eyes, nothing. The process a few days, first you go and get your eyes/vision checked, then they do it again on the day of your surgery, takes about 30 minutes with 10-15 minutes of the actual procedure, first you get numbing eye drops, after those kick in you go into the room and you lay down, they put some device to hold your eye open, it feels "uncomfortable" but not painful, like something pushing against your eyeball, they tell you to look at a light thats blinking, first use one laser (or blade) to cut your eye open, then another laser will correct your eyesight, then they put the flap they cut open from your eye back and do the next one. I will say, one thing that was odd is having really bad vision, it was a bit of a curve ball when they told me to look at the blinking light which positions your eye for the laser to cut your eye. I could barely see it having horrible vision and was worried something would go wrong. After they do both eyes they give you some numbing eye drops and I think some other eyedrops possibly anti bacterial, these are essential because my eyes starting burning like crazy after and using the eye drops helped tremendously, this lasted for about half a day. Also your eyes are going to be blurry for about a day, you won't be able to see much, as if you were not wearing glasses, so thats going to suck and you need to wear sunglasses with UV protection which they usually give you, I'd just stay inside with the blinds closed if I were you for a day and try to not go out for a few days. I can't remember how many days it took for me to get my eye sight, might have been a day, but I went back after for a follow up and they checked my eyes to make sure everything was good. You should ask if your hospital will give you lifetime warranty on your eyes, mine did which gives me a peace of mind incase my eyesight gets worse after lasik, they said they'll do it again for free. I think I was supposed to go back after a year and get checkups yearly but having been in Thailand for over a year I haven't gone back. Hope it goes well, was probably the best money I've ever spent.
  18. must be significant, was on some global financial news feeds this morning
  19. So you have changed the account password and still are getting money withdrawn from your account? Does the app have a log where you can see all logins? Most apps have that now where you can see all the IP's that log into your account and are currently logged in with the ability to disconnect them, although usually bank apps (at least in my country) disconnect people from the app and require a re-login after a certain time period.
  20. how’s the quality of the supplements from Lazada though? Supplements are not fda regulated because it’s not considered a food or drug so really companies can put literally anything inside the supplement and sell it. Not just small companies, there was a huge scandal with protein powders and nitrogen spiking where companies (big ones, I.e musclepharm) put in cheaper ingredients (vs whey protein) to cause false positives when testing for their protein content to increase profit margins. Not only do you run the risk of getting “fake” or useless supplements but even worse if it’s tainted or contains heavy metals. 3rd party testing sites have found many supplements containing heavy metals like cadmium, mercury, and other chemicals/metals that weren’t supposed to be in the supplements, because it’s not regulated these things slip by. Other risks are getting mis-dosed supplements, some vitamins are extremely toxic when taken in large amounts (mainly fat soluble). just my 2 cents from being in the fitness industry.
  21. I ordered from iherb and never got hit with fees. Not to say you won’t but I haven’t. good to know though, maybe I’ll try ordering some stuff to see if I get hit this time. It was roughly $100-$150 of supplements / toothpaste. Wasn’t anything bulky or odd so maybe they just let it pass through. Id assume if you’re importing a tv or something you’re more likely to get charged duties was 3 bottles of resveratrol and I think vitamin d as well as a few life extensions whitening toothpaste (one of the few with hydrogen peroxide in it) oddly I thought crest 3d white has hydrogen peroxide in the toothpaste but turns out not to be the case. Makes a huge difference for whitening teeth, if you order from iherb, if you’re interested it’s worth every penny. Which reminds me I need to get some more. Lasts a while compared to other toothpaste, I’d use both crest 3d white + life extensions toothpaste (50/50 mix) and the life extensions would last 2-3x longer than the crest 3d white
  22. Interesting, motorbikes even in Canada typically don’t have emissions testing requirements. This could be a good time to invest in electric motorbike companies. I’ve been watching Niu technologies for some times and it’s stock has come down quite a bit, it’s still overvalued in my opinion but if it drops further I may invest
  23. Yea I have a plane ticket on my visa expiration date, if it gets denied I just will take the flight, if it gets extended I change my flight. I’ve actually had one since I came to Thailand because I booked a round trip, so I’ve just been changing the “return” ticket. air Canada had a promotion during covid with unlimited free flight changes up or a certain date and then when that expired I told them the flights are like $4000 now so I need to change the ticket a few months out further because I couldn’t afford a $4000 ticket, so they actually just gave me a voucher with the ticket fare credited. I will admit though they catch you with a bit of misc fees when changing flights like “tax or misc charges” was about $10-$30 each time (varying), I think 1 time was completely free, I guess it makes sense since no exact flight costs the same, I.e you might change a flight from a $650 ticket to $660 so you have to a pay the difference. I’d say that’s not a bad deal $10-$30 every 2 months plus 1900 baht visa fee. I like having the ticket there just incase, seems like ticket prices are volatile, would be bad if I got told I have to go in 30 days and then ticket prices were up to $4000 again like they were this summer (that’s for economy)
  24. Madoff got a life sentence so maybe not too unreasonable
