Everything posted by it is what it is

  1. This initiative is expected to attract around 50,000 tourists daily from November 24 to 28 agree. also, it's shockingly written as no context is given for the, twice mentioned, '50,000 tourists'. e.g. how does this compare to a normal day? who writes this stuff? who sub edits this stuff? why do such shockingly written articles keep getting posted here? why does no one notice how badly written it is?
  2. no responsibility. that's not the point, the govt was trying to gain kudos with the population with a populist initiative based on current events. and it looks like it's going to back fire. oops.
  3. the article is light on what actually happened. often the account holder is persuaded to give access to the scammer, so fault actually lies with the account holder for not being more switched on. my mother is 86 and manages to cut the call if anyone calls regarding her banking or investments, her bank will not call her and she know this. it's not difficult.
  4. 550 mass shootings in the us this year to october, i think thailand has a way to go yet. tbh though, one shooting, mass or not, is one too many
  5. you talk as if thailand is the only place where fights break out in bars? savages, to use your term, exist in every country
  6. i can honestly say i've never had a bad experience with an IO either at the airport, land border or CW, they have always been reasonably efficient, helpful and sometimes even friendly. i do see other foreigners shabbily dressed, with attitude, with unhelpful interfering wives/gfs and can see how IOs could get fed up with such types. i believe if you're organised, relaxed, calm and patient you won't go far wrong
  7. another reminder to have your affairs in order, just in case.
  8. probably one of several mules on the flight, likely someone from a deprived background now paying a very high price for a bad decision.
  9. there are short term lets at my building but very rarely any issues. it's a well managed building and any contravening of the rules results in a warning and then, if no improvement, removal. i did my research and live in a building that i knew was well managed. research up front can pre-solve an awful lot of condo problems
  10. hardly onerous requirements, best flight deals are often booked ahead, and you can easily book a hotel and cancel with zero cost
  11. since i've been here; 'up to to you' and 'see you next time', i just love using them
  12. define rich. my mate has worked in the HK/Singapore financial markets for years, he's rich, we're the same as we ever were. but his mates are well beyond that, the cars, the houses, kind of mind blowing. i'm currently dating a successful business woman here, she regularly travels to the US, UK, Aus on business, usually first class, top end hotels. but to me she's just the bird i'm dating
  13. The driver, returning from a religious ceremony, unfamiliar with the route, crashed into an electric pole, seems neither the author of this piece of 'journalism', nor the sub ed, noticed how ridiculous it sounds.
  14. I started to hear this phrase in bars when i first became proficient in Thai. In my opinion this roughly translates to ‘foreigner who knows too much can’t be taken advantage of like a newbie can' my question is, how does one who lives here long term avoid knowing too much? it would seem to me the longer one lives here then the more wise one gets to their scams. easy, don't hang out with lower class, lower educated thais and thai sex workers. i've been here many years, never been near the bar scene (tbh never needed to) and i've never heard any thai friend or acquaintance suggest i know too much.
  15. find an animal charity/pro bono vet who will assist with the cost.
  16. quite a lot of over reacting going on here. as other posters have said it's quite common for police forces to co-operate to varying degrees. also, if you read the article, despite the headline, nothing has been agreed yet.
  17. wait and see... on Tuesday, November 15th, and top Thai police, tourist police, and Central Intelligence Bureau officers would attend to hammer out the specifics of the plan.
  18. without wanting to be a pedant, all i did was follow the instructions provided...
  19. absolute nonsense. from the university students i dated 25 years ago to the designers, hospital directors, business women, physiotherapists, etc. i date now, i have never, ever, had to pay for any of them to be with me. some people know nothing about thailand.
  20. how hard is it not to overstay? deserves the full force of appropriate legislation thrown at him. people like this only make things more difficult for those of us that have no problem following some basic laws.
  21. too much moderation inconsistency, some get suspended for mentioning grammar mistakes, others not. a friend was suspended for writing 'plus ca change' because it's not english language, despite being a french phrase commonly used by native english speakers, as are many latin phrases, so the rule makes little sense. this though is small fry compared to the proliferation of bigoted, sexist, homophobic, transphobic language and comments that are allowed here seemingly with immunity.
