  1. i know a couple of guys dating/married to well off thai women, wouldn't call them gold diggers as they met dated/married under normal circumstances tbh it's relatively easy to meet thai women who have no need of financial support, in 20+ years here i've never dated a woman who needed, or asked for, my money. they have good jobs, homes, cars...
  2. The possibility that they had just come from the airport was not mentioned in the video or by Daily News who also picked up on the story. being a 'journalist' 'reporting' the story, didn't it occur to you to find out?! ????
  3. she didn't lose her ability to walk. unless she was carried.
  4. absolute no brainer. i've already qualified for full pension, mostly on class 3 contributions, and years before i get it. at least i know it's there - unless the govt moves the goalposts...
  5. went along with the gf to renew her license, if i'd know the what a kerfuffle it would be id' have given it a miss. hanging around for queue after queue, people everywhere; sitting, eating, sleeping... back home apply online from the comfort of my home, 10 year license and only £14. that's how it's done. (so much for digital thailand)
  6. this is not a thai problem as such, tourists/foreigners get sick, have accidents, need medical assistance in every country in the world. i've visited 50+ countries and non has had a mandatory insurance requirement. a countries economy benefits greatly from tourism, governments need to allocate what would be an extremely small percentage of this to pay for such situations. this is in no way to condone not having relevant insurance or self insuring which would in most cases provide excellent care should the worst happen
  7. Its no use checking in online because you still have to queue with everyone else to drop your luggage. some airlines do provide fast track for online checkers, seems daft not to if they want to encourage online checking in... one benefit of online check in is you can change your seat
  8. Even if they don't, something that size is not the easiest thing to hide. it only looks big when it's near land or in a harbor, out on the ocean/open seas it's very, very, very small
  9. in over 20 years of coming and going i've never had any problems or excessive waits at immigration. i've always had the right visa/documentation, been polite and calm, i've always found the IOs to be efficient, some more friendly than others, but all doing their job. in 20 odd years i have no complaints. seeing how others behave at airports and/or immigration centres i feel people who have issues often bring them on themselves
  10. sounds like you've been here for 27 years and learnt nothing, sometimes you just have to sit back, stay calm and go with the flow...
  11. you have to think thailand was a bit previous in its no testing statement, and now finds itself behind the curve, plus ca change...?
  12. Isn't gambling at a casino a no-no for Buddhists? nope.
  13. so there is a reason for all this mask wearing...
  14. once bitten, twice shy, surely?!
  15. contact the vet and see if they are prepared to do an online initial consultation, common back home following covid
  16. was chatting to me friend's 13 and 15 year old children last week, they were telling me about this incident and were critical of the government and navy, they are getting tuned in at a young age these days.
  17. could be a good year to be out and about celebrating, many of my thai friends will be staying at home due to covid fears. so, if you're brave enough get out there and party!
  18. updates for my phone will finish soon, so, great little phone that it is, apps will eventually stop working, just want to keep it going until i have to get a more recent version.
  19. condo owners in a thai friend's block rent out their condos on short term lets to holiday makers. when covid hit there were chinese holidaymakers staying, the thai residents took matters into their own hands are refused to let the chinese out of their condos until they were due to go home. i'd stay in a hotel if i were you...
  20. just looking at the shocking design and clunky functionality of my thai banking web pages puts me off installing their app. if the front end is that bad, how likely is it the back end is any better/reliably secure?
  21. anyone know where i can get a new, non-apple, battery for my iphone 5SE in bangkok? thanks
