  1. strange so many boats should be at sea in such conditions. was the weather reporting accurate? did they decide to ignore the weather forecast? hope all will be ok.
  2. there's non so blind as those who don't want to see
  3. agree, i've never met anyone who came to thailand specifically for songkran, i do, however, know many expats and locals that leave thailand over the songkran holiday. those figures don't get published... ????
  4. it sounds like the problems with your wife come from two sources, which may be connected; A. expectations. differing expectations and lack of understanding/appreciation/acceptance of the other's expectations, B. lack of effective communication. with seeming limited ability in each other's language, clear and effective communication must be difficult/impossible; leading to ineffective problem resolution, and contributing to point A - catch 22? if you're genuinely happy with the situation and your life, fine, but if you're not, get out.
  5. yup, 62 to 64, the age at which fully paid up citizens can claim the state pension
  6. the government gateway site is extremely good, easy to use to check pension, get passport, driving license, covid vaccination, and so on. i absolutely understand that they have to be strict when people first sign up, but it's very much worth jumping through the hoops as the benefits are great. i recommend every uk citizen sign up so you're ready to go when needed. i have dealings with the DWP every year and find them professional and efficient.
  7. yes, easy calculation anyone can do, the figures during songkran are similar to the annual figures, occasionally going down... the media, and this site, always get on the 'seven deadly days' bandwagon that statisticaly doesn't exist.
  8. do a netflix documentary, write a book, go on chat shows all to complain about, invade the privacy of, and attack your family and friends. i'd suggest the first step is getting a new therapist because any fool can see this is not the way to reconciliation and achieving mental wellness...
  9. the uk is extremely civilised, IMO anyone relying on the state pension is mad... pretty much all my friends managed to retire/semi-retire between 55 - 60, they either have excellent work pensions or private pension pots, all it takes is a little forward planning. when the state pension kick in it will be a little cream on the cake.
  10. 75% of people are wise and probably better off not paying tax. you can hardly blame thai people, i would guess the tax they paid is unlikely to be spent on education, health or social security and much more likely to 'disappear'...
  11. why does the media, persist with inaccurate reporting, statistically there is very little difference in the number of accidents during songkran compared to the rest of the year, in fact the number occasionally goes down.
  12. been traveling the world for 30 years, never had this problem. a lesson; get organised, plan ahead. with all due respect, it's not difficult
  13. you can legally be without your passport, if, for example a consul has it to process a visa. however, you would be required to have the receipt.
  14. probably got fed up with all the ads taking over the screen. he's not alone.
  15. why are you even wasting time posting here??
  16. any issues such as this can be referred to the financial services ombudsman, so it would be that body.
  17. nope, the full policy document is always provided and it is the responsibility on the the insured to ensure they are buying appropriate cover. if you choose not to check your cover then you can't blame the insurer. caveat emptor. excluding motorcycle accident cover is common in travel insurance policies, for obvious reasons. if you require motorcycle cover then you can request a quote, though it is likely to be expensive, again, for obvious reasons.
  18. not just misleading, but a factually incorrect headline. no policy has been reversed. the change from 30 to 45 days was a temporary adjustment not a change in policy. accuracy please.
  19. would have been useful if the OP had added some value by including the donation website link... just sayin...
  20. tourists? sex tourists would be more accurate.
  21. after giving my email address to thai immigration i began getting a large amount of junk mail/spam, coincidence?
