  1. no such thing as a one way street in thailand
  2. i'm not sure they've got the right guy, of the seven officials present not one is pointing. Free the Polish one!!
  3. not correct, if a foreigner committed such a crime it would certainly not result in deportation or even jail time, a fine probably.
  4. earth carrying truck, bet that had some momentum. i'd hazard a guess that the lack of serious injury is a testament to the safety design of cars today, rather an amulets... but what do i know...?
  5. nah, the majority were never working in first place. a friend had her bag snatched in a busy area in bangkok with many cameras. she went to the police, apparently they were either dummy cameras or were never correctly set up...
  6. easily done with a tick box; are you a criminal? if answer no, get extension, if answer yes, no extension. job done. next!
  7. define cheap, there are often great savings to be had in power buy and other mall electronics shops, prior to the world cup i saw big brand models with 20% + reductions. i'd just keep an eye out and pick up a bargain.
  8. horses for courses, though i could never live in a small village, especially if i didn;t speak the language - what do you do all day?! - but clearly suits some people. if i were to settle down with a thai, and this is highl, highly improbable, we'd live in bangkok or near the sea.
  9. in banglampu many of the larger hotels have yet to open and ones that are open are only using a few floors and/or not opening the restaurant. speaking to local business people this is due to low customer numbers and difficulty in getting staff - many migrant hospitality staff are yet to return.
  10. Old men drinking a beer at breakfast time in bars along beach road pattaya. living the dream...
  11. a stolen passport is a family matter? he wasn't really that helpful was he?!
  12. sorry mate, but you bought unseen, your choice. caveat emptor.
  13. nonsense, and more of an indictment on your lifestyle than anything else. my thai friends, male and female, are educated (many to master degree level in the UK or US), have good professional jobs and are widely traveled. they are in many ways comparable to my friends back home.
  14. agree, get the visa relevant to your status here. duh.
  15. had the good fortune to visit and stay on samui in the early 1990s; beach bungalow, makeshift beach restaurants, long pristine beach, clean sea... as close to paradise as i've ever been. went back around 10 years ago, was horrified by the state of the place, it was completely unrecognisable from the wonderful place i previously visited. wish i'd never returned, at least my memories would be untainted.
  16. absolutely agree, there's no more stringent checks than arriving and departing israel, which begs the question...
  17. Khun Ti said he divined the numbers from joss-sticks after he went to the temple to pray. oh dear, he's only going to encourage them...
  18. got a return to Vientiane for around $100 recently. bargain.
  19. i love the fact they have to rely on the CCTV from a booth selling sim cards to solve the crime. gives you great confidence in the security infrastructure at thailand's main airport...
  20. how quickly this thread has gone off topic! ????
  21. They're in for a shock if they turn up at my door as I know there's absolutely no grounds for a home visit. i'm sure they're quaking in their boots... ????
  22. all the Buses to Pattaya from here are FULL (maybe because of Dec 5th???) fair assumption, as with most countries, public transport around holiday weekends gets booked up.
  23. ill thought through legislation, lack of competent, consistent policing of the legislation. is anyone really surprised?
