Next is the $455 million. There is no telling where ANY of the bond money is coming from, it's kept secret by policy. Could be Russia for all anyone knows. THIS is why you vet all potential government employees for any substantial debt and don't give them a security clearance as a hostile foreign nation could hold it over them as leverage. And his supporters still don't see anything wrong with this. Beyond comprehension. 😒

20+ already arrested in purge of foreigner law-breakers in Phuket
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
There have been several stories of foreigners behaving badly in Phuket and immigration did broadcast their punch saying this is what they would do. I'm just shocked they actually followed through with it! -
Local file backup software solution for Windows 11 PC?
HappyExpat57 replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in IT and Computers
It looks daunting, but all it does is display a side-by-side comparison of the source and destination folders. The colors show which files are edited or just plain missing. Once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze. -
Local file backup software solution for Windows 11 PC?
HappyExpat57 replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in IT and Computers
I've been using Beyond Compare (latest version 4) for years. VERY simple, you can select individual folders and can do complete or incremental backups. Updated files are highlighted. $35 US for standard edition. https://www.scootersoftware.com/shop#:~:text=Beyond Compare may be evaluated,is a one time purchase. -
Bangkok airports hit turbulence: Ranked among world’s worst

I believe there is a generic lounge at swampy. Last I checked it was 1000 baht. Well worth it. -
Bangkok airports hit turbulence: Ranked among world’s worst
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I usually only travel once a year to the states so I spoil myself and fly business class. You get fast tracked past the basic queue both in and out. I find the rest of swampy fine. Clean, reasonable distances to gates, air conditioned. Air travel is never a fun thing to do, but I feel swampy does their part to minimize the drudgery. One of the worst? Hardly! -
I've been to Hawaii several times, several different places. Not at all my cup of tea.

Time to dust off my tale of leaving LOS. Seven years here and got fed up. Moved to Mexico, and STUPIDLY/STUBBORNLY did NOT get a re-entry permit, I was DONE with this place! I was back in about 6 weeks. The very first day back I was reminded why I left in the first place (trying to get internet to my rented condo) but it was with a renewed appreciation. Yes, I had to get a whole new retirement visa, but I knew that was my own fault. Sum num na to ME! 😁

Foreign man caught on CCTV stealing Thai flag in Phuket
HappyExpat57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I was an enlisted sailor on the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65). Before pulling in to any foreign port, we were gathered and the fear of gawd was impressed upon us. We were reminded we were ambassadors of the US and any aberrant behavior would result in double jeopardy. The host country would enforce their punishment then the Navy would enforce THEIR punishment on top. How would YOU feel if folks came to your home country and behaved like this?- 97 replies

Thai banks to charge for transactions abroad
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have several credit cards (one main, one backup) for using in Thailand. I made sure they did NOT include a Foreign Transaction Fee before getting them. Banks make money every time you use a credit card. This new charge from Thai banks is just a money grab. -

Use Taylor Swift disappointment to fuel Thai soft power
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Their case was a little different. They were working without a work permit. https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/advanced/2733010/russian-rock-band-faces-deportation-from-thailand -
Use Taylor Swift disappointment to fuel Thai soft power
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There was a similar article over the last few weeks on this subject. One of the largest considerations was how poorly artists here are treated. Case in point - about ten years ago, Lady Gaga was publicly ridiculed for her stage presence. Stodgy old farts found her outfits unsavory, but I've seen many Thai models in much skimpier outfits. Farts were also upset that she had a Thai flag on the back of a motorcycle but in no way did she ever use the prop in a disrespectful manner. And the fake Rolex thing? Well, we all know the truth about fakes sold here. https://www.richardbarrow.com/2012/06/thailands-culture-ministry-upset-with-lady-gaga/ Taylor Swift is a class act, donating tens of millions of dollars to worthy causes every year. It is NO loss to her to skip performing in Thailand, plenty of other countries welcome her with open arms. Anyone here who doesn't care for her? She couldn't care less. IF she were to perform in LOS, there wouldn't be an empty seat in the house. Also consider the millions of baht that will never be generated by the peripheral sales/concessions at every concert. Sum num naa.
