  1. As @BritManToo has properly stated, adopting a formalized retirement visa in any country should be the very last option considered. There are often better and much more flexible solutions available.
  2. I have been here a very long time and it is amusing to see this topic pop up every few years. It is in the same league as the perenial "are you gay if you have sex with a ladyboy" and "should I lend my GF money" threads. This is what I do. It is safe, environmentally friendly (no spray or gasses to harm the ozone) the cheapest option, and it gives you the greatest degree of flexibility on how you smell. Go to any old school Thai mom and pop store. Ask if they sell "san som". Motion like you are putting deodorant under your arms when you ask this. San som is a large clear aluminium oxide crystal. It looks just like a large rough piece of ice. It is also the active ingredient in all anti perspirants. It is getting harder to buy now....but it is still available...just go store to store until you find it. Last time I bought a bag was about five years ago....it cost me 20 baht....and I still have about half of the crystals remaining. The bags are probably by the kilo I think. The last one I bought had five or six big crystals each a bit smaller than my fist. Rat through the bags of san som to find one that does not have a lot of little broken pieces in it. You want just a couple of good big blocks. After you shower and your pit is still damp you just rub under your arm with a crystal. I keep one in a double soap dish (next to my soap) in the shower. After a few days the crystal with wear smooth to the contours of your arm. Take care not to drop the crystal because it will shatter into smaller shards, which can still be used, but not as convenient as a nice hand sized block. After you have dried off you then just spray your favourite cologne under your arms as well and on your body. The aluminium oxide stops you from sweating and your cologne gives you the smell that you like....and you can apply as much or as little of your cologne as you like. I also have fun trying new scents that I buy if I travel to countries or more recently that I buy online. I have just found a very nice smelling and remarkably cheap cologne and am now using that as well as my oxide crystal. I should just mention that if you do not drop and break the crystal it will last indefinitely. In fact I have never used one up entirely, they always meet their demise humpty dumpty style.
  3. Thanks for your reply. Is there a link to the information on this actual issue?
  4. I am very interested in this thread. At present I have too much money to qualify for the Australian OAP. However I also have a number of very serious medical issues that are now getting much worse and I expect much of my capital will be spent on trying to maintain my health (or stay alive) over the next few years. To the OP @Kenny202 is there not a potential elephant in the room that I think you have overlooked here? You posted that you have a wife. If you have a wife then Centrelink will require her income be assessed when calculating if you are eligible for the pension and what your benefit will be. That is if your marriage was registered...a prequisite being you obtained a free to marry stat dec from your embassy. Of course perhaps you are not married on paper.....or your wife is unemployed.... I would like absolute clarity on the following issue if anyone is able to provide it: Can I go back at 65 then stay in Oz for two years, then at 67 apply for the pension, then once it is granted, leave for Thailand. Or put another way, can the two year residency clock start ticking before you are eligible to apply for the OAP. This is a very important issue for me and despite reading all the threads on this website regarding OAP not one has posted a definitive answer.
  5. Jesus Christ....Why is the occupation of his father even mentioned. Have the actions of the RTP contributed to global warming?
  6. Panda Cloud free version.
  7. @OP I had to double check your post. I thought that I had written it. The secret to life is focussing upon the things that bring you joy. Would the joy a child brings into your life outweigh any negatives. Therein lies the rub.
  8. No longer a valid argument. Populations have peaked in most countries and are now in swift decline.
  9. Your breakdown is meaningless without reference to nationality and thus cultural outlook toward parents or step parents. But I know the daughter that wasn't your was Thai.
  10. If I put my new ssd into my pc and then ghost the orignal sdd (including programs and OS) can I then take the new ssd out of my pc and put it in an external usb drive housing (and will windows and my programs still work) to boot the pc from the external drive? Yes I know poorly worded question but I am in quite a hurry this morning....
  11. I used to do this years ago.....but then they would recount my packs and so it would take hours.
  12. Don't change them. Drop them all in between two Scottish expats and then rewire your house.
  13. Complicity is the participation in a completed criminal act of an accomplice, a partner in the crime who aids or encourages (abets) other perpetrators of that crime, and who shared with them an intent to act to complete the crime. So there will be another 11-12 people charged with aiding and abetting murder? I wonder how many of the 11-12 are police?
  14. Not worth the trouble here in LOS (Land of STDs).
  15. Yes. There used to be a very popular night club bar that stayed open late about 12-13 years ago. The owner was followed home and stabbed to death on his door step as I recall. I was in Udon at the time and in the club the evening he was murdered. Came as a bit of a shock. I forget the name of the venue...anyone??
  16. I have two anchors in each of my fishing and dive boats for this exact reason. If I am at sea and the anchor is lost on a coral head then I have a spare I can tie to the rope. I also carry 200 meters of anchor rope. I do this because this is not the West, there is no coast guard vessle or rescue helicopter to come and save you if you are drifting out to sea. I am frankly amazed that a tourist vessel such as this is not required to carry a reserve anchor. Maybe it is, but no one inspects to ensure compliance.
  17. Would have to abolish the Military and the RTP here. As for invasion, China annexed Thailand as a province long ago.
  18. How about just praying that this young lad pulls through this instead of worrying about who is going to foot the bill. I am quite sure it will not be you. Sounds like as a youth you were a model citizen. How boring you must have been. When I was 20 I never once turned my mind to the issue of risk. I was 8 feet tall and bullet proof.
  19. I have just bought an new SSD and an external SSD for this very purpose. But I have a few questions. If you install an OS on the external usb drive, what about all of the required drivers tp run the PC? Can I ghost the SSD inside my PC (with OS and programs) to an external USB SSD? And if yes, could I then take the SSD out of the USB housing and put it back into the PC to use in the event that the current SSD inside the PC fails?
  20. I did not realise that landlines are still a thing. Do you have dial up internet?
  21. Gods speed young man. I wish you a full recovery. It is good that he is at Vachira and not been ripped off at one of the private hospitals. And to all the numpties typing....no helmet...maybe drunk....his responsibility...you sicken me each and every one of you. Were you never twenty something? Did you never take risks...especially on an adventure with your mates. You should all be ashamed of yourself. It could well of been me lying in that hospital bed 40 years ago...just good luck on my part...
  22. Has your daughter hit you up for the money to buy her elephant ticket yet?
  23. Yes. Corruption cost is far higher than VAT.
  24. They know full well what is in most containers. A "tip" is the wrong term for money obtained from extortion.
