  1. Today (Dec 4), I received two letters from Chase Bank, my credit card company, one dated Sept 9, and one dated Nov 28, not metered, but pre-printed "Jersey Post Priority" one dated 11/20.25, the other undated. When I expect Chase to send out renewal cards (about two months before my card's expiration date) I always call then to request the cards be sent Priority Mail-Trackable and I usually get them in 7-10 days.
  2. Explanation: We have most of our assets in a US bank in JTROS. My wife is concerned that when I die she will be blocked by Thai probate from having immediate ownership of the JTROS accounts. Trying to explain to her that Thailand inheritance rules don't apply to US accounts. A Thai will doesn't include foreign assets, does it?
  3. Thanks, but many replies are off-topic. My question is not how Thai joint accounts work, but how to explain to my Thai wife how US JTROS are DIFFERENT from Thai joint tenancies.
  4. 99% of the locals I encounter daily speak Isaan! Luckily they also speak central Thai.
  5. I'm having a problem with my Thai wife understanding the difference between a US bank/brokerage account JTROS and our Bangkok Bank joint account. She thinks they work the same upon my death. It's my understanding that our JTROS passes directly to her without going through Thai probate. She doesn't believe me! I understand that, in Thailand some (not all) Thai banks offer a "pay on death" arrangement. but these accounts still have to be probated in Thailand. Correct? Is there ANY type of joint Thai bank account whereby the survivor can avoid waiting for/dealing with probate?
  6. Lazada will not take my America banks' Visa either credit or debit cards (two different US banks) and there seems to be no way to do a bank transfer from my Bangkok Bank account like my wife does on Shopee. I don't like the idea of COD for large purchases, so Lazada loses out on those! I just wish Shopee was more English-friendly!
  7. I am under the impression that there is no equivalent account relationship in Thailand to he US JTROS (joint tenants with right of survivorship) accounts whereby the surviving a/c holder automatically gets ownership without having to go through the courts or taxing authorities. Can anyone suggest an alternative? Is there a maximum amount the might avoid the paperwork/delays when one owner passes? Thanks!
  8. Any issues using Wise to transfer Thai baht FROM Thailand TO a US bank?
  9. As WC Fields famously said "I practice moderation in everything except moderation."
  10. I have a US Schwab brokerage and checking account with a Thai address and mailing address. No problems at all! 2-3 months before my debit card is to expire, I call the to make sure they will send them to my Thailand address. I don't remember them charging me for the UPS/FedEx delivery. I don't have a US phone number, only a Thai one.
  11. I imagine it would depend on if the account was individual (farang only) or joint with the questioner being the joint tenant.
  12. Bangkok Bank will not allow me to have two accounts. Tried to open one at a different branch. No go!
  13. If you're referring to the AWFUL stuff I had to drink the night before, I couldn't agree MORE!!!
  14. Dr Jack 54, Do you mean that in using the monthly method, the transfer can be used immediately? How many months if any does this method have to be used before Imm recognizes it as acceptable for a retirement visa? I'm thinking of switching back from the 800,000 method.
  15. If it is a JOINT account, doesn't the joint account holder have equal access/owner ship? Why would the question of being a heir come up? Thanks in advance!!
