Benefits to closing a bank account?
udontomi replied to bodo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Bangkok Bank will not allow me to have two accounts. Tried to open one at a different branch. No go! -
If you're referring to the AWFUL stuff I had to drink the night before, I couldn't agree MORE!!!

Dr Jack 54, Do you mean that in using the monthly method, the transfer can be used immediately? How many months if any does this method have to be used before Imm recognizes it as acceptable for a retirement visa? I'm thinking of switching back from the 800,000 method.

If it is a JOINT account, doesn't the joint account holder have equal access/owner ship? Why would the question of being a heir come up? Thanks in advance!!

I've become a HUGE fan of Taylor Sheridan!!! Currently watching Landman (Billy Bob Thornton is AMAZING in it!) Also Tulsa King (Stallone is great!). Looking forward to the return next month of 1923 with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Would like to see 1883 come back, too.

Horizontal Binocular Diplopia - (double vision)
udontomi replied to simon43's topic in Health and Medicine
I have vertical diplopia (diagnosed in America about 12 years as 4th nerve palsy) which is correctable with prisms in my eyeglasses. To make my story short, I went to Paris Miki in Bangkok after several unsatisfactory experiences In Udonthani and Kohn Kaen. EXCELLENT results!!! -

Trump's Cabinet of horrors exposes his totalitarian drift
udontomi replied to simple1's topic in Political Soapbox
It's his choice to make and, on the surface, it seems like he's chosen those who agree with him. That also is what EVERY President does. Again, on the surface, it seems that some of his choices may not have the qualifications that Washington insiders want. But the voters have chosen this maverick (Trump) knowing that he will do this. I just wish he would not make in-recess appointments so that Congress (biased) has the opportunity to question them. Just look what "qualified" and "experienced" has gotten us in the past! Corruption and Washington "elites" making the same self-serving decisions! -

cryingdick cited his source! These sources are the ones you should be jumping on, not this poster! -
I Hate Donald J. Trump And Here Is Why In Two Minutes
udontomi replied to connda's topic in Political Soapbox
Nearly all these comments are directed at Trump as a person and not at his policies! Wonder why that is? Personally and morally repugnant behaviora re rightly excoriated, but how about JFK's affairs while IN the White House" and Clinton's also? Selective outrage? Short-term memories" Or a sign of the times (media influence)? -
I support Trump's policies (mostly) but not him personally, his morally bankrupt lifestyle, his insulting, demeaning attacks on his opponents and his inability to be diplomatic in anything. On the other side Harris is a weak, ineffective leader but seems to have an effective team behind her, but when she has to speak extemporaneously she fails miserably. Maybe that's why she hasn't had a press conference stince she's been anointed?

Why are there so many farang lefties in Thailand
udontomi replied to susanlea's topic in Political Soapbox
I have noticed that most of the farangs posting here are radical lefties. That TH is more conservative has nothing to do with the farang posting (IMHO). Why these posts are more liberal probably has more to do with the fact that liberals are more vocal than conservatives. -
Kamala Harris trolls Trump as he backs out of debate
udontomi replied to shdmn's topic in Political Soapbox
WOW! So many Trump haters here!! I believe Trump said he was open to more than one debate with her and that he wasn't happy about them being on ABC because he thinks they are too biased (liberal). He has not ever said he did not wnt to debate her! Let's see a LITTLE objectivity here, please! -
I don't understand how these politicians think they can get away with all these "exaggerations" and outright lies especially with the increasing growth of fact checking! Do they think we are stupid, or are they? Now let's hear the fact checking on Trump!

Biden Discussing Future with Family at Camp David
udontomi replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The only serious problem for the Biden family is how he can withdraw while still preserving some dignity! -
1,882 new COVID-19 hospitalisations and 16 deaths in the last week
udontomi replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I would like to see some context in these reports, please. How serious are these numbers? Compare to flu, perhaps? Or to the period when it was considered a pandemic? Absolute numbers as well as percentage increases/decreases need some reference point for the public to judge the seriousness. Media has been doing the public a disservice by not providing comparisons. e.g. A 50% incresse means different degrees of concern when the cases go from 2 to 3 and from 2000 to 3000. -
Why single out Fox News? ALL the so-called "legacy" media outlets are just as guilty!! There are few that are truly "news," most are purely opinion soapboxes!

Speaking Thai - is it necessary these days for an expat ?
udontomi replied to The Cobra's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Living in Udonthani now for over seven years, I have found that speaking Thai (or Isaan here in the NE) is not necessary for at least two reasons: 1.) There is a LOT of English signage in the area; and 2.) Many Thais I encounter seem to prefer to practice their English with me. In my extended Thai family, most speak Thai (central I assume), Issan and Lao languages. Side note: My sister-in-law taught English in a Thai school and I have a difficult time with her English pronunciation. And she doesn't seem to want to practice it with me. Embarrassed? Maybe. -
My girlfriend/wife is 35 years younger.......
udontomi replied to Carlotta's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Most of these posts seem to ignore the cultural (family relationship) differences between Thailand and the western world. Thais have a very tight familial social life. My Thai wife is 33 years younger than I (American) (she was 36, I was 69 y/o when we married 15 years ago). I have outlived all my close family and so everything I own will happily go to her when I die. We love each other without reservation. To judge Thai relationships to western ones is selfish at best and stupid st worst! -
We planted about 14 (fairly remote) rai of trees and after about four years, they were STOLEN!

We are GUESTS in this country, just as they are guests in ours!! As guests we (and they) should have to comply with the rules of our host countries. No exceptions!!!!

I opened my Schwab account in the USA before I retired here. My "official" address is still in the US but my mailing address is in Thailand. No problems. I have a debt card which works here to transfer funds from the US.. Renewal cards come by UPS/FedEx. No problem. Love their service. I don't see a need for an International account since my permanent address is in the US, When I bought my truck here I called Schwab Banking and the temporarily raised my daily limit, but Bangkok Bank has a 250,000 TB per day limit (then).
