  1. South Park already covered this.
  2. Ah, I thought you'd be riding up the hills for workouts. In your case, you don't need anything special or ueber-expensive. Just a basic, decent-quality bike, 3-speed beach cruiser might do for you. Difficult part will be finding a large enough frame. You're going to need a 22-24" MTB or 60-64 cm road frame. Try Craigslist for foreigners selling their bikes.
  3. The only people saying "something comes from nothing" are creationists. Their majical man came from nothing, existed in and outside of nothing for an eternity of nothings, then said a majikal incantation and poofed everything out of nothing.
  4. What type of bike are you looking for? MTB, road, hybrid? MTB's are comfortable rides, sitting more upright. You'll appreciate the lower gears in the hills. Switch to narrower tires with less profile for road use. Trekking bars (or at least bar ends) will give you more hand positions. How tall are you? If average foreigner height, you may have trouble finding a frame large enough.
  5. Oh, no! A train accident 13 years ago? Not for me, thank you very much. I'ma stick with good old Boeing!
  6. Holy kwai, man! That's double the cost of California's high-speed rail!
  7. I'd be keen, too!!! The entire 1000-km from Kunming to Vientianne cost US$6 billion.
  8. Chanote is in wife's name. I have a lifetime usufruct, and she leaves me the property in her will. I wouldn't plan to stay here, rather would sell the property ASAP. The law would give me one year, with perhaps the possibility of requesting additional time. Kind of almost makes a usufruct pointless.
  9. Understood, but does the property still have to be sold within a year? If not, does the chanote remain in the name of the deceased spouse..........
  10. Get a pack of little neon post-it notes. Put one in your passport marked "please stamp here" each time you go through immigration, and ask the officer to stamp the marked page. I've never had an officer refuse the request.
  11. What is the procedure when there is a 30-year or lifetime usufruct on the chanote?
  12. Cable repair/replacement is a really simple operation. Order the parts (cable+housing) and tools if needed, do it yourself in half an hour. If you've never done it before, search YouTube for instructional videos. Park tools has an excellent DIY series.
  13. I did not know that. CNG cars need gas cylinder inspection annually, LPG cars every 10 years.
  14. Yes, they do. They know exactly what they're doing. They're going to keep pushing, increasing the heat on the frogs in the kettle bit by bit, and then act surprised when they get "unprovoked" pushback. Same with Ukraine. They knew where the red lines were, but they thought if they could overthrow the government and get "our guy" in place, they could steal the "Soviet" naval base on Crimea from Russia. Thing is, this is an election year, and both candidates need to out-anti-CCP the other. Any move by China to counter the threat, and it IS a threat, will require a counter-counter-move to satisfy the domestic audience. Buckle up!
  15. US Army Special Forces Train Taiwan Troops Near China's Coast https://www.newsweek.com/american-special-forces-train-taiwan-soldiers-penghu-kinmen-china-coast-1868009 Poking the bear worked out so well, let's try the dragon as well! What could go wrong!
  16. Speaking of ilks, the shining city on a hill has just recently permanently stationed Green Berets on Kinman Island. That's not just some lonely outpost in the South China Sea. Kinman Island lies in Xiamen Harbor just 6 miles from Xiamen Port and City, with closest point barely over one mile from mainland China. Apparently we weren't content with pulling Ukraine into NATO leading to the destruction of that country and loss of up to half a million Ukrainian men. Now we want to use the bodies of Taiwan's young men to "hurt" China. Expect to see reports of "unprovoked Chinese aggression" in the near future. But as a lovely young lady once said when asked about the deaths of half a million Iraqi children, "We think the price is worth it."
  17. Yes, done it many times. I just never put it on the YouTubes.
  18. Deport her for not having a work permit and performing reserved activities.
  19. Compare the FX rate offered by the banks with the Wise FX rate, and factor in transfer fees.
  20. No sense of humour, just an old sourpuss.
  21. How much do those billboards cost? I was thinking of renting one for Phuket.....
  22. What a shame. I was hoping the tradition for wifes was the same as for flippy-flops.
  23. What's the tradition when you exit a temple and can't find your wife?
  24. Not checking it is the worstest thing YOU could do!
