  1. Those are Malaysia's hotel rules and regulations and they've never been a problem for me on my business and personal visits, ie. doesn't stop me going there. Does that make me a Malay apologist as well? If yes, where's my prize?
  2. OK, so the provincial capitals and other commercial hubs and towns with universities aren't cities. My criteria is if there's a 'downtown' or an 'east end' and a 'west end', it's a city. Udon's got all that. In another eight years or so, it will have TWO ring roads which is one more than Bangkok. Living about 10km outside the ring road or a national highway is rural enough for me.
  3. Great idea. Please, PLEASE don't come. And all you that are here, don't like it and moan about it, please, PLEASE go home.
  4. That’s twice you have said this…why are you still here Isn't it obvious? He's staying at the Hotel California.
  5. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm beginning to see a trend here. Don't quote me on this but I hear there's apps to help people find airports and one-way flights out of here?
  6. Go ahead, hold your breath.
  7. Why? You loose your home country citizenship and many would loose portions of pensions and SS. So pay 'full-fare' at the hotel or lose your citizenship, pension and SS? That's a no-brainer, no?
  8. When you take into consideration that BA alone have canceled around 30,000 of flights over the next three months, it makes you wonder what travails the OTHER airlines are going through as they try and juggle, fuel costs, aircraft, air crew and ground staff availability with jammed up airports. I had quick squiz at the "3 weeks from now" market. For a one-way flight with stopover and a reasonable flight time, only Turkish seems to be close with £808 for a morning departure and a 15h 5m (1h 35m stopover in IST) or same price for the afternoon flight with duration 16h 55m and a easier 3h 25m stopover. I just plugged in a r/t with a return in 90-days and the prices changed markedly. Turkish come across cheapest AND with best flight duration (minimal layovers). I use ita matrix, then hit up the chosen airline website directly. Good luck!
  9. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear.
  10. Even if they don't go ahead with this idea the damage has been done and will take a long, long time to be undone. Not quite. Social media is all over this like a rash. Can you show me this "damage" that's already been done?
  11. Twenty-five years ago and still bitter? (they don't do it any more)
  12. You not here already? That's one less door that going to clip someone's' ass.
  13. No. No they should not. If you want local treatment, get naturalized as a Thai citizen.
  14. How can you leave when you're not here? Asking for a friend.
  15. The local nightlife in Udon Thani is quite vibrant as is the local restaurant and dining out experience. From what I've seen of Ubon while visiting rels, it's pretty much the same. Kohn Kaen would be the same. Depends not so much on what one calls nightlife but ones willingness or ability to mix with the locals.
  16. Same at Big C on Phosi Road in Udon Thani which is one of the busiest shopping precincts in the city. Mind you, they still have a couple of ATM's in the standalone kiosk in the front parking lot (along with SCB, Krung Thai and Kasikorn) so no big deal for cash access. The branch inside had two ATM's, a deposit machine and the bank book shredder updater. Maybe the rents got silly?
  17. Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and the whole Lanna thingmie will be overun by the Chinese before you wake up let alone brought in your first crop.
  18. Ah, only five years. Well done grasshopper...
  19. Go to Vietnam for a spell, maybe 3 or 4 months? After you've listened to their womenfolk's crow murdering, you'll simply love it back here.
  20. If it's @NE1's box, it isn't an LED driver. Good write-up on LED's though. I had to put 8 ohm, 50 W ceramic resistors in series/parallel with the after market LED's a retrofitted to my MY2014 Ranger WY. The BCM (Body Control Module) that handles CANBUS electrical stuff that's installed at the factory is programmed to see filament globes or constant current devices. The only ones that don't need resistors are the high-beam. However, without resistors, the low-beam would work for a few hours before the BCM cut off the supply which needed a BCM reset. You may also note a lot of vehicles with what's called 'hyper-flashing' of their turn signals. This is because they have replaced stock filament globes with LED globes but haven't bothered to add the driver and/or resistor. Vehicle turn flashers still mostly work on the old-fashioned bi-metallic strip that heats up and cools down thus making and breaking the 12V to the turn signal globes. Since the flasher module sees a different resistance (almost a short circuit with an LED), it heats up/cools down faster, hence the high speed blinker or hyper-flashing. They may think it's cool but in effect, it is reducing the visibility of the turn signal by over 50%, especially from a distance. When they then replace OEM lenses with dark tinted ones, the hyper-flashing makes the turn signal very hard to see in daylight. Bloody annoying!
  21. My old Credit Union had a credit card that incurred no fee's for any transaction including overseas. I am not sure if there's any foreign card that doesn't attract the standard 220 baht ATM fee here in Thailand. Some cards linked with investment and market accounts claim to refund "all fees" but it is unclear if that includes the standard 220 baht ATM fee here in Thailand.
