  1. And you may be confusing me with someone else who said "big bus good" as I certainly never said it. If the lack of news item about minivan crashes on Highway 7 suggests to you that it's safer than any of the other options for the same trip, then nobody here is stopping you doing it. However, the driver of your next minivan may have a different idea about what you are able to do in the future.
  2. Happen all the time right here, where I come from in Thailand so I can't see your point. But maybe you are confusing me with someone who thinks the Bangkok-Pattaya route is somehow blessed by St. Christopher, the patron saint of enduring road safety.
  3. Based on the logic of there being a perceived lack of reported events, you are suggesting that Highway 7 is somehow safer? Drivers more cautious? Speeds slower? The low-profile 'racing' tires that they replace the manufacturers recommended original ones with are better quality? https://www.newsflare.com/video/333608/crime-accidents/dramatic-moment-minivan-crashed-injuring-eight-britons-on-first-day-of-holiday-in-thailand# You can argue this one wasn't on your super-safe Highway 7 until the cows come home but note that "they were on their way to Bangkok" but probably hadn't planned on an barbecue on the way. https://www.pattayamail.com/news/7-die-2-injured-in-pattaya-commuter-minivan-crash-23050 More recently, this one made the Australian news headlines. Once again, not on the Highway 7 but "heading from Chantaburi to Bangkok" so would have been on your super-safe Highway 7 eventually if only the driver had kept his foot off the gas. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-03/thai-road-crash-kills-25-people/8158566 My reasoning is based on the notion that "it only takes one". I also remember my grandfather's suggestion that, "You have to die of something." However, it is entirely up to you to keep rolling the dice.
  4. Why not, they do the job? What job? Life changing injuries? Premature death?
  5. There's no evidence to suggest the minivan accident risk has been diminished or has even been assessed let alone is under control. Many words from government talking heads handing out nominal sums of cash and gift baskets of Brands Essence of Chicken for the survivors after one gets ripped open like a tin can, hurling victims across the pavement or bursts into flames, cooking them alive. You get the picture yet?
  6. From the dates and chronology of your previous posts, like myself you may be a pensioner? Based on that assumption (I know, always perlilous) you are mostly a leisure traveler? So what's fueling the dire need for internet on airplanes in these relaxed, twilight years? And this concern about what the other, younger, working demographic allegedly clamours for? Apart from some other, non-Thai airlines having it I mean.
  7. Unless it is clearly stated in the rental agreement, it's a classic fact of Thai landlord's life. This just in, landlords aren't responsible for replacing expired light bulbs that the tenant has been using either.
  8. So what? There's nothing to prevent her having loud phone conversations in her own property, is there? On my first pile in Pattaya back in the 80's, I had a high wall built but not quite high enough that I couldn't hear the foreign lady renting the townhouse opposite, out on her upstairs balcony on her phone at dawn, yacking loudly for ages. The wall was high enough that she could see our front porch but not the front lawn with mango trees. One early morning, while attending aforesaid lawn and mango trees naked (as you do), my house phone rang and as I wandered slowly back up the steps onto the patio, she had a grand view of my magnificent naked arse and promptly hung up. After that, she never appeared on her front balcony again, ever. Maybe she was Spanish and moved to Hua Hin?
  9. Some members do appear struggle with the cultural assimilation aspects of life in the Big Durian such as the cops NOT tazering a rowdy airport passenger (who was leaving the country anyway!). I do the half-and-half thing too except it's a clean break outside Thailand 2 or 3 times a year. A change is as good as a rest as my dad used to say and allows me to anorak on the different aircraft interiors of different carriers.
  10. The police need to ne notified of the death of any foreigner and if that happens in a hospital while under care, there's no need for any 'investigation' and a death certificate is easily issued. If the foreigner dies at home, there's no mandatory post mortem but the police do need to investigate. If there's evidence that the foreigner was under medical care or there are no suspicious circumtances, the autopsy will be waived. However, one should have crossed the t's and dotted the i's on that evidence. For example, my neighbor has been discharged from palliative care at a local hospital to his home with terminal brain cancer. His lawyer made sure there was evidence from the hospital that he was in terminal decline and the he was till under the care in the form of daily phone calls with his wife and a weekly house call. Otherwise, a death certificate may need to be issued by a doctor after doing an autopsy at the local police hospital. Regards computers and smartphones, one should investigate data encryption software if the contents may survive the content owner. For example, if TrueCrypt encryption is used, it's a (very, very, very long) password to access the data. I have clients that install it on workstations and if I have to reboot, there's a 72 digit "key" to start Windows!
  11. It's called a Lingam massage and it's not only katoeys that practise the art. As for the OP's water pot, the rubber diaphragms and seals inside the lid perish over the years, resulting in pressure loss which gets worse the harder you pump it. Loads of 'em on lazada. (not Lingam massages I mean)
  12. Sheesh... you haven't lived.
  13. I used to be a bit like that but it all came to a halt after Costco canceled my club membership.
  14. Not sure what you're seeking exactly but I hear there are some temples in Isaan.
  15. At the risk of going off topic, the OP and his wife probably fell foul of the then Home Secretary's draconian revision of the financial requirements for legal immigration by one's foreign spouse. It's a Tory thing.
  16. Absolutely correct. For a little as 3000 baht, they have endless cleaning capbilities beyond the car, driveway and house siding. Patio furniture, door and window screens, plant pots, motorbikes, cats...
  17. If the OP can provide details of the model of Samsung he just bought, a quick Google will reveal if, like many new phones, the SD card requirement is redundant.
  18. Ah, so that's where Mrs Garcia from 255/8 M3 moved to. She used to bang on my gate and complain about my dogs crapping in her yard which they didn't as our dogs were always kept inside our closed gate. It was other neighbor's dogs that were doing their business as she always left her gate open. But the only dogs she could see were my dogs. One day I went and closed her gate and she shot out of the house and told me to never touch her property. When I suggested the open gate allowed the other dogs into her yard, she said she needed to leave the gate open as she was expecting people and she doesn't have a doorbell and my dogs are bad and I am a horrible man and she'll call the police... No wonder Mr Garcia went home for a visit one summer and never came back.
  19. The owner isn't using the airconditioner so why should he pay for the maintenance?
  20. Is that what's stated in the Pattaya Baht Bus Cooperative's driver training manual? Don't answer that. I'm waiting for the definitive right answer from the Pattaya forum's baht bus Obergruppenführer @Jingthing
  21. OMG, how on earth did we survive before when the De Havilland DH50 was delayed with a flat tire on the Delhi stopover and there was absolutely no way to tell Reginald and Daphne in Penang that we'd miss high tea with them on Sunday. But seriously, how about your wife getting Flightradar24 on her smartphone like mine does?
  22. I thought the most important contributor to becoeing Thai PM was getting the Senators onside, not the lower house. So he gets 40 MP's. How does that affect the total numbers in any meaningful way?
  23. The hiring practises of provincial and rural post offices has been the stuff of legend for at least as long as I have darkened these shores. Not sure if a PO Box is a solution for anything else but letter or small parcel mail. Plenty of shippers refuse to ship to a PO Box but once again, non-standard 'arrangements' have been made out in Bahn Nawk as the chance is the postman (if reliable) knows the address of the PO Box holder and will go the extra mile. You hatrdly ever hear of those feel good stories on this forum though.
  24. What evidence do you have to suggest he stole it or planned on keeping it for himself? He obviously did deliver it to the wrong address and ultimately did what he was prodded to do; find it and redeliver. Maybe you subscribe to the notion that all Thai's are dishonest and untrustworthy or they don't like us here? Yes, they are lazy and indolent and some are thieving opportunists but maybe having a farang who can't commincate properly goes a long way towards poor customer service (and online ranting) here? Anyway, looking at the time stamps on the OP's posts, his parcel went missing on Saturday afternoon but turned up a couple of hours later? Or maybe it was a few days later but he only decided to tell us all about it last Saturday?
  25. All good choices IMHO. Ours has been through three house moves and has needed attention from the moobahn appliance man maybe three or four times for drainage problems. Usually someone has been overfilling the detergent and after a year or so, the pipes get narrowed and once or twice it's becsause nobody has bothered to clean the filters. They have something like a 10-year warranty on the motor but moobahn appliance man says he's never had to change one. They usually rust out or have other issues first, like your existing one. For info, our new main machine is a 14 kg Haier cold wash top loader that I got from Makro for 8000 baht about 6 months ago. Bought that as a money-saver as the bulk of the family wash does not need heating. Those front loaders that heat the water use electricity and we know how that's gone through the roof this year. Sure the Siemens has a temperature selector but 'old habits die hard' with some of the users at my place.
