Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That connection isn't recommended by AY themselves due to the short connection time. Possible if hand-carry only, but if the inbound from BKK was delayed instead of early, it's the airport hotel. Friends being quoted in The Sun a few days back say "Yes the flights were all booked we've seen the confirmations in his emails." so they would have the information if he had planned for a tight connection or a layover at HEL. Anyway, it looks like he's called family to say he's OK but hasn't revealed where he is and, unbelievably after tearing both the Yorkshire and Thailand police a new rsole for being unhelpful, they didn't even ask him where he is or when he will return home. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/29778085/missing-brit-simon-robinson-is-found-safe/ Some mothers do have 'em! -
Changing New Passport Number At Bank
NanLaew replied to connda's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
No. In many countries, including the UK, the bank considers the passport as a higher proof of identity than the driving license, utility bill or tax receipt. People die, people hack accounts, etc.. My offshore UK bank had me jumping through all sorts of hoops to comply with mandatory KYC (know your customer) protocols. This fully 28 years after I opened the account. Thailand has recently signed up to the OECD club so expect more rigorous checks on your bona fides. -

Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand

Where is the information that he was on a "dream holiday"? His original trip itinerary was 13 days and not 'only 3 to 5 days'. So he shaved three days off. That still leaves about 10 days in Thailand. That's long enough to catch the clap and not know about it until he pisses razor blades on the plane, panics and decides he can't go see his girlfriend straight away. Maybe hiding in a dunny at Helsinki-Vantaa? -
Mystery Deepens: Missing British Man Boarded Flight from Thailand

Airports tend to be pretty secure, so he would have had to clear Finnish immigration to do that. No evidence offered yet that he did do that. He didn't have what now? He most likely had a r/t ticket on AY and, if his flight originated from MAN (he lives in the north of England so unlikely to have used LHR), there's no same-day transfer BKK-HEL-MAN so a +16 hour layover. Even if he had used LHR, most of those connections also require clearing immigration and a night in a hotel. HEL air side is single-terminal so no need to pass through immigration. It's a very nice airport, but not so big that one could 'disappear' for 16 hours, let alone several days. -

Kuwaiti Man Causes Severe Accident in Pattaya (short)
NanLaew replied to Video News's topic in Video News and Updates
Yeah! Only the LOCALS are allowed to do that. Foreigners need a WP to do it. -
There was a total of five shoves. The 'guard' pushed the victim three times with the second one being quite violent. Only after receiving the third shove, did the victim respond with a much weaker shove after which the 'guard' shoved hard, causing the victim to fall and get injured (not injure himself as the AN's news bot suggests). In the UK, it would come under causing actual bodily harm or ABH which can earn any 'shover' up to five years in jail. I recall Australia has a similar law where anyone delivering a blow or punch that subsequently results in serious head trauma, then they are also going to be charged accordingly. Here in Thailand, less so. Especially with the feral types that typically get hired to mind the staff in these locales.

You do not know the victim. I, and a few others on the original thread, do. Your speculation and comments on that thread were ill-advised, now they are sick.

I learned not to park outside ANY business that I didn't have ANY business in. You will be pleased to hear that I haven't had my head kicked in since, and the extra walking does me good. A rental car. Why?
-
yes they do. bob. In 1984, I ended up in a Pattaya hospital with a major face wound after a large beer bottle was used by a bar security chap in Pattaya Land 1, to teach me not to park my car outside a bar that I wasn't drinking in that night. Things haven't really improved much over the past 40-odd years.

As a personal friend of both the victim and his wife, I can safely say you couldn't be more wrong. Back on topic, he is in ICU with a very serious head injury.

Yeah, sure you are. If you are aware of all these changes you list in painfully excruciating detail, you're still ploughing the field.
