You can waste your life just saving money also. You end up living in a fancy house, but your in your 70's and just sit there because you lack the energy to travel. Who wasted their life, the guy who traveled around when younger and ended up in a cheap room, or the guy who spent his younger years pinching pennies or working at something that was not their forte and ended up sitting in the big house?

Your probably looking for old school stuff. I like Chinatown, especially the shophouses and tearooms. Obviously, there is a lot of Chinese influence, but it can be Chinese-Thai. After living on Sukhumvit, I moved to Chinatown for awhile and really liked it better.

I still can't figure it out ????. Someone washing dishes does not bother me, seeing a dog is Ok, I can point at the menu or ask for help or even learn some food names in Thai, and I don't have a mysterious disease that prevents me from liking Thai food which is some of the best in the world according to many people. Any other excuses?

I'm not kidding, but I'm laughing. CC's is not quality "western food". It's like going to a cafeteria or college dining hall in the West. In other words just bland stuff that has no spice or kick to it or stuff that's mass produced and microwaved (like a TV dinner). I can't figure out why expats eat there more then a couple times, other then the familiarity factor or the marketing or funny name ????. They are not cheap in comparison to local Thai eateries.

Nirun. Rental office at base of tower. Always units available. Walkable to Buakhao. Bring a parachute in case you need to jump off the balcony.

I used to stay in really cheap rooms when traveling around. I would get these foam mattresses (no springs) that had a towel for a blanket and no upper sheet. Guests slept with a towel for a blanket. The towel, pillow case and fitted sheet usually had some kind of cheesy cartoon on it or weird pink or bright blue colors like ones sold in China for children ????. I even remember having to discard a grungy small dirty pillow that I did not want my face on and use a towel from the bathroom, or my pants to stuff in a pillow case instead. In one place a large roach (I think a water roach) was on my pants in the main room and I flicked it off. Later that night hours later it crawled onto the bed and bit me on the back while I was sleeping. I'm sure it was the same bug I had flicked off earlier. ???? Of course, I did not hurt it, just put it out the window. ????‍♂️

There's a nice waterfall up in Pai that would be much nicer go out in.

Try Nirun, it's central just not smack dab in the center. Cheap rooms, many with city/sea views. It's not for people who want or need fancy. Older building. Rental office on ground floor of large tower building. There are almost always units available. The cheap rooms don't usually make it to the online listings, you need to visit to find them.

There are a couple vloggers who live in town. That's all they do is turn up unannounced and look at rooms available.

too low in general for the base or that level of building. if you need around 4-8k look at a place like nirun condos.

Anything that says "international" in it I would avoid. Goto a regular hospital or dentist.

I'm never renting my place again. I had a tenant who let their dog live in a carpeted bedroom just like a human! It crapped and pee on the rug. No way to clean it. Steam clean makes it worse. Whatever you do, don't allow pets unless your sure it's an outside animal, everyone promises they are well behaved but it's not true.

I would say, not worth it. It's all based on peer reviews and in order to succeed you need to be in constant communication with people and know how to keep them happy (on a personal level). That usually entails meeting people in person as the platform attracts people who want to live in people's homes vs hotel type people. If someone messages you on the app you need to respond right away or your rating goes down, stuff like that. Just a few negative reviews by picky customers and your toast (everybody believes the review). If you challenge or respond to the reviews you look like a dick. You can also add in the middleman factor. Your not getting paid directly so any complaints the funds are held and you need to fight to get them back.

I don't think you will get an agent driving you around to rent a 10k place.

It definately seems like the kind of place that would attract someone asking for a lot of tea money. We have an over the top kind of place that attracts a lot of attention in a prime area and a new owner who seems to not know much about the culture. Recipe for disaster imo. What he wants to do is open a smaller well run place that works and not stand out like a sore thumb. So if your naive it does matter and ends up not working because your in a country surrounded by people who think it's dumb. The seating I mentioned was a sign of a future problem with the bar and it's success.

According to facebook page the beach club in treetown is only closed for upgrades. The weird thing about it is the VIP seating is recessed into the ground so when you are served people's feet are at your head level ????. In Thailand you would do the opposite, important people sit higher, not lower. I always thought that was very funny, like he did not know what he was doing, or knew zip about the culture.

I think it's calked 'bauk' in india. it's common for a stag group of guys to get a single female and all do her as a group. it even occurs in public. have you been on beach road where they are walking as a group and kind of surround one lady and linger? it looks weird like there are too many guys there, very unlike a westerner who approaches one on one. happens in massage places also. there is always a group of guys who kind of surround one lady.

Sounds like this guy was being overly friendly. Was his name Woody?
