  1. I agree. I would take Lk over Pk. Why do you want to be near Soi Buakhow though? You may not like it if you don't like grungy? Or do you like partying like a grunge and living like Mr. Clean?
  2. It does not seem to suit you. You have an issue with older buildings and thought Pk was grungy, with not adequate security. So I'm curious, why you desire to hang out in Soi Buakhow enough to buy near there? That's not an upscale location and you're going to find grungy there. Or did I misunderstand you and it's just the general location you want and not to visit that street regularly?
  3. Or, more fussy. The area the Op is interested in sucks. It's full of grungy bars and low rent people getting wasted. Op, can you explain why you want to access that area so much?
  4. I want to die on home soil also. I mean, who wants to rest forever somewhere where they are just a guest? 🤣
  5. Why would you "need transport" at LK? Like most other places food is down the street and anything else you might need. There's no reason for the Op to goto the Soi Buakhao area as far as I can see unless he is a tourist or needs to goto a particular venue for some reason. Bars are all over and they are pretty much the same.
  6. I think some of it could be getting older. When you get older you get a bit jittery and not as balanced. Most older people have vision issues also with bifocals and thick glasses and such. If you add in some drinking it's not like a young strong guy is out there on the balcony. I was out there recently and did not feel as confident as I was in my 20's & 30's. I had to walk around more carefully then when I was younger.
  7. You could make it a joint bank account and put both your names on the account (assuming they do that in Thailand). Then she can transfer funds at any time. If you don't trust her now why leave her the money? 🤷🏻‍♂️
  8. I always wanted to be sailing around on a yacht somewhere eating lobster and drinking champagne. I wanted a life at sea. When that was well and done I wanted a large mansion by the ocean to recover from my travels and to rest. You can throw a nice wife in there and maybe a couple kids as well. No big d food court for me or immigration hassles. I'm a man of leisure and means. What happened to my dream?
  9. It's not about being a boring or masochistic guy. When your skint there's no choice. Livin' on a government pension. Waitin' for that check deposit each month. No champaigne wishes and caviar dreams await. That's TV. When you can afford dental implants and a nice steak that's what dreams are made of. Welcome to your retirement, you deserve it. You got's cheap eats, clean tank tops and free time. You can have a beer anytime 24/7. Thanks for your service, buddy.
  10. No. It sounds like a prelude to a balcony dive.
  11. A lot of guys in pattaya drink all the time. I figure they are drinking their cares away. Once buzzed they have some cheap eats at the big d food court. Later on, it's time to hit the sack in the small fan room. Life in retirement is what they always thought it should be, but not what they dreamed it to be. No worries.
  12. Very rarely, but if I had more genuine Thai friends or family here I probably would. 🙏 My interactions are primarily with service staff or similar where it is not expected to be returned due to the relationship.
  13. Not if people start running low on money and supplies. You would be a primary target for theft, scams and the associated risks that come with it. I would not want to be in a "rural area" in that situation. Look at Venezuela and the scene there due to inflation. No way would you want to be an outsider there. War tends to cut off supply routes and the availability of goods and people start getting nasty.
  14. That's nice, but not typical. Does not help the Op.
  15. Did you negotiate down, what was it first listed at?
  16. One place you could go for safety nearby if that ever happened is Vietnam. They would not likely let you in though, borders get shut easily. Most other countries in the region would look to China for protection. Many people would be trying to get back to the native country as conditions deteriorated in foreign lands. Social support systems did not work for them or they were not eligible in strange foreign countries. Understandable, they were just guests with strange foreign wives. Some got on a flight, looked out the window and saw a large mushroom cloud rising up behind them. They thought 'What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?' When they served the evening meal on board nobody had the meat dish, they all turned vegetarian because they don't want to eat bat. They can carry nasty diseases and it's just better to not eat weird animals.
  17. man up on the weather, man
  18. I stopped buying bread at biggie. Many times I go in there I see people touching the loaves with their bare hands. That means it's being handled all day long.
  19. 10k feels a bit low. Did you get that price in Pkcp?
  20. You might be happier in another country with a more temperate climate.
  21. So you spend your life indoors?
  22. How would they tap in, run a wire from the actual meter, or could it be done from an external line somewhere outside the building?
  23. I found the emotional honesty of Vietnam quite refreshing after living in Thailand. I don't necessarily want every person smiling at me, kissing arse or too helpful. It's pitiful and not natural. I did not get that vibe in Vietnam.
  24. Are you happy breathing stale chemical treated air all day and night? A/c makes me feel like I'm at work in an office.
