  1. Wealthy people often wear high end clothes just forgo the labels. Also mix and match. The Noveau Riche are annoying. I feel sad for Thais that chase brands, especially cheap ones, low value. From past life and career I still have some nice Italian and Florsheim shoes. Not easy to stand all day in so I've not worn them to work. Used to love Sperry. One pair 25 years but the soles were gone. Bought a new pair - Chinese junk but still expensive. Some decent ties bought on sale. I hate cheap ties and looking budget. Going to pub in shorts is fine. Omega seamster now 20 years on my wrist. Persol sunglasses. I got a mad discount on. The best, hands down. I usually buy the best electronics I can afford short of the top end hifi. Cheapish Nike flipflops, sandals sandals. Gotta have bc of the fit.
  2. Firefox forever. Actually, on phone and PC I use Chrome for work and FF for personal. Brave is pretty solid, Vivaldi has its merits but the sync on Firefox plus it's dedication to security - Firefox. No love for MSFT even after it choked so badly it adopted Chromium fork. My main dislike of Vivaldi is it's stupid name. How overblown. Tor is built on FF When I retire I'll dump Chrome forever. I'm looking to leave Gmail and Gapps just no free alternative. I don't mind paying a bit just not with my credit card so it's gotta be free.
  3. Dear God, What the hell is wrong with people?
  4. Ah, days on Indonesia/Pelni brings back memories... I mean nightmares lol
  5. I used to carry a shortwave when traveling. All the stations / times just disappeared with internet coming online. It's understandable now in 2022 but really missed it in 1997.
  6. I'd go to a doctor not seek advice here. Sounds like you're on huge amounts of meds. My BP is pretty high due to urban lifestyle and lack of real and proper exercise. I have been taking enalapril 20mg and it does the trick. No side effects, no diuretic problems. I hope you have a boatload of medical conditions because if all you have is high blood pressure it seemed like it could be solved for easier than all that medication.
  7. Yawn. Prasat Phimai? Phnom Rung? A walk through a night market sampling food? Fun, engaging evening at open air variety show? A lovely restaurant on a river featuring dynamite Laotian food? No. A beer case.
  8. Is this supposed to be interesting? You go around the world to arrive at a Mini Mart.
  9. Why are your threads always so negative and base? Judging by prior posts it's 12 years longer than you've ever been with a decent woman. It's half her adult life.
  10. Khon Kaen fairly decent uni as far as provincial Thailand goes. Decent medical school as well. Draws best from top secondary schools as a back up (med school).
  11. I agree. That's because in the thirty years I've spent in East Asia three weeks set aside for Phil's and I left in two never to return. You're genius at reading people. Oh, I'm married to a Thai and we've been together 12 years. Looking at your dozens of posts and this one .. In the end (shortly) you'll head back to Pattaya and that will be that. Why delay?
  12. A harem to come rushing up to him like he's a movie star. When I first came here in 1992 I only spent the night in BKK and circuited out of Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. Just reading Lonely Planet told me the place was over traveled. By the time I did Thailand in 96 I found it just that. CM was totally unimpressed as was all the ancient ruins save for the two Khmer temples in issarn. I was under 40. Issarn was ok but getting about a chore. Always found the people friendly. I personally wouldn't go back to live. Bangkok has few amenities but I like the subway and convenience. In another ten years maybe good doctors will be a concern. Issarn is quite poor and after decades of travel in LDCs I just don't need to be in the middle of that any more. I think Angeles, Philippines is really what the OP is after. Dumb, desperate women, English speaking and western food.
  13. provide extra resources for tourism infrastructure and to introduce automatic health and medical insurance for holidaymakers in the case of an emergency in the kingdom. I'd not read that the medical insurance was actually a thing? It was simply the best excuse that was offered but nothing legal. My understanding was that it was perhaps insurance for HOSPITALS if a farang would not or could not pay the bill. Of course, the details of the coverage could be published easily enough lol. Additionally, I expect this to be another racist double charge (I rarely make such a charge) in that I'm sure that those on non tourist visas will be charged. I think it even fine to charge teachers, most have no permanent stake here - but to charge O visa holders is ridiculous. Will be interesting how this gets implemented. I can't see every travel website building a special clickbox for - are you a Thai national? Who checks the fee and how? If I recall your passport, details usually go in after you view full price including taxes. Maybe it's back to buying a 300b paper ticket. Finally, the main reason for this fine never sat well with me and always extremely suspect... To help with tourist infrastructure. It's purely a slush fund and appears entirely as such which is really why it's taken years to shove through. Nevertheless, incorrigible Thailand pushes on. A family of four will now pay b1200 about a days wage for millions of Thais. Could you imagine paying a days wages in your country to enter... Just because???

    Coffee

Arabica is the superior bean generally speaking. I believe Moccona (green) is Robusto but it's quite acceptable black. Too bad it has vanished.
  15. Not to belabor the point but according to Joe I was correct until 20-30 months ago. I've been here thirty years. In that sort of time you learn a thing or two. Obviously, this was not one of them.
  16. I'm on a marriage visa. I've had two issues in ten years neither related to bank books or money. Niggling details.
  17. Go visit. Bring every question you have ever imagined to ask. A short list of diploma and or degrees.
  18. 2019. Very well. I stand corrected. Apologies@DrJack54
  19. No one checks lol. What they might do is check your book well after the fact - months. Just to hassle you and maybe fine you but this is not RTP national policy. Anyone rec'd a call and warning at six month mark their balance dropped below xyz? Of course not. The rogue offices look at this when you apply again - tsk tsk tsk you pay farang. There is no limit one must keep an account I'm aware of after the extension is proffered. Yeah, we heard that wives tale about 90 days post but it's just blah blah. Unfortunately, each office can do as they please.
  20. Five months?? No, it's three before and one after while waiting for a stamp. I think retirees get the stamp immediately but I'm not sure there. Five months?? I agree as well. For me it's 400k and I just let it sit.
  21. Exactly. First, this appears to be a jomtien, Pattaya immigration lark not a RTP national policy. It's not always done - which I guess is a weird way of saying it's ONLY sometimes done...In Jomtien. This is not immigration policy. I defy you you pull down such a statement on the official immigration website. So, link please.
  22. Try Singapore Annuity is a poor financial device but a wise move imo. Good luck and good luck with the cancer!
  23. I disagree entirely. Three (2-3) months or whatever the time that is written in their documentation. <removed>
  24. Absolutely. But this notion it's checked post 90 days after the extension?? Or that one must keep the account topped up to some mystery formula? No. <removed>
