The police are the more visible manifestation of corruption in Thailand, but the real problem is much deeper than that.
Whether it is a minor civil servant asking for a couple of hundred baht tea money to issue license he is paid to issue or money being ripped out of major infrastructure projects corruption is rife in Thailand.
Too many Thais shrug their shoulders and say "that's the way it is". Many hate the corruption, but are powerless to do anything.
The police have to be dealt with, but this just treats the symptoms and does nothing to cure the illness.

Thanks. Looks useful.
If you own a number of condos that you rent out, can you register for each premises?
For landlords it would be helpful if property agents could get an account in a similar way that hotels do. They could do the report for their clients.

Recently the Al Jazeera English has been replaced with the Arabic version on Sophon. I have tried ringing Sophon, but can't get a reply.
Anyone got an idea what is happening and when we can expect to get the English back.

Again it may depend on where you intend to drive, I have read on here a Thai licence can be used in the UK.
Yes it can legally, but the problem I had in the past was some hire car companies would not accept it without an IDP. I had to shop around. I hoped if I could easily get an IDP I could save myself some hassle.
Thanks to all those who have taken the trouble to reply.

Does anyone have any recent experience of obtaining a IDP at Banglamung Land Transport Office (LTO)? Google throws up only confusion.
In particular:-
- Can I even get an IDP at Banglamung LTO? One site tells be I need to go to Chonburi.
- Are any forms required in English or do I need to take someone who can read Thai?
- What documents do I need to take e.g. Residence Certificate from Immigration?
- How many photos and what size etc.?
- Any special hassles I need to prepare for?
Thanks for any advice to avoid multiple trips to the LTO

Does the PEA Smart Plus work overseas? Anyone had experience?
I assume it does, but then "assume" makes an ass out of you and me.

The next step is they will drop the insurance thing.
The vaccine proof will remain.
Not sure about the Pass.
The vaccine part can be handled without the pass.
Think you are right. Hope you are right. We are getting there, but progress is determined by Thai Time.

Check the ones here that is shown on the Thailand Pass site. https://tqm-app.com/static/thailandpass/index.html
The website says that insurance cover is required for the entire duration of your stay in Thailand. Yet it seems that in practice those coming in with a reentry permit, with many months still valid, can get away with cover for 30 days.
This dichotomy needs to be resolved. Having rules saying one thing and practice saying something else might be OK for a short while, but not for the long term. Any sudden move by authorities to enforce the rule could cause a lot of people problems.

Went to City Hall a couple of days ago to try and pay. Was told cannot pay until 1st May. Deadline July (no date specified).

Had my booster last Friday. Less than one hour - very efficient.
Staff told me they would be there until the end of the month.

Try turning off your modem/router for a few minutes to try and get a new Thai IP address.
It's possible your current IP is on one of the blacklists used by CloudFlare.
Thank you for the tip. Rebooting the router did the trick.
Rebooting the router is normally the first thing you do for an internet problem, but it never occurred to me that it was necessary in these circumstances.
Thanks again.

A few days ago I lost access to Asean Now. All I was getting was "403 Forbidden".
Yesterday I had a VPN turned on an suddenly Asean Now was back. Now VPN on and I get Asean Now. VPN off no Asean Now.
Why do I need a VPN to access Asean Now when in Thailand?

You need a "manager" who can be a natural person or a juristic person. If it is a juristic person (such as a management company) they must appoint a natural person who shall be the manager.
There is no reason why a co-owner or committee member cannot be the manager. However, in addition to the workload, the job carries a lot of legal responsibilities. Check the Condo Act.

Wouldn't it be correct to have a positive test if have Covid and are asymptomatic? You can still transmit it?
Certainly. In the early stages of the pandemic, when death rates and serious illness were much higher, testing was important. My point is that with the milder Omicron the importance of testing has reduced significantly. That is why many countries have cut down on testing for entry; preferring to concentrate on vaccination which is much more important.
At the end of the day massive testing and more targeted testing have their bad side. It is a question of which is the lesser of two evils.

I am currently trying to get my doctors letter stating I recovered from Covid within the last month. I had symptoms and tested positive middle of January and now test negative. But I applied for the day 1 and 5 test and go. Wondering if I should have applied the alternate angle. Much of this is confusing.
I understand that people who have had Covid and recovered can still generate a (false) positive PCR test, because dead cells might remain in the body for up to 3 months.
You know you had Covid and can do your best to deal with this issue. Good luck by the way.
What I wonder is how many people have had asymptomatic Covid without knowing it; then end up getting a false positive test and all that results from that. We shall never know.
The obession with testing needs to be put into perspective, especially now that we have the milder Omicron. In the early stages mass testing was useful and necessary. It worked in Germany until it didn't.
I am not saying we can do away with testing, but rethink on testing is necessary.

There are three options. Demolish it, finish it (perhaps with modifications) or leave in its present state for evermore.
Demolish it will be very expensive. Bali Hai has no money for that no matter what demolition orders are issued and I can't see City Hall paying with no chance of recovering the money. The mayor can say what he likes.
Finish it might be one way, but is it financially viable now? It would require massive bending of rules with the subsequent public outcry. Might even require an act of parliament to get it done.
By default leaving it in its present state seems the most likely outcome. Carcasses in the middle of Bangkok is one thing, but Waterfront is at the end of one of Thailand's major tourist beaches. What a wonderful advert!

Not aware of that.
I always make a deposit at CW.
Also many offices don't require 'activity' meaning deposit or withdrawal. They just require updated bankbook..
I have a fixed deposit account with money there year round. Never made a deposit or withdrawal, just update bank book and get letter. Always accepted at Jomtien.

Arriving from Hong Kong any trouble at the airport due to Covid regualtions
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

The requirement for insurance is one issue. Here is a link to Thai Consulate in Hong Kong which clearly shows you do not need it.
Entry - Regulation - สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองฮ่องกง (thaiembassy.org)
Your only problem will be the airlines. Cathay insists that you do need insurance and cannot get on the plane if you have not got insurance.
