Thailand Grapples with Growing Number of Foreign Beggars
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Actually that is a pic of me, I just paid my 800K for the visa. That was ok until they hit me with the tax on my income. Next year I will have a card board box.. -
Just a final push of the CCP in China to get its goods and political nonsense into Asia. At this point China does not have any choice, but to expand into Asia. It is its last choice. US is re-shoring, Europe is slowly coming around. Question is can it assimilate all of Asia before its total "or almost" total exit from the US. To little to late IMHO. But, what will happen is the continued anti Western campaign in Thailand. Thailand is falling in line. Land scape will change drastically in the next few years. I expect Thailand to go down hill about like Hong Kong.. A slow and steady decline. And with the help of the CCP it will all be the US and its allies fault. All western tourists and expats will stop visiting. Just a matter of a few years now.

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Gknrd replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
With the political situation, No Western expat should even remotely consider Thailand as a retirement destination. And, if they do then have an exit strategy in place and ready. -

This just fell into the Thai's lap. Create an easy expat experience. Get 100's of thousand expats calling Thailand home. Then fleece them. -

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Gknrd replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It doesn't matter at This point. All you guys will pay. Until you can't! Everything leading up to this has been so successful, and profitable for the Thai Government it will keep snowballing now. No more than a joke at this point. And you expats are a huge cash cow for the Thai government. Every one know this will be the last scheme hatched.. Hahaha. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Gknrd replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Honestly anyone with two brain cells knew the direction of Thailand years ago. Everyone else pay up or leave. Simple. Anyone from the US that went and invested? Unless you have some serious income and reservers get ready to go back to the US and rent an apartment for 2K / mo... haha. Or Strart border hopping. To try and keep your live in, or spouse and property you spent your life savings on... Hoping she doesn't kick you to the curb and keep your property.. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Gknrd replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Not going to happen in Thailand. Thailand is basically a communist country. The only way I see change is if China falls. Then you might see some change. The bad thing is that will take a decade or three. By that time Thailand will have purged all expats from the west. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
Gknrd replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
People don't realize how easy it will be to implement this. You guys that are stuck in the Analog age need to get up to speed. Thailand is fixing to rake the remaining expats over the coals. They don't want you in Thailand , how do they get rid of you. They slowly start making it to expensive to live there and force you out. It started a few years ago and is going to schedule. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is the way I handle my taxes in the US. I make my money from dividends and capital gains. I set it up so I just fall under the taxable guideline in the US. That includes my capital gains I take when I want something.. Before I stopped working I paid all debts, bought a new car, set up and try to stay under the threshold of the US tax limit. I don't always succeed but I try. Now you read the tax laws for Thailand. Which I assume you know nothing about, and are just trolling at this point. -

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Bottom line for me is. IF I stayed over 180 days I would be hammered it looks like. I have read the rules as they stand now. It is a huge rip off for allot of retirees like me. Or a huge tax libility if I were to retire there. The US has some very high thresholds Thailand is exploiting the area between. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I did a quick read over the tax laws. As it is, it is going to affect the middle class foreigners. I just did my taxes in the US. The US has some great tax relief. And has a very high tax threshold .. I went back over my return in the US. I use TurboTax there because I have consolidated my investments in two places. One a bank, and a brokerage firm which I can link both to TurboTax. The threshold in Thailand is going to rake the small investors like me over the coals. Where in the US I am cut allot os slack. The thing that interested me were the exact thing that Thailand was targeting. Taxable income for Thailand .. Just under 5K no tax. 10% on dividends flat rate. WOW And , Sliding scale on capital gains. Up to 35% and that is a HUGE rip off for me.. Summary and conclusion is it is a huge rip off for the average US and European retiree. Problem I see is the people already there that are middle income expats. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern

Well I may have opened my mount and inserted foot... ummm Had a little time to day and did some research. I did some calculations based on me. So this is what I would expect to pay in Thailand. I think.. haha If SS was totally exempt, which I assume it is now.. sorry about that! My dividends , where I make up my short fall in SS income would be taxed at a flat 10% rate. If I sold and had a capital gains on the money it would fall in the graduated tax rate up to 35%. That is as far as I got because it was all I was interested in for me! Because that would be my tax libality in Thailand. I did look at the two tax forms you file. And the 91 for would be my form I believe. Not taking in the double taxation agreement with Thailand, Which I know nothing about. Except I assume it means if taxed in the US then I could deduct it from my Thai tax obligations? It looks like I would be on the hook for a few thousand dollars a year in taxes in Thailand. As long as I didn't have any sales and large capital gains. If that were the case my taxes would increase at the rate as defined in the taxable income for Thailand. So, for me and me alone it is not something I would be interested in. Also I would be on the hook for a tax attorney in Thailand to make sure things went smothely. Summery and conclusion? Good ruck... -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You guys better be careful. I went through the legal end of it in South America a while back. Consulted with a tax attorney. No tax treaty here but, SS benefits were what they were after. And I checked every avenue possible. Not worth it for me. 170 days and I leave. And, these guys are not NEAR as save as Thailand if you can believe that. Allot of it gets unreported here with no consequences. Thailand, I would not even think about it until the smoke clears and don't listen to the armchair tax experts here. Thailand is only after one thing money... -

World Otter Day highlights conservation efforts in Thailand

Was in Pechaburi a few years ago and an otter crossed the road in front of me. I photographed it and stopped at the shop down the road. Showed the guy the pic and he got his gun and off he went. Last time I ever showed a local a pic of the wildlife I photographed. -
