Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
BritScot replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Wow another I'm alright Jack!! Another with shallow principles. Monetary wise 300baht is insignificant, however the principle is huge. If it was used to better the tourist journey and facilities in Thailand then make it a 1000baht but we all know there will be zero benifit to tourists, but a few pigs at the trough will get fatter. Plus what's wrong with back packers? Never forget it was those adventure tourists that put Thailand on the tourist map. And Gi's -

British Man Arrested in Thailand for Posing as Tour Guide
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
He isn't Thai so no correct channels as its a reserved Thai only job. -
No! In the uk over stayers who are leaving are just let through and on their way at most, they may get black listed. However, in Thailand its all about the money they can squeeze out of people. I would say forcibly holding someone to ransom is an international crime, and Thailand should be sanctioned for the practice.

Manhunt Launched for Fugitive Brit Thought to be Hiding in Thailand
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In the UK you are innocent until convicted (thank god)! So his passport is his unless it can be shown he is a flight risk and even then it's almost impossible to prove. Let's remember before he is publicly hung drawn and quartered in the uk conspiracy to supply is not exactly crime of the century in the uk. A couple of years at most. We dont know the ins and outs of the accusations and how valid they are. -

Engineer's Heartwarming Dowry: 120 Baht of Gold to Match Bride’s Weight
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
My wife's family did that with her sister, gave the dowry and the money from the party to them which helped them buy a house. My wife and I didn't have a party as it was close behind her sisters and her father didn't think it was right for people to pay twice so close. Then again we didn't pay a dowry. Some families are good. Oh and my wife according to thai tradition was dowry qualified plus has a degree. -

British Expat Arrested For Punching and Killing Russian Man
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Wow! Your family must feel really safe with you as it's head. Just what a coward would say. Sometimes it's the only way for a MAN! Should deal with a situation. One hit, he didn't hit him when he was down. Just a tragic accident that he hit his head. I hope the Brit gets treated justly "500baht" fine, as a Thai would but then again 6 or more Thai's would have attacked him, with kicks and stomps to his head when down.... these things happen. The lesson is don't touch any female inappropriately especially another man's wife. Note: At 35 I would have done the same, god even at 55 infact I have one last rodeo in me so I still would hit anyone who inappropriately touched my wife or daughter when out. I think the Brit showed great restraint only hitting him once. -
Open your ears and eyes. I suppose the old couple and their son a few years ago who got a severe gang kickdown ending in hospital and very serious injuries was a figment of the imagination. Wake up for god sake or does it make you feel safe victim blaming? This could very easily happen to you so better lock your door and hide under your bed....

Swedish man arrested for 972 days overstay in Thailand
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
One of the reasons I finally had enough of living in Thailand was waking up to a line of police vehicles on my drive and on the street (6++ vehicles). Visa check! I had been doing 90 day and annual visa trips for 8 years. Same house (my house) same immigration office. So you are very lucky not to be harrased yet. Oh and the obligatory photo with all the police and me next to my house. -
Time to stop giving Thailand aid.

You are a brave man. China is the capital of fake and you would risk buying gold from there. Just watched a YouTube of a Chinese woman cutting her gold bar to find a silver core. When you buy gold you buy from reputable supply countries. Swiss, UK, Canada, USA etc Germany is also trusted as is Australia. China = fake: rice, eggs, meat even noodles. They have also saturated the pharmacy industry with fake medicines including life saving medicines which havedirectly caused peopleto die. Good luck with China.

Foreigner Poses as Immigration Officer, Assaults Pump Attendant
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
So many racists on here. Self haters, in my opinion are the lowest of the low. Regardless of where he was from this is behaviour not restricted to race as it could easily have been a Thai behaving badly. There are just D. Head people. -
Tragic Tuk Tuk Accident: Israeli Family Declines Legal Action
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I hate tuk tuks with venom. From having my phone stolen back in 2005 and then the ride from hell I had in April culminating in a back injury. The guy was throwing the tuk tuck about putting it up on 2 wheels several time and going over speed bumps at full speed. Never again. I blame.e the tuk tuk driver for not paying attention and driving to fast for the conditions. Unless the pedestrian ran into the road he should have been able to notice and slow down. Tragedy. Get in a taxi the prices are near enough the same. -

Not really, it's just kids dabbling/trying the cocktail of drugs easily available now (well always were) in Thailand, or drinking hard and their meds stop working. -
