Foreigner Questions Thai Dowry: Netizens Respond

If you want to go down the traditional road then there are several criteria that should be taken into account traditionally! First dowrie or Sinsod is only paid for a virgin (that is the Thai tradition). The level of dowry depends on education and future earnings that the parents would recieve from their daughter. They invest money in education etc and that is hopefully their retierment investment. I should have paid a dowry but never did as there had already been her big sister's wedding and my wife's father said it would be greedy to have another wedding so soon. My sister in law husband paid a dowry with cash and gold but after the wedding they were given it back along with all the gift money and it was enough for them to buy a house. You have good and bad families in Thailand and a warning sign for any man is how your fiancées family react to the proposed wedding because that is how they will treat you afterwords.. If they see you as a cash cow that is how you will be treated. -

You really need to read the history of this area. Start with the bible moving forward to the last 100 years. Palestine was a Christian country and it was beautiful with beach front hotels and a paradise for holiday makers. Then they starred to take in religious people and as the persentage increased and as directed their 3 books to the letter until jihad started. Israel is attached by rockets every day plus the constant terrorist attacks. Then there are several ceasefire where Israel gave concession only for the ceasefire to be immediately broken. There are many Muslims living and working in Israel but there are no Jew's living in Palestine. Don't fall for propaganda of terrorists and never forget terrorists have no problem killing their own people to blame Israel. -

And: Kill birds as they fly into them. Recycle them is digging a big hole where it takes hundreds of thousands of years polluting the soil. Oh and my classic, they have to use a diesel generator to start them but only when the wind is right, to slow can't work, to fast can't work but people are making loads of dosh from governments making them.

OMG! So taking a country at the end of a gun is a slight infraction of the law. The most currupt of all are those in uniform. Becoming billionaires on quite a modest salary! Pull the other one... -
You must live in a rose coloured bowl. Open your eyes and if you live in a village take an interest. Yes it happens a lot. Quite common for a Thai family to let the Boyfriend stay to prevent daughter running away but normally reslts in a pregnant daughter. I remember a 16 year old ran away so not to marry her 50 year old fiancee who had paid the dowry and helped her family out. He got the police involved. His demand was money back or to marry her younger sister. Yes he was Thai and yes she came back and married him.

Could this not as easily be a shake down gone bad. Policeman pulls his pistol and has it taken off him. They didn't try to take it, they disarmed him. Good chance the pistol was drawn. -

What utter nonsense! I was living and working in Thailand when Mr T was the right full and voted for PM. Everything was rosie for expats, life was free of persecution, border runs a thing of life. Everything changed with the coup and the persecution started: Visa rules changed, schools started replacing native speaking teachers with Philippine teachers and the list goes on. Same again happened with the recent coup. 800k, 400k requirements and more persecution.... -
Mr T who I personally do not like was the elected PM by the people and as was his sister. A coup is the highest form of treason and the leaders of said coups should be punished accordingly to their crimes. T. Has done far less than those you seem to support. Billionaire generals ammassing fortunes on very basic pay from a system the promotes on "purchase power" in which scum and most currupt always rises to the surface. You seem to have forgotten the jack boot at the neck of Thailand imprisoning every threat from people travelling on a train to the eating of sandwiches and never forget the brave nurse who witnessed unarmed murders.....

British and Norwegian nationals arrested for illegal employment
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Actually we did and if you knew anything about history you would also. What a bizzare thing to say about Africa. You sound as if you think Africans should still be in mud huts killing each other and slave trading each other. These things were stopped under British colonisation. Only an idiot would say that Africa is better now and more prosperous after we left. People should never forget GB stopped piracy at the cost of over 3,000 British sailors and freed slaves at a cost which left Britain with a debt it only recently paid off. Phew!!! -

Stupid is, stupid does. People like me, are you some sort of racist? I still have property in Thailand, I've lived and worked in Thailand since 2002 and since 2005 came across the early Thai visa (I think) for advertising jobs. I am married to a Thai and we have two children, so I think I've earned the right to comment. Why would I worry or be jealous about Thai visa earning as they have provided a service to expats for years. With your name I imagine a sad little nobody who has seen nothing and done nothing, hitting a keyboard in their fantasy world. Sad very sad. -

You do not touch, just look was and is the rule. The only thing you should ever take to the surface is rubbish or lost gear you come across. It's only Thais who getaway with desecration of the sea. -

So very bitter. I think the biggest draw for Northern Hemisphere people to come to Thailand is the weather and way of life. I have a house in Thailand we built and lived in before moving back to the UK in 2019. I can assure you that we never ever lived in 5,000baht rooms or sustained ourselves with 50baht noodles on the street but we did add well over 1,000,000baht of foreign currency to the Thai economy every year. Including buying 2 new vehicles and 4 big bikes and building a house. And their are a lot of expats who spend a lot more money than we did. Thailand needs expats and should wake up and start treating them with respect because one day they may stop moving to thailand and start going somewhere more welcoming. Lots of warm countries are already starting to be very inviting to us. Thailand is not the centre of the universe and if not for my wife I would never set foot in Thailand again. Give a bank 800,000baht of your money for the pleasure of living in Thailand, a country that despises you. "Use must be mad".
