  1. Whether someone could or not depends entirely on their own personal circumstances and of course their age. So it is more than feasable that for some it would be possible.
  2. it'll be those pesky Burmese again - obviously! Cant turn your back for a minute and they're at it. ;-)
  3. Me too. This is just another trumped up charge - article 49 was deliberately used by the outgoing "party" to stay in power when everyone wanted them to hold an open and fair election. They not only overstayed their welcome but seized power illegally in the first instance riding into town on an anti-corruption ticket only be more corrupt than every former government before them. I think anyone using Article 49 in this instance - especially after the way it was misappropriated by the former government - has not read the room .
  4. when did people become so weak that someone could do this to them? It's very odd.
  5. Report what?? You clearly missed the sarcasm in the post I take it.
  6. Uproar? Really? Because the two falangs were not asked for their permission to be in the poster? Give it a rest.
  7. They are predominantly used by the Immigrant work force, why do the criminal fraternity use them?
  8. You need to be on a Thabien Baan somewhere to get one of those though and most foreigners aren't.
  9. I'm afraid the good people of Thailand see things slightly differently to you, they are just glad he's back.
  10. nobody anywhere except drunks in bars has suggested that is the plan or ever was. He has no desire to "take over the reins" again. He doesn't need to. He automatically has the respect and the loyalty of enough people - he doesn't need to hold office to influence events. You dont seem to understand just how popular and respected he is in Thailand. No amount of farang bar banter is going to change that.
  11. excellent point. I recall my first visit to the Philippines 17 years ago and the taxi driver advising me to hide my watch and my gold and keep the window up. I thought at the time it was a bit OTT but it was sound advice. This was 17 years ago and yet people still walk around in the red light areas of Thailand as though the place is full of saints. Unbelievable.
  12. He's more easily controlled than his daughter - makes sense to back Anutin.
  13. you need to lose that chip off your shoulder. Thaksin didn't piss off tourists and anyone who told you he did is mistaken. The economy was booming under Thaksin. If not being able to get a drink in the afternoon is such a problem for you I suggest you seek help..........or a bar that does sell alcohol in the afternoons. It not that there is a shortage of them. You seem confused also whether you're a tourist or a resident.
  14. There's irony for you right there. Thailand, possibly the most overtly racist country I know complaining about racism.
  15. dont all very rich people get that? Isn't being able to pay for the best (including medical treatment) one of the perks of being rich? Isn't that what seperates the lives of the wealthy from the lives of everyone else?
  16. I'm not going to get into this... It was a massive oever-reaction the purpose of which will come out eventually. As for your suggestion "Tell the people who died last time around it is a scam".........that would be a little difficult. Firstly, you dont actually know what the cause of anyones death really was and I haven't quite mastered speaking to the dead yet.
  17. when Thais are paid the same as falangs you'll have my support on that one. Util then dont be stingy, you can afford it......clearly.
  18. stopping, getting out of your vehicle and walking to a nearby bush is not quite the same as taking your wiener out while hanging off the end of a moving vehicle and urinating in the street with zero regard for who might see you. You dont see the difference? Really?
  19. I wasn't just referring to University Educated Thais. The expat community who operate as "teachers" fall way below acceptable standards too. They get away with it here though because they are foreigners. Filipinas too, they are lauded by Thais as great English tutors but their spelling and their grammar is generally poor. its no wonder generation after generation grow up with just a rudimentary education - the saddest part is nobody of any importance or authority cares. It's easy to see why provincial, poor farming families don't consider having an education is a priority.....to them it isn't one. But in the cities something must be done - Thailand needs to decide if it wants to remain predominantly feudal or be able to compete commercially on an even footing other countries from around the world. It will take a very brave leader to implement the latter.
  20. Quite. I think that famous drawing of the evolution of man from ape to modern day homo sapien is now well and truly in reverse.
  21. words fail me, really. How does someone like this successfully operate in the real world?
  22. Having a degree doesn't make you a good teacher, There are plenty of teachers with degrees who are bad at their job. One of the underlying issues in Thailand is a general low level of education and the fact that that is acceptable. The value of a good education hasn't been grasped yet here.
  23. make him a better human being? It'll make him think twice before he does it again. If there is no punishment there is no deterrent and chaos reigns. It's why we have laws, to control the masses.
