Why do you want to live so long?
"Being happy and relaxed is one of the most efficient way to remain in good health. But happy people with solid social networks usually live longer.".... Well said and yes, genetics plays a big part. Keeping your mind active everyday is a must as well as physical activity. Look at many in the entertainment industry. Tony Bennett lived to something like 97. SO MANY rock and rollers still going strong at, or near age 80 like McCartney, Jagger and Richards. Take care of yourself, stay away from foolish people and be happy. That will gain you a lot of extra years.

Do you think (most) financially struggling western retirees are stupid for not retiring abroad?
"Most people retiring in Thailand are in a way or another, deep down inside, sad and lonely individuals".... WOW! QUITE a statement. Of course this is just your opinion so it holds no value.

And you aren't NEWTON mister "I only eat one mean a day". SO MANY doctors would tell you that isn't healthy but since you are a know-it-all.... carry on. Keep believing you know better. Good luck to you.

Ozempic - Anyone here tried it?
Overweight and obese are two totally different things. Of course, since you are an expert and a physician you know it all. Right?

Ozempic - Anyone here tried it?
Don't equate a person's weight with their health. Just because a person carries a few extra pounds doesn't necessarily mean they aren't healthy. I have a friend who is about 30 - 40 pounds overweight BUT he has low cholesterol, perfect heart rate and can outrun most of us.

Ozempic - Anyone here tried it?
I think that's what I just alluded to (eating healthy). You can change your diet all you want but if you don't exercise much then the weight won't disappear very quickly. It's the combination of the two that get the best results. It isn't 90% diet tho. Closer to 60-40%.

Ozempic - Anyone here tried it?
I asked my doctor about these types of weight loss pills just last week. I gained about 15 pounds in the last year as I had severe hip pain that ended with a hip replacement. I had been a couch potato for about 10 months. I've been back to the gym 5 times a week but the weight isn't dropping thus my inquiry about weight loss pills. She didn't like the idea due to side effects. I told her what my diet consisted of (always been very healthy) so she suggested avoiding Ozempic or anything else and just continue going to the gym.

Being a loner in retirement
"Only when the money you gave them runs out before you die , there will be nothing left .".... NO! It's an official contract that they will pay you a monthly amount even if you live to be 120 years old. After about 15 years it's break-even with the money you gave them. If you die before 15 years then YES they keep the money. If you live another 50 years they are obligated to keep paying you every month. "you give them nearly all your money ?".... you give them whatever amount you want and based on the amount the monthly payments are determined. "That company wins . "..... Yes, if you die before 15 years then the company 'wins'. However, if you live a lot longer then YOU win. "Some tax collectors might look at those payments as income"..... yes, it's considered taxable income. However, the way I have things set up I won't hit the threshold to pay taxes. I planned this all 20 years before I retired. I pay zero taxes and am debt free. "Or what is left with you is again going to the wrong hands.".... you set up a will to give to charity or any other entity you want the other money to go to.

Being a loner in retirement
Hi FlorC. An annuity is something you buy from an insurance company usually. You give them a certain amount of money that you want to invest and in turn they give you monthly distributions for either a set period of time or for your lifetime. When you die the payments obviously stop. But there are variations. When you die you can continue the payments to another for a 5 or 10 year period (as an example). For me I don't want to leave much to other when I leave this Earth simply because they don't deserve anything from me. Simple as that. So, my annuity pays me each month until I die. If I die next year or 30 years from now, I'm guaranteed a check. Google "Immediate Annuities" and it'll give you several companies to check out and a calculator that you plug in your age and amount you want to invest/give them and it will tell you how much you'll receive for the rest of your life. It's worth checking out. Good luck.

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
"they should only be able to tax money earnt from Thailand not savings etc that were/are earned in other countries"...... Don't be so sure. They can create a new tax category that will allow them to tax anything they want. Currently the agreement with the US does not allow double taxation on income BUT that doesn't mean they can't create a new tax category for money transferred into the country. At that point, ATM withdrawals would be the only alternative to avoid taxation as they can't track those.

The World Bank isn't credible. Corruption thru and thru just like the World Health Organization in my opinion.

Two Thai air force planes to evacuate Thai workers from Israel on Sunday
Why did it take so long to start the evacuation? Two planes? Really? Is that all they can come up with?
