Yes, VERY suspicious. You never need to use a credit card to open a GMAIL acct. You've been hacked. As an aside, I received a note today from GMAIL that any acct you haven't used in 2 years will be deleted starting in September. So, anyone who has a dormant GMAIL acct that doesn't want it deleted then you need to use it soon.

Widespread online scams pose daunting challenge to Thai authorities
HuskerDo2 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is happening world-wide. Too many people spend their days online or on social media. The world was far better without Social Media, Twitter, Facebook and all the rest that keep people planted in front of a screen all day rather than interacting with people face to face. Unfortunate. As I've said many times, I'm glad I was born when I was as I don't want to see what this world has turned into 30 years from now. Young people will never understand how great life was in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Even most of the 80's. Unfortunately, those days will never return. Too bad for today's youth.- 13 replies

"There were signs of a fight in the house with an eight-inch fruit paring knife"... it's absolutely nuts what this world is turning into. Attacking someone, let alone with an 8 inch knife, for simply turning off the wi-fi is off the charts insane.

Is there a Sugar Mama anywhere in my future? I already know the answer. A guy can dream tho can't he?

Thanks. I'm expecting a speedy recovery. I have an excellent surgeon. A friend's husband used this surgeon, and he was back to work in under 2 weeks and he's a pharmacist and on his feet all day. Was your surgery from the front, side or back? Mine is anterior (front) and that's supposed to be the quickest healing.

"given a hand pat down and the young man felt the rivets on my jeans and said, Oh I can feel your hip.".... that's hilarious. It's hard to find good/intelligent help these days. Thanks for the chuckle.

Inside the femur is where they will place the piece of titanium and then they will attach a ceramic ball to the top of it to be inserted into the hip joint that will have some sort of strong plastic liner placed into it. I asked "why plastic?" and I was told that this type of plastic won't wear out in my lifetime so I'm happy. It's interesting that yours has never set off an alarm. Hopefully I'll be that lucky but doubt I will be. Did you experience much swelling or pain from the surgery?

Thanks John. I knew about not flying for a while. Not sure why that's an issue. Sitting at home in my recliner or couch isn't any different than sitting in an airport seat.
-
I'll be getting a hip replacement next week and the other side 2 months later. I was told the titanium in the joint will set off the scanners at the airport. I know in the US it isn't a big deal as so many people have had hip replacements the airport staff can quickly identify what is setting off the scanner alarms. However, I don't know about the airports in Thailand and Philippines. Does anyone know if it'll be a big hassle getting thru the airport scanners there or does the airport staff understand about hip replacements and the associated titanium? Thanks all!!

Outgoing Thai PM found guilty of neglect of duty over PM2.5 pollution
HuskerDo2 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Nothing will come of it. Not even a slap on the hand. These guys, just like their predecessors, don't have enough common sense, let alone intelligence, to implement the many options at their disposal to address the nasty choking air there. Just there to collect a paycheck I guess. Maybe they should tie their paychecks directly to the % the air quality improves every year. I'm sure that will motivate them to do their jobs. No improvement in air quality = no paycheck. -

Tell your wife that if things don't change you will leave her and then she won't be able to pay for the school your child attends. It will be a lose-lose for HER.- 224 replies

Not at all true. Maybe where you live but not where I live. I go to the bank every 2 weeks to get the cash I'll need and have 3 - 4 months of cash at home in case of an emergency. I have yet to run into a situation where cash won't be accepted. If that ever happened I'll simply stroll another block or so and find someone who has no issue with cash but to this point that has never happened and I don't think it ever will anywhere near where I live. "both have their uses and ideal times for use where as at other times one method is less convenient than another".... I agree but convenience is never an issue for me so I use cash 90% of the time. "My argument is more against those cherry-picking and making up ridiculous excuses against cashless methods of payment while completely ignoring the pit-falls of the cash system they prefer"..... it matters not which one any given person prefers or their reasons for it. You just need to accept that they think differently than you and feel more comfortable using one mode of payment versus the other. It's simple. It's called choice.

"It seems like just an excuse to be stubborn because you think you are being 'forced' to do something... so you look for arguments not to use such methods"....... I couldn't disagree more Richard. Firstly I have never watched NetFlix, Prime, Hulu. I have regular cable. That's all I need. I don't need to follow the crowd and watch all the current streaming shows as they don't interest me. I've never been one to follow the crown and watch/do what everyone else does. There are far too many "followers" in the world. In regards to the "stubborn" comment...... that same argument could be made towards people who insist everyone comply with the new technology in the world. By insisting everyone convert and accept digital money transfers are forgetting about cyber crime and hacking and in a country like Thailand your bank won't reimburse you if your acct is drained. In 10 years I might rethink the situation if it's safe. Right now it's not. The other comments about people out in the provinces and vendors at the markets rather wanting cash is spot on. Both cash and the new digital technology can co-exist so why not let it? But be careful. If the day ever comes when it's a totally cashless society you are at the mercy of technology to be able to live.

"Unnecessary baggage".... I still can't get over that ugly comment. You young folks are supposed to be the ones pushing for an inclusive and fair society but apparently in your case that only applies to people who are like you I guess. To heck with the older generation or people who like to do things the way they have for decades. They don't want to change and shouldn't be forced to. You are an unfortunate human being at best.

Should be enshrined at Ripley's Believe it or Not. -
Wow! Unfortunate comment. You sound like a young know-it-all who thinks "their way" and the way that young people do things should be the "rule" for everyone. "Unnecessary baggage"....... You have such a strange way at looking at people who do things differently than you. That "Unnecessary baggage" you refer to are the ones that paved the way for you to be able to live the life you want and none of them are talking about you in such a nasty manner. Show some respect to people who like to live their lives the way they feel comfortable without your judgement. "Unnecessary baggage".... absolutely sad comment. No human should be considered such a thing no matter their ago just because they have done things a certain way since before you were born and don't want to change just for the sake of change.

Is it really important if someone "ripped off" a certain type of music from another country. Good music is good music regardless as to when it comes from. As far as the comment "bastardising our language" from above...... does it really matter if Americans speak a tad differently from the Brits? It IS a different country after all. I think the travesty is in how young people in the US speak today. It's like they never went to school. Poor pronunciation, poor enunciation, poor grammar, using slang and worse "street slang" makes them not understandable. America is in decline for so many reasons. I'm glad I was born when I was as I don't want to see this world 30 years from now. If you think it's a mess now..... just wait.

You get what you pay for. "Cheap" and "Fast" don't go together these days if you are looking for a safe, reliable way to ship things. If it's a one-time thing then pay DHL. That way you can track it and can be assured that it'll get to its destination on time.

No. The way you do it is to make it a 2 week contest. Whomever catches the most rats gets a prize of 20,000 baht in addition to the 20/per rat. 2nd place gets 12,000. Third place 6,000. Fourth place 3,000 and 5th place 1,000. After that require all trash to be places in secure bins and those that don't comply get a hefty fine. Florida has a similar system to get rid of the pythons in the Everglades and Texas has an annual contest to get rid of rattlesnakes. It would also work in Thailand IF people really wanted it to.
