This doesn't address the fundamental issue that a large proportion of Thai farmers is tenant farmers, paying typically half their income to some rich landlord. What is needed is fundamental land reform with redistribution from the (often obscenely) wealthy landowners to the actual farmers.

Investment trusts (closed ended UK funds) are apparently "Complex or Leveraged Exchange Traded Product" - at least according to Interactive Brokers. A couple of days ago they blocked me from trading most of my trusts. This came totally out of the blue. (Yes, technically investment trusts are leveraged, but the level of borrowing is minuscule, perhaps 5% or so. They're much more akin to regular mutual funds than something like leveraged 3x ETFs.) I discovered I could apply for permission to trade Complex or Leveraged Exchange Traded Products, but was rejected as unqualified, despite my having been investing in them for 40 years. So, a couple of questions: (1) Has anyone else been caught up like this with Interactive Brokers and found a way to get trading permission restored? (2) Is this just an IBKR thing? Or are other American brokers similarly blocking trading in investment trusts? Thanks

Not really. The contents of the index change frequently as bonds reach maturity and are reinvested - potentially with lower returns. A bond index fund will not provide the sort of high fixed return over two years that the OP is seeking.

True. But how much faith would any rational person place in a bank licensed in Lithuania? It's hardly noted for its financial services or top notch regulation. The mere fact that the Bank of England doesn't see fit to licence it (at least so far) is highly significant. And please don't ignore the multiple problems with its financial accounts and its poor handling of the victims of sophisticated scams.

It's probably worth noting that the Bank of England has very serious concerns about Revolut and hasn't issued it with a banking licence three years after its first applying. However it would be simpler and safer to open fixed deposit accounts with a bank or banks. The value of a fixed deposit account can't fall below the amount of money you put in. Bonds, however, can lose value meaning you might not have sufficient value to maintain the visa.
