  1. However, neither is as unbalanced as The Torygraph. I just would like to see a bit of variety and balance, rather than just the relentless hard right wing reports that are being pushed by this site.
  2. I'm not a person running this site.
  3. Why are the people running this site so keen on pushing articles from The Daily Telegraph - a notoriously right wing and bigoted publication? How about balancing it with reports from The Guardian and Independent?
  4. You've been told wrong. There are at least 5 mosques in Tokyo which also serve as community centres, and Muslims regularly congregate there. Elsewhere in Japan there are over 100 mosques.
  5. As for me, I am hoping never to hear another word from his mouth, unless it's his pleading he's guilty and being sent to gaol for the rest of his shabby life.
  6. I wonder if this is the same Nathaniel Benson who was given a 17-month jail term for breaking into his ex-partner's home and biting her nose. The name, age and location all seem to match. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/16309199.nathaniel-benson-39-given-17-month-jail-term-breaking-ex-partners-home-biting-nose/ If it is the same individual he also has a previous conviction for domestic violence, having been convicted of assaulting a long-term former partner by punching her to the head and back in 2014. Sounds like a lovely guy.
  7. No. FATCA is one way sharing; the USA doesn't share information out through FATCA.
  8. Joe Locke, who was in Heartstoppers and is gay in real life is also in Agatha All Along in the role of "Teen". Two episodes broadcast so far. At one point he gets a 'phone call from "boyf". Not sure whether the gay content will go any further than that.
  9. Yes. Can't remember exactly what I used. Maybe a Thai credit card statement, or a UK bank statement, or my Thai driving licence. Any of these is possible. The one thing I recall I could not do is get my bank to provide me with a statement for my savings account with an address.
  10. Standard Bank. They're a South African bank and have branches in both Jersey and Isle of Man. (I use Isle of Man.) The account is called "Optimum". https://international.standardbank.com/international/personal/products-and-services/bank/international-bank-accounts/optimum-bank-account
  11. The whole point of CRS is that the information is provided automatically by financial institutions. No need to contact other countries. Information certain to be genuine.
  12. That's a red herring. CRS is not specific to Thailand, and most countries seek to tax residents' offshore income.
  13. Why not move to an offshore account, then? Banks in Jersey and the Isle of Man are connected to the UK banking systems (e.g. BACS, CHAPS) and the accounts work pretty much the same way as UK accounts. With my account, there is no annual fee if I keep a minimum average balance of £5,000. I do, however, have to pay a fee for a debit card. This covers delivery of the card by DHL.
  14. Yes. That's why it doesn't happen, and isn't going to happen. The reporting is set up such that a country can only receive data on its own nationals and residents. And those data are very limited to cash balances and consolidated income. It's all designed to stop people hiding their money and investments offshore and so avoiding tax.
  15. And on a personal note, when I was working in Tokyo I had a Muslim partner.
  16. They have a New Zealand politician in their house or car? If it's a surprise it sounds like he's breaking and entering illegally. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Mark
  17. Isn't this even worse in the United States? Go to a supermarket and often surprise taxes are added - state sales tax, county sales tax. No clear pricing.
  18. I thought he was more of a "grab them by the pussy" guy than someone who just wanted a little stroke.
  19. I wouldn't bother. It may be five yearly extensions, but you still have to go to hell Immigration every year so they can check you still meet the eligibility criteria.
  20. Mountjaro is not available in Thailand. Rybelsus and Ozempic are, but intermittently.
  21. What ludicrously biased reporting. Nothing tragic about it. One should celebrate that 9 Hezbollah terrorists have died, and be heartened that "fatalities are expected to rise significantly". The "thousands injured" is just a bonus. This all makes Israeli civilians just that little bit safer.
  22. The USA-Thailand DTA does allow for the sharing of information, however, the information is shared upon request (not automatic) and must be specific to a tax investigation or enforcement issue.
  23. Am I right in believing (1) that the United States is not party to CRS, (2) FATCA information only flowed in one direction - from Thailand to the United States, meaning (3) the Thai tax authorities know nothing about residents' income arising in the United States. This (if correct) would mean a massive loophole.
  24. Book a tour? private car with driver? Probably your only options. There used to be an infrequent songthaew from Pak Chong to the National Park. Don't know if is still running.
  25. That used to be the case, but Nationwide recently changed to allow you to use its app for authentication, so a UK 'phone number may not be necessary.
