    Well, Bangkok Bank at least has a branch in New York, which the other banks do not have, but I have seen evidence of non-professionalism when dealing with them back when they were the only bank which could accept American Social Security. To be fair, NO BANK wants to deal with the onerous FBAR reporting that the USA forces on foreign banks which open accounts for Americans. Just another example of overreach.

    Don’t take the chance. If you live in Thailand, you are obviously aware of how easy it is to go to jail here.

    Insurance is an amazing scam in Thailand and other SE Asian countries. Prices for care are far lower than in America, yet you can’t get insured for a reasonable price if you are above a certain age. When you are paying absurd premiums and have no guarantee that you can collect on a claim, that negates any cost advantage of living here. The tax windfall from cannabis should be used to fund a national healthcare program that foreigners can buy into.

    I understand your feelings but I have just learned to ignore it over the past eight years. I expect to be relocating to Cambodia as soon as my Thai GF dumps me. It’s coming, because the entire Thai culture is looking for a better deal. This is not the place to live if you are looking for sincerity and true love.

    Totally a Thai thing. These pampered government functionaries, complain about the very thing that makes their incomes possible. Without expats, there would be no need for the vastly inflated work force that makes up the Immigration department. We provide these complaining malcontents with JOBS and their lack of understanding of simple economics prevents them from seeing the big picture.

    I live in Pattaya, about two city blocks from Immigration. I used the online service once, with good results. Immigration is so close that I prefer to do it in person. It’s difficult to trust technology here in the Kingdom.

    There has not been ONE documented case of anyone providing false documents for SS and other income sources. Most of them have identity markers which are difficult or impossible to counterfeit, not to mention, illegal.

    I am 73, so I am definitely a retiree. I’ve lived here in Thailand for eight years, but want to make a move. Tired of the hassles involved in getting a visa renewal. Thanks for your answer. The YT video could well have been talking about those under 55.
