  1. Time for the restoration of the Shinawatra dynasty.
  2. Don’t take the chance. If you live in Thailand, you are obviously aware of how easy it is to go to jail here.
  3. Insurance is an amazing scam in Thailand and other SE Asian countries. Prices for care are far lower than in America, yet you can’t get insured for a reasonable price if you are above a certain age. When you are paying absurd premiums and have no guarantee that you can collect on a claim, that negates any cost advantage of living here. The tax windfall from cannabis should be used to fund a national healthcare program that foreigners can buy into.
  4. Better beer is the goal. The two largest brewers do not need protectionist policies to protect their sales.
  5. I have been advised that usually no more are available and those who have them are not giving them up. Are there commencial alternatives available? General mail service does not seem to be reliable. Any advice appreciated
  6. The best and most accurate post on this thread. Bravo, mate!!!
  7. I understand your feelings but I have just learned to ignore it over the past eight years. I expect to be relocating to Cambodia as soon as my Thai GF dumps me. It’s coming, because the entire Thai culture is looking for a better deal. This is not the place to live if you are looking for sincerity and true love.
  8. Totally a Thai thing. These pampered government functionaries, complain about the very thing that makes their incomes possible. Without expats, there would be no need for the vastly inflated work force that makes up the Immigration department. We provide these complaining malcontents with JOBS and their lack of understanding of simple economics prevents them from seeing the big picture.
  9. They LOVE to exacerbate misery. They seem to enjoy it. Karma awaits.
  10. It’s always “unfair” when it happens to THEM. Never a thought given to their victims.
  11. I live in Pattaya, about two city blocks from Immigration. I used the online service once, with good results. Immigration is so close that I prefer to do it in person. It’s difficult to trust technology here in the Kingdom.
  12. Here’s a link to the video. Obviously, the information given is not correct unless they have changed the requirements.
  13. NORGESIC works well. It is paracetamol mixed with a mild muscle relaxer.
  14. There has not been ONE documented case of anyone providing false documents for SS and other income sources. Most of them have identity markers which are difficult or impossible to counterfeit, not to mention, illegal.
  15. I am 73, so I am definitely a retiree. I’ve lived here in Thailand for eight years, but want to make a move. Tired of the hassles involved in getting a visa renewal. Thanks for your answer. The YT video could well have been talking about those under 55.
  16. I noticed a video on YouTube which mentioned a police report as one of the qualifiers for a Cambodian ER visa. Is this done “in country” or will I have to provide documentation from police in the United States?
  17. They weren’t. They are a POSSESSION of the United States. The citizens of that country do not vote. That should have been the status granted to the Confederate states after the war.
  18. Easiest visa terms in Southeast Asia. No 90 day reports and as long as you have about 300 USD a year to buy a visa, you don’t have to worry about staying in the country. Lots of improvements have been made over the past 20 years. The fact that it is a dictatorship hardly seems to matter to those who live there. There is less hassle to live in Cambodia than in ANY part of Asia. I am astounded at the prejudice aimed at Cambodia when it is clearly the next frontier for retirees. Thailand is pricing itself out of the market.
  19. The Civil War established that states DO NOT have the right to secede. One of the good things, along with the abolition of slavery, that came out of that war. Otherwise, it was an unnecessary loss of life on a grand scale. I come from a southern state and in my opinion, the Confederate states should have permanently lost the right to vote. That hasn’t seemed to hurt Puerto Rico.
  20. Hoping for a Royal pardon. It would seem likely.
  21. Not necessarily. I get statements from Social Security, Alabama State Teacher’s Retirement and my TIAA annuity every year. Surely IO could employ at least ONE person who could examine these documents. They simply love bureaucracy so much that they need tons of unnecessary documentation that costs a fortune and makes the process vague and murky. It’s an old game called “showing the farang who’s boss”.
  22. A prize-winning post, stating the obvious. I am always amazed when I happen upon an IO worker who can read plain English. The requirements are obviously “make work” projects to justify their large work force and the bank requirements are a gift to the poorly-run banks in the country. The Embassies should have just guaranteed confirmation. They can’t be held responsible because they have diplomatic immunity.
  23. I used to stay at my girlfriend’s apartment in Bangkok. When I asked her if she was going to submit a report to Immigration, she just laughed. Her contempt for the police and Immigration were something to behold. Her words: “my guests are none of anyone’s business but mine.” I really liked her attitude.
  24. Spot on observation. Cambodia is chomping at the bit to receive those who lack the million-plus dollars to stay in the Kingdom. Someday soon, the Thais will have Thailand all to themselves.
