Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)

GENEVA (12 June 2024) – Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the military operations and attacks in Gaza since 7 October 2023, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, said in a new report today. The Commission also found that Palestinian armed groups are responsible for war crimes committed in Israel. The Commission’s report – the UN’s first in-depth investigation of the events that took place on and since 7 October 2023 – is based on interviews with victims and witnesses conducted remotely and during a mission to Türkiye and Egypt, thousands of open-source items verified through advanced forensic analysis, hundreds of submissions, satellite imagery and forensic medical reports. Israel obstructed the Commission’s investigations and prevented its access to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. “It is imperative that all those who have committed crimes be held accountable,” said Navi Pillay, Chair of the Commission. “The only way to stop the recurring cycles of violence, including aggression and retribution by both sides, is to ensure strict adherence to international law.” https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/06/israeli-authorities-palestinian-armed-groups-are-responsible-war-crimes?sub-site=HRC -

Trying to smear me as Herr Jeff, think you need to crawl back under your anti- German rock, 80 odd years out of date Germany’s Blanket Support for Israel Has Undermined Its Utility as a Middle East Mediator Germany has been among Israel's strongest supporters since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, providing both diplomatic backing and significant arms transfers. https://www.stimson.org/2024/germanys-blanket-support-for-israel-has-undermined-its-utility-as-a-middle-east-mediator/ -

World leaders at Gaza aid conference urge Israel, Hamas to back ceasefire World leaders at a conference on humanitarian aid for Gaza called on both Israel and Hamas to back a ceasefire proposal endorsed at the UN Security Council, saying it is the best way to alleviate suffering. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told him that he is committed to getting the proposal “across the finish line.” https://www.aljazeera.com/program/newsfeed/2024/6/11/world-leaders-at-gaza-aid-conference-urge-israel-hamas-to-back-ceasefire -

Don't you mean the hatred of Israeli's rather than Jews, not all Jews support Israel as can be seen by the amount of Jews on pro-Palestinian marches. -

More grave violations against children were committed in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel than anywhere else in the world last year, according to a UN report due to be published this week. The report on children and armed conflict, which has been seen by the Guardian, verified more cases of war crimes against children in the occupied territories and Israel than anywhere else, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Somalia, Nigeria and Sudan. “Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory presents an unprecedented scale and intensity of grave violations against children,” the report said. https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/11/un-report-violations-against-children-gaza-west-bank-israel -
The prospect of a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas appears to be rapidly receding after the far-right Israeli cabinet member Bezalel Smotrich – on whom Benjamin Netanyahu is now reliant after the resignations of more moderate ministers at the weekend – said he would oppose a deal. Smotrich’s comments, during a Knesset committee meeting, came amid the fallout from the resignation of the former army chief of staff Benny Gantz from the war cabinet. Gantz quit on the same weekend that Israel rescued four Israeli hostages held in Gaza in an operation that Gaza’s health ministry said killed more than 270 Palestinians and injured hundreds more. The departure of Gantz, the leader of the centre-right National Unity party, leaves Netanyahu with enough seats in his coalition but has made him even more reliant on the support of far-right allies including Smotrich, the finance minister, and Itamar Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, who have repeatedly threatened to walk away over any deal for a ceasefire in exchange for hostages. https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/10/israel-hostage-deal-far-right-israeli-minister-signals-opposition

I wonder why they do that? 🥱 -
What on earth are the US thinking here, Israel clearly want no part of this yet the US claim they are on board with the proposal. What a waste of time and effort by the negotiators, this should never have been put to the UNSC unless Israel was committed to it, clearly from the comments of the Israeli representative they have no wish to end this war without a total Hamas capitulation.

You could be a spokesperson for the IDF with remarks like that. If Gantz is a Hamas supporter his military career says otherwise: Military career Gantz was drafted into the IDF in 1977. He volunteered as a paratrooper in the Paratroopers Brigade. His first mission as a young conscript in 1977 was as part of the security detail for Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's visit to Israel. As a paratrooper, he fought in Operation Litani in March 1978 and also participated in a June 1978 raid against a Fatah training base in Lebanon. In 1979, Gantz became an officer after completing Officer Candidate School. He returned to the Paratroopers Brigade and served as a platoon leader and company commander, completed a course in the U.S. Army Special Forces, and fought in the First Lebanon War. Later on, he led 890 "Efe" (Echis) paratroop battalion in counter-guerrilla operations in the South Lebanon security zone. In 1991, he commanded the commando unit that was on the ground in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for 36 hours, securing the Operation Solomon airlift of 14,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel. He served in senior command positions during the Second Intifada and Second Lebanon War. In the course of his military career, Gantz served as commander of the Shaldag Unit in the Israeli Air Force; commander of the 35th Paratroopers Brigade; commander of the Reserves Division in the Northern Command; commander of the Lebanon Liaison Unit; commander of the Judea and Samaria Division in 2000, before becoming the commander of the Israeli Northern Command in 2001; and as Israel's military attaché in the United States from 2005 until 2009, before becoming the deputy chief of the General Staff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_Gantz -

CNN’s Paula Hancocks takes a look at the deadly impact of Israel’s hostage rescue operation in Gaza. Gaza's health ministry says at least 274 Palestinians were killed in the operation and hundreds were wounded. The Israel Defense Forces disputes those numbers, saying it estimates the casualties were “under 100.” CNN cannot independently verify death tolls from the enclave due to the lack of international media access. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/09/world/video/israeli-hostages-hamas-gaza-deaths-hancocks-pkg-nr-digvid -
