  1. Thank you so much, this will continue to spur my Chinese language learning attempts. Agreed about the unlikelihood of a great Tagalog writer, Filipinos are vey witty but they have about as much urge to write and read as Thais have the urge to make yogurt.
  2. Mission low carb tortilla. Mixed minced chicken with egg, thai bread crumbs, spring onion, Ketjap Manis, Korean chili sauce, salt, peper and Dijon Mustard, slapped it thinly on the tortilla and fried it meat down for 3 minutes in olive oil. Brushed the top with the olive oil and then flipped it. Garnished it with Gouda cheese, folded it in the middle and ate it like a sandwich. With Guava juice and water.
  3. I had some bad experiences with Air Asia refunding tickets, you had to run after them and it took weeks. It is about risk manageent, I would rather pay 16 dollars and be done with it in 20 minutes.
  4. Hopefully. Yes, man and wife do everything for the children and they would look after an autistic child, quite true. It is not so rare though that children then have to look after their own frail and sick parents, or indeed that the spouses, husband or wife, stray and leave for another partner which is now the case in 50 per cent or so cases. The point is that the family can exist because it is a short lived and transient organism. When we speak of "family" there is no such thing really, but instead a chain of constant never ending families that are brought into existence beause of the sexual urge and the urge to procreate. The family affects to be an altruistic model, but in essence it is based on the most selfish, egotistical and fleeting urges, the urge to have sex and to procreate. Socialism may be altruistic but it seems to lack the same biological rationale and survival of the species imperative which the family relies on. Maybe that is why socialism has poven considerably less successful than the family?
  5. Indeed, translations never do justice, as anyone who's read Nietzsche in the original and then the cartoonish translations will confirm. This is part of the reason why people like Sloterdijk do not get the prize, few could appreciate the genius of his word craft in translation. I guess we have to learn all the major langages ourselves. But what if a great Tagalog writer comes along? We'd be screwed again.
  6. There is a human element to it all, for sure. Especially if Trump comes to power I would be quite concerned about what he does. Having said that, even he seems to be a rational person. And his military advisers surely are and would advise what it would mean to strike wth a nuclear missile at Russia, namely the death of hundreds of thousands of Americans and the destruction of entire US cities. Do you remember when Trump was playing word games with China and that US general called China and assured them, no matter what happens America will not attack? I think the systems in place are now too rational, I can not see even the Necon lunatics being successful in unleashing war on Russia. America is like a bully, quick to kick around smaller nations, but when they know they can get a bloody nose themselves America pulls its tail in rather quickly. Even Tump did with North Korea.
  7. You are right of course. A bit of fame always helps with these prizes. But sometimes the Nobel Committee digs deep, who had heard of Gao Xingjian and Soul Mountain before his Nobel Prize? But it was of course a politically motivated prize, like so often. Peter Sloterdijk is perhaps the greatest thinker of our time, but he does not deliver political brownie points for the prize jury.
  8. Depends what you mean by best "Redbox" near Maya and "Chef's Table" in San Kamphaeng have excellent modern cuisine if you want to drop 10000 or 15000 Baht for two people. Rock Me Burger has the best burgers in the world for 600 or 800 Baht for two people. Welladee in Mae Rim is superb higher quality Thai, at maybe 1500 or 2000 Baht for two. Baan Landai is excellent too, if you can get a table, also at 1500 to 2000 for two. House by Ginger the same. Huang He is best for braised beef noodles Mala Style with gyoza Duke's has the best Pizza. There's so many great restaurants in Chiang Mai, impossible to just pick one.
  9. Why would I bother if I can go to Laos immigration and can pay in Baht?
  10. How is it easier to go to a currency exchange, get USD with Euros, when you live in Thailand, have Baht and the Laos immigration accepts Baht?
  11. Why? More sanctions? Lol.
  12. I completely agree with this. Yes, Dylan has mastery in the turn of phrase, and the little ditties can be fun to read, but what great ideas and thoughts has he ever come up with that were not derivative? None really. By contrast Peter Sloterdijk is a master of the word and has also come up with great ideas, but will never get the Nobel Prize. There is no justice in the world.
  13. Well, yes. But you see Russia has the means to destroy every single NATO country many times over. The whole planet in fact. Which is why the US is so hyper careful not to attack Russia herself with troops in this war, and why America would not reply if Russia drops a nuclear bomb on Ukraine. Because then America would be in a nuclear conflict with Russa. And Americans want to live. Do you not understand this works both ways?
  14. See, no, that's where you're wrong. Because Americans are not idiots and they would not risk nuclear war with Russia because they would then themselves be in a nuclear conflict with Russia. Does this make any sense to you?
  15. Errrrr, no. Russia, if it wanted to, can drop a nuclear bomb in Ukraine. The US in turn could not respond because it would then risk nuclear annihilation. Therfore, Russia will be the undoubted winner of this conflict. It can not be any other way.
  16. Hundreds of baht on exchanging 50 dollars? Are you quite sure about that?
  17. So dad will leave and find a younger model elsewhere and mom will be bitter and stuck with doing everything including looking after grandma when she gets sick?
  18. There's pretty girls in every single country in the world. But that cute Asian look, you only get that here.
  19. Yes, I did that. It was completely pointless because Laos immigration accept Thai Baht.
  20. Law is reading and English, but it is a lot more than that, particularly for corporate lawyers, but Harris was just a criminal trial lawyer, so indeed one would not expect her to be highly knowledgeable on finance. She does seem squirmy and uncomfortable when she uses that laugh.
  21. Not if your account is in Euro, genius. Not everyone's American.
  22. Harris' voice always sounds insincere and arrogant. Her speaking is not great. The Democrats biggest problem is Trump himself, people are just fascinated by him, positively or negatively. His charisma is off the charts. If he opens the window two hundred news outlets will report it. It's ridiculous almost. He's the Elvis Presley of politics.
  23. You can pay in Baht, no need for US dollars. Make sure you bring Thai baht change for any bus fares.
  24. Why did you just "visit" for 10 years, why did you not live together? And how long were these visits? How do things seem different now? Refusing to change the name, to tell friends she is married and to hang up the photo are not good signs. How would she "prove" she loves you though?
  25. Yes, as a lawyer Harris is undoubtedly intelligent, however, she does not come across that way, the way say Obama came across as very bright the first time you see him. Harris is a poor orator by comparison and lacks charisma. She seems permanently insecure and nervous and high strung. What you say about Trump is only partially true, yes he had a head start with his monied background but he did multiply the money many times over. He is not senile but also highly intelligent. If people want to big up Harris, because she was DA and Senator, ok, but Trump was President of the United States, the highest office in the land. Thiel freaks me out alltogehter, I don't know what he is about. I read Trump asked him for money and he refused. That Thiel chided the founder of LinkedIN for bankrolling law suits against Trump saying he was just making a martyr of Trump. I am not so sure Thiel supports Trump. As for younger Americans enthusing over Kamala, I don't think they are, the're just following the direction given by Charlie XCX, Beyonce and Swift, and it was always clear these people would vote Democrat anyway. But a good 42 per cent of Americans are over the age of 45, this demographic will decide the election, not 18 year olds. At this point it would not be accurate to say that Harris will win, Trump is floundering, and so on, that is just wishful thinking I would suggest.
