Secretary Baker in 1990 No extension of NATO "one inch to the east" what could go wrong?
Inflation is an issue, as in the West, but the stellar GDP growth rate is not due to military spending. Russia is not a war economy where all production is geared to produce military materiel. That's just not the case. It's overwhelmingly a civilian economy.

ICE vs EV, the debate thread
You can't trust a word Sam Evans says. He's so far up the Electro rabbit hole any objective info that does not fit his EV agenda would hurt his YouTube viewing figures. He's just a Youtuber venting his private prejudice.

Truth bomb: walz older brother is 100% opposed to all his ideology
Yes, a bit like when Russian economic data is posted and not accepted. It's very dumb, I agree.

I have driven the Honda Accord and it's good very fine handling. But the BYD Seal also looks very good on paper I must admit. Just the range thing, I mean why put up with that when you don't have to? And charging for 11 hours? Okay, not to 100% but that kind of sounds sub-optimal.
-
ICE vs EV, the debate thread
Indeed the time it takes to charge is a major issue with EVs, the quite excellent on paper BYD Seal apparently needs 11 hours plus charging. Ouch. I've driven new EVs in Thailand too. The reason top speed is important is for overtaking, torque yes, but the speed limit in Thailand is not exactly well enforced, people routinely exceed the limit. But I agree on the importance of torque, I would want an EV with high ground clearance and good torque, an SUV. If I would ever get an EV.

It's really good actually...for an EV. 354 miles... But it's the same issue, once the 354 miles are done, no petrol station and you have to find a charging station.

On paper looks like a very good deal. Shame about the range issue.

3.8, yes that's what I saw. Very good. But I see it has issues with the user interface, you get some voice telling you off if you drive 1 km too fast. Is that true?

Secretary Baker in 1990 No extension of NATO "one inch to the east" what could go wrong?
Politically he's a genius, in terms of actions. For Russia to outperform the USA, German, France and UK in terms of GDP growth two years in a row, is no mean feat. It's not the military expenses that are boosting Russia. It's Putin's spending, as a result of years of austerity Russia had accumulated huge cash reserves. A very wise policy for someone about to embark on a war. Incredibly well planned. Plus, he's winning the war in Ukraine, taking on the entire West by proxy and has Ukraine running to meaningless Kursk out of desperation. He's taking his time, not rushing things. Very patient, he fights the war like a chess player. Victory is assured. Putin has been very impressive in Ukraine. However, his whole performance has been superb, looking at all the difficulties Putin had to face since the 1990s to now.

Well, you can take the 247 lb.-ft of torque from Honda's new 4th-generation two-motor hybrid system, the 2023 Accord hybrid does 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, which is excellent. The Honda Accord is widely considered one of the most powerful mid level sedans. Its handling is superb,. What EV is this that does 0.60 in 3.8 seconds?

Trump Intensifies Attacks on Harris as Race Heats Up
I think we have already established how Trump supporter RFJ Jr has a far more impressive academic list of achievements than Kamala Harris, or indeed her supporters.

Indeed. That's what is so tragic. The Ukraine war never had to happen. Russia made very clear it wanted to be at the table, it helped US space exploration, it implemented Western economic reforms, it faciliated German unification. Russia extended its hand in friendship. Only to get a slap in the face. For years the West had promised Russia it would be included in the post 1989 reshaping of the security architecture. But it was all deception and lies. If they had acted in good faith and given Russia a seat at the table the Ukraine war would never have happened.

You do make me laugh..hahaha, Putin is an "incompetent leader". That's hilarious. Not only has Putin ensured Russia's economy is outperforming that of the USA, UK, France and Germany but there is something more important: Putin has seen how the West betrayed Russia and wanted to eliminate Russia as global power by encircling Russia with NATO expansion. He understood the consequences and took remedial action to ensure Russia's future is assured as an independent nation. Neither Germany, France or the UK have achieved that success, having long ago succumbed to their role as vassal states of the US. Russia, however, will hold its culture proud and continue to influence world and local politics on its own terms. Without taking directions from the USA. This is in part due to Putin's genius, but also of course his longevity advantage.

Trump Intensifies Attacks on Harris as Race Heats Up
Quite so, and it is very obvious how she got there. Biden had to choose a woman, and a woman of colour, albeit confusing colour, was preferable to an able white male. For the same reason Harris had to choose a white male, because she is a woman of colour. If Harris were a white male, she would never in a million years have become VP. Harris has some intelligence, becoming DA was probably helped by DEI however you have to pass law school and qualify as a lawyer. But her record as a prosecutor is very poor.

I suppose it is how Nietzsche has said, we only hate that which makes us feel inferior. It has to be fear that fuels the hate.

I can see that from a purely economic perspective a BEV can indeed make sense. If that's the main concern for people, then of course why not.

ICE vs EV, the debate thread
According to Car and Driver, the Honda Accord V6 does 0-60 in 5.6 secs, The MG ZS EV needs 8.3 secs. It seems the Honda Accord V6 is more powerful than most BEVs.

Trump Intensifies Attacks on Harris as Race Heats Up
The Trump vitriol is completely out of control, quite so. We should compare the policies, however, of course Harris has copied most of Trump's policies or wants to pretend she did. Trump offered her a MAGA hat after she started supported fracking. She now also purports to support funding border control, has copied Trump's plan to cancel tax on tips, and supports private health care. Defunding the police? Not anymore. This is probably why this election race is policy devoid. Harris has mostly copied Trump's policies, and to be fair Trump copied her stance on IVF and abortion to some degree, but by no means as shamelessly. But clearly you are right, anti-Trumpers are motivated mostly by vitriolic hate. No idea why they should hate him so.

Rising Political Extremism in East Germany Signals a Deepening Divide
Total drivel. Many parties have tried to change things in Germany, with the net result that they were put on the surveillance list of the local bureau of Germany's domestic intelligence agency, had their funding withdrawn, were boycotted in parliament and in the case of Germany's very own political prisoner Horst Mahler were imprisoned for 10 years for thought crimes. No thanks. To call the AfD, a middle class conservative and patriotic party, a "Nazi" party is just evidence of a total lack of intellectual honesty. You don't need to wish for deportations, you have Horst Mahler who was imprisoned for 10 years in Germany for thought crimes. Intolerable indeed.

ICE vs EV, the debate thread
Yes, so basically you could never drive from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, or take a tour through Thailand with the car without careful planning and calculation as to charging, where are the charging facilities, etc. It's just a headache you don't have a with a Hybrid or ICE. Not saying I do that every day, but it's nice to have that option. It's not just the sensible range arguments though, it's also the more intangible factor "feeling". Even when I see a new Honda Accord it can make my beating heart race faster. However, none of these Chinese BEVs can achieve that. Not sure why that is, but it seems to me the BEV only really appeals to people who are extremely careful with money or environmental people. But BEVs don't speak to the heart. When even a Honda Accord can accomplish that.
-
ICE vs EV, the debate thread
Indeed it's not the driving experience. It's the ability to fuel up at a petrol station whenever I need to. Unlike with a BEV which can't do that. So range, with a Hybrid, is never an issue. But with a BEV it's a headache.

Secretary Baker in 1990 No extension of NATO "one inch to the east" what could go wrong?
You're getting a bit carried away with the frothing at the mouth there. Of course communism has failed and nobody wants it. However, Putin has been the greatest statesmen of our time. He has not only steered Russia through the most difficult challenges, which would have broken any other Western leader but he has ensured Russia can thrive. Her economy now is booming precisely because Putin spent years in austerity to save, to ensure when he launched his war against Ukraine he could buy off the populace and pay for the required expenses. The long game Putin is playing is sheer genius. So is the way he conducts the Ukraine war. He knows, given the economic superiority of Russia, he can just take his time. He does not need to take undue risks, like Ukraine has done out of desperation with Kursk. If Russia doesn't take Pokrovsk before Winter...okay, they'll take it in Spring. There is no rush. Ukraine is spending 38% of GDP on the war, Russia 5.9 % of GDP. Putin's achievements are tremendous and his conduct of the Ukraine war is that of a master chess player. Plus, he knows, should things go sideways he can use nuclear weapons. He can't lose.
