Thailand faces worsening air quality crisis, health warnings issued
lordgrinz replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Haven't seen any reduction in black smoke spewing buses, trucks, etc here in Bangkok, that would be a start. Plus the burning properties should be easy to police as they are not exactly mobile. Seek out the offenders, confiscate vehicles or farms and sell them off to pay for the medical costs from the pollution.- 36 replies

British Man Collides With Pedestrian in Pattaya Big Bike Crash
lordgrinz replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
LMAO....me too, at 185cm I find most bikes to be a little too confined. I just barely fit the SV650x that I recently got rid of, but that was due to being stretched out over the tank to reach the clip-ons. Most of the scooters here have two-step slanted seats too, so makes it even worse, my around the gated-community scooter is a Q-Bix which has a long flat seat so I can stretch out. -
7-Eleven Teams with British Embassy to Boost Thailand Road Safety

Plus the money they could make off of towing, impounding, and ticketing would more than pay for their services. The knock-on effect would be less dead people, less medical costs, safer roads, less congestion, safer for tourism, etc, etc, etc. -

I've read through many Thai Traffic laws/rules, they are not much different from the West, almost identical actually. The only difference appears to be enforcement, of which there is none. It seems like the only time they enforce the written laws is after somebody has an accident, then they place blame using them, but seem to be abhorrent to proactive policing. Joys of living in a 3rd World country. -

More humane to cull them, than to let them roam uncared for all their lives.- 104 replies

7-Eleven Teams with British Embassy to Boost Thailand Road Safety

I saw a grey haired old man (foreigner) once at a national park in Chon Buri, driving a GSXR 1000 with the biggest beer gut I have ever seen with no T-Shirt, and what appeared to be a 19 yr old Thai bar girl attached to his back. To say it looked pathetic was an understatement, but seeing that beer gut hang over both sides of the tank was pure vomit material. -

British Man Electrocuted At New Restaurant In Jomtien

I am scared to death of the wiring here in Thailand, I stay far-far away from it, let the Thai's work on it, I'm not touching any of it. -
Si Racha: Woman Dies at Scene After Collision with 18-Wheeler
lordgrinz replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
I lost count of the number motorcycles that try to overtake me while U-Turning, or overtake/undertake me while I am turning out of a road. They do realize that it is illegal to overtake or undertake within 30 meters of a junction, correct? Trying to pass me on the inside with my blinker is dangerous, but attempting to do so with an18 wheeler is pure suicide, but they do it regularly. -

If I remember the numbers right, 35% drive without a license, so if they did stop those drivers, the roads would become less congested overnight. -

Here in Muang Thong Thani they don't care about yellow lines, red and white curbs or No-Parking signs, and they totally refuse to stop for any STOP signs, forget about crossing in a Zebra crossing, they'll kill you if you dare. It's a free for all here, no police presence, and nobody follows any laws or road rules, they actually deliberately flaunt the laws here. -

Yup, best to stay out of another countries boundaries, even if the fishing there makes you think it's worth the risk. -
A new way to turn right at the intersection, Thai style?
lordgrinz replied to lordgrinz's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I did notice when I travelled from Massachusetts to Florida, that the Florida roads were like your UK B-Class roads, some pretty insane approach speeds, some were 65mph lanes. Though the one thing that blew my mind the most in Florida was some 50 mph intersections with no control lights for turning across oncoming lanes. No lighting on long stretches of 2-lane potholed roads at 65 mph was a little nerve racking, especially late at night, I assume it's because of the enormous distances you have to travel down there. -

Like I've said before, I can show daily videos of insane driving and parking idiocy and that's for just two quick 2km round trip drives to my daughters school. There should be no reason I should see this every day, this video was just a demonstration of the insanity I witness daily. Yet, I spent almost a month back home in April/May, driving in multiple different states, and I can't remember even one act of insane/suicidal road manners on that trip. It was a wakeup call to how bad this country is, and really needs to be fixed, especially if they (Thailand) want a safe place for tourist to travel. -
