  1. It's amazing what thick brown envelopes can do, like magic, the bus is thoroughly inspected and passed.
  2. It will stay in the news for a week or two, then be forgotten like all the other "tragedies", expect no changes, and continued business as usual. You only need to look back at the Zebra crossing issue, nothing has changed!
  3. Since they haven't stated what these "interventions" are, should we assume they are just manipulating the currency as they have been accused of?
  4. So do we use Thai logic/culture and just accept that this was their "fate"? I know I have been fed this BS before, or do Thai's actually plan to do something about the unsafe drivers, vehicles, and attitudes.
  5. I believe they already did a huge change not long ago, that buses with a certain amount of seats could not be older than like 10-15yrs? There was also something about double decker buses being phased out. I don't see how a 54 yr old bus would even be allowed on the streets.
  6. This is Thailand, they don't care about safety, they don't care about kids, they don't care to use logic or commonsense, avarice is their only ambition.
  7. Yeah, one look at vehicles driving down the road here, and you have to wonder what an inspection really is or used for, because it ain't working!
  8. He is nothing but a scapegoat at this point, protecting the greedy owners "face".
  9. It would have been I think somewhere between $350,000-$450,000 payback, or 5 years time working "here" in Thailand for her University, which was a pretty good deal. We decided 5 yrs was pretty short, and worth the savings. But I still think we might have been better to just pay it back and have stayed in the USA.
  10. Under Prayut he was handed I believe a B2 Trillion expenditure, then we barely heard from him for years.
  11. I believe the conversion was 15 years old.
  12. .....and total disregard for safety.
  13. No, she is Thai, owed time to her University here in Thailand for paying for her PhD she got in America.
  14. My wife uses the medical part of our stay here as a positive part of being here, but I choose to look at the fact that I would rather live a healthier life, and not need medical, then to live an unhealthy life and have need medical.
  15. The entire article doesn't state what "both these interventions" are, so what are these "interventions"?
  16. Me and Thailand just don't mesh, I hate it here with a passion. I should have never let my wife come back after finishing her PhD, I should have kept her in the USA, and paid back her University (she owed 5 years time to them - or repayment) . We would live a much better life where we were living in the USA. I kick myself daily for making the wrong choice of letting her come back here, and me following her.....Really ...Really... Really bad choice!
  17. A 54 year old vehicle sounds like a safe vehicle for driving children around in, and 41 seats? There were more than 41 people onboard.
  18. Thai's don't care, they march on doing the same stupid and dangerous things they always do, no matter how unsafe. I asked an IMPACT employee/guard today why the people are going right through a "STOP" sign in front of him at full speed. They manage the area here in Muang Thong Thani. The traffic in both directions have a "STOP" sign at the intersection, and both have Zebra crossings directly in front of them. The answer from the guard "This isn't America", after telling him he was pretty stupid, I realized there is no changing these dangerous people.
  19. Been living that way since I got here, everything is in my wifes name here in Thailand, I will own nothing while here, all my assets stay in the US and hers stay here in Thailand. We keep completely separate accounts and property. The only thing I keep here is a bank account, purely for immigration purposes, but I do use it to buy some things here when needed.
  20. Just out curiosity, is there no type of fire suppression systems for these tanks? Also, is the issue that this is a conversion, and knowing Thailand, done in an unsafe and dangerous way just to save money?
  21. So do mine, but I got into a heated argument with my daughters teacher, who believes the children don't need to wear seatbelts. In fact, the last trip was by minibus, where the driver had zip-tied the seatbelts out of the way, and my daughter confronted him on it, the teacher said it was "OK, not needed". My daughter was scared to confront the teacher after the teacher didn't stand up for her, and knew my rule that she isn't allowed to go in any vehicle unless she wears one, the teacher kept her on the minibus. I went down one side of the teacher and down the other, I wanted her fired! I told my daughter under no circumstances will she be allowed to ride in any vehicle at school without a seatbelt being used, if they don't have them, or are deliberately sabotaged, she is to get off the bus. I will gladly come pick her up, but there is no way she is not wearing one. My anger over the lack of safety in this country is my major issue with Thailand, and I am sick of the people who allow it to happen, and with blatant ignorance, continue to defend it.
  22. I was waiting for a taser to come out, actually multiple would have been better.
  23. So now your going with nonsensical responses, by using religious discrimination/bias, and your dislike of kids?
  24. Neither are yours, but I would argue safety first, drinking can wait until the flight is over, unless people have a drinking problem.....they should probably get help for that.
