No he wasn't. That was about his dangerous political agenda of retribution. The man is really a monster. He intends to kill American democracy. But killing him isn't the answer. Beating him in the polls soundly is the answer. Killing him would have elevated a more coherent replacement with the exact same anti-American pro dictatorship agenda.

Another absurd suggestion. A strong one third party run would send the election to congress as no candidate would get 270 electoral votes, and then congress would put in Trump.

Clooney is a major democratic party fund raiser and recently experienced the sadly diminished Biden himself at such an event. So Clooney has a lot more credibility than you or I. But who do you think you're fooling? The maga brigade wants Biden to stay in as they think correctly that he will be easier to beat and beat badly than a replacement. If the democrats put in a younger person, the attention will switch to Trump's old age and mental deterioration.

Silly question but are they obligated to take kill shots on shooters? Wouldn't have taken out his legs put him out of service enough to end the threat and then we could learn about his motives PLUS life in prison is really a much harsher punishment than instant death. Also, if hopefully Trump loses and faces the legal consequences he deserves, they could have been prison buddies.

Maybe. I think by the time they were getting Trump off stage they had already killed the shooter. So they weren't risking their lives at that point. HOWEVER, I consider it the job of the secret service to protect the candidate. I DO NOT consider it the job of the secret service to assist a politician in staging a PROPAGANDA stunt. That's indeed what they ended up doing. I don't really blame them. Trump is so good at that kind of thing that it would have been impossible for them to really not play along with that stunt.

Even though I definitely do regard Trump as a fascist and do think if he comes to power again (which most including me think is more likely after this shooting) American democracy is finished, I am definitely very much against political violence from any side. That said, I'm wondering about a counterfactual historical premise. IF the bullet that grazed Trump's ear had hit, what would the political effect be in the US and the world? Who would the republicans then nominate? Would it mean the republicans were bound to win the election without Trump? Would it have meant civil war? I understand if some people don't think it's OK to talk about this here and now, but my point is that we were basically ONE INCH from that becoming reality.
