Hopefully Ukraine with their motivation to not be slaves of Putin and technilogical superiority will be playing other cards to keep them going. Ukraine wants peace and will compromise but they will not surrender.

Its a war. If Ukraine destroys 50 percent of Putin's oil refineries quickly enough Ukraine's recruiting defencies won't matter. No oil. No money. No way for Putin to sustain his genocide.

I think American democracy is already dead and under Vance the republicans won't give up the total power that Trump delivered. There will be elections, but just show elections to gain fake legitimacy as in other authoritarian countries. Also keep in mind that Vance's mentor Thiel who bought him a senate seat has an explicit anti-democracy philosophy.

The damage Trump is doing to prospects for the future prosperity of the USA is yuge and it may be impossible to reverse as the world now sees the USA as an anti-democracy banana republic with no core values and totally unreliable as an ally. Replacements will be made. To paraphrase a pundit I recent heard -- Trump came into office as the leader of the most powerful nation in the world and he will leave office with that no longer the case. All "empires" decline but in the case of Trump it's a suicide.

I suppose it's possible but I think that objectively it's unlikely. That shouldn't give very much hope to decent Americans that want the dystopian maga authoritarianism to end as Vance has the potential of being even worse, though obviously with an entirely different style (or more like lack of style as he has the charisma of a soiled old sofa).
