Yeah Lanzhou noodles is very good. I was aware of one of those Sichuan places in that location. I did try it once and found it OK but I haven't been back. For me, the Sichuan place in Central Mall is much better.

Of course tv and films have replaced novels. Story telling is wired in humans. But reading a well written novel is an entirely different personal experience than watching the story.

Is Trump driving the US into a recession? – in charts

Recession, Depression, Stagflation. Certainly nothing good! -
Teslas torched with Molotov cocktails and shot with gun
Jingthing replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Used Teslas are going cheap now. If you buy a used one, are you helping the evil villain Musk, or not? I'm all for people getting a good deal on EVs and I'm totally against punishing owners. You have no idea of the politics of the people who own them unless they tell you. -
I think it's more or less dead already. Yes many novels are published annually but only a tiny percentage of people read them anymore. It's only a matter of probably a short time before AI can write great novels that will be totally indistinguishable from human written ones. But people still won't read them AI or not. If you meet a young person these days who says they want to be a novelist, perhaps the proper response is to slap them in the face.

It took Dems less than 3 months to turn into Domestic Terrorism
Jingthing replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Since when is vandalism terrorism? -
Not that the magas are logical or anything like that but forcing expats on SS home would be really stupid from a fiscal POV, assuming Medicare will still be around. Medicaid on the other hand they're viciously trashing for all.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
Jingthing replied to Rimmer's topic in Entertainment
Are you even watching it? I think it is the weakest of the three and took too much to warm up but still very entertaining with some gem moments such as -- you're moving to Taiwan?!? -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)

All (anti LGBT) autocratic roads lead to Donald Trump (the Hungary's Orban, etc. - Trump connection). Many Americans like myself are in rather a state of shock that our "president" is now leader of the autocratic world rather than the free world. I put president in quotes because he's ruling as if he's all powerful monarch indeed a kind of demi-God, a state of affairs our founding fathers fought to liberate us from. Yes, I get it -- pro autocracy, anti-democracy Americans love it. The division is as bad it's been since the civil war but a difference now is that the opposition to the autocratic leader and power holds basically NO power. Trump inspires anti-LGBTQ, antidemocratic moves by Erdogan, Orban, Vucic - The Washington Post www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/03/22/trump-orban-erdogan-lgbtq-democracy/

Yeah overall I agree western boomers have been unusually lucky as far as generational timing. Who am I supposed to say thank you to?

Americans anyway -- remember your high school days? Perhaps you were even a theater kid. (I was.) Remember the kind of G rated pablum shows that the school administration allowed to be done and what kinds of shows were deemed too edgy for high school? Not saying that was all that horrible. Fun for the kids and there was an audience for that in even the most unsophisticated backwaters of America. But the premier arts institution of a supposedly becoming "greater" country? Seriously? Obviously Trump cares and knows nothing about the arts. Yet he did this hostile total takeover of the Kennedy Center. To do what? To stage G rated shows that he remembers from his youth which have basically no audience at the Kennedy Center level? Add to that his fascist style wiping of the actually great artistic history of the Center. People -- this is stupid. This is disgusting. And this will fail. Takeover? Not really. Kill it -- more like it. Trump is about to learn an awkward lesson about his influence at the Kennedy Center Don’t cry for him, America, but when it comes to his vision for the Kennedy Center, President Donald J. Trump appears to be dreaming impossible dreams. The president, who is also now the board chair for the Kennedy Center, convened a meeting of said board on Monday. In a recording of the meeting shared with The Washington Post, Trump and members said they’d like to see “Camelot,” “Cats,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Hello, Dolly!” and “The Phantom of the Opera” featured at the Kennedy Center. Speaking with reporters, Trump said, “We’re going to get some very good shows.”

Israeli Tourist's Taxi 'Mishap' Resolved with 1,500 Baht in Pattaya
Jingthing replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I think the tourists were probably upset that they weren't being taken to their destination which is something they desperately needed much more after the incident. Not saying the driver should be expected to drive with the stink of course not but both the driver and the passengers were having a very bad day. So the guy has an accident, now not only pay the fare without getting home, but now pay much more and no way to get home. Not the driver's fault but certainly stressful for the tourists. It's not like there was a hosing down station on the street. -
Nobody is against that but the question is the storm trooper smash it all tactics of DOGE. Also why did you paste all that with NO LINK? Very suspect "facts" if you don't bother to do that.

Nightmare in Kursk: Ukrainian Troops Recount Devastating Retreat
Jingthing replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yes it would but only very naive people don't realize Russia's real intention. To control all of Ukraine, and more. Doesn't need to be literal. Could be like puppet Belarus. A temporary pause whether short or for years will not alter that one bit. Ukraine is seeking an end to this war that is a REAL end to this war so they can move forward in confidence as a sovereign nation. Trump is seeking plundering, business deals with Russia, a short term "win" and a Nobel Peace Prize. He says he trusts Putin. Either he's lying about that or he's even stupider than he appears. -
Acting Social Security head threatens to shut down agency
Jingthing replied to TheAppletons's topic in Political Soapbox
Atrocious. It's too bad the pain from this can't be limited only to those who foolishly asked for this -- Trump voters and maga cult members. But as a notorious republican legislator once quipped about his airport bathroom activities -- damage from maga fascism has a wide stance.
