  1. Tuhlaajapoika is a 1992 Finnish film that you are very unlikely to have heard of unless you're an older Finn. English title The Prodigal Son. I am attracted to novelties and the plot line of an ex-con happening upon a new vocation of beating up people for a living sounded original. So I watched the entire movie. I do regret it. That said, the subtext of dated Finnish homophobic themes was somewhat interesting. Perhaps best paired with the excellent Tom of Finland documentary Daddy and the Muscle Academy.
  2. Yes and no. Trump's epic idiocy will make Americans much poorer and more aftaid to spend money on anything. So the trade deficits will naturally shrink because of that self inflicted Trump pain. The world will suffer too. American consumer spending is normally 70 percent of the American economy but also 20 percent of the global economy.
  3. Anyone American that actually believes the Liberation Day branding has clearly been liberated from their rationality long ago.
  4. Yes the USA as leader of the free world is over. Now the USA isn't even leader of the autocratic world. The USA has now "brexited" away from the entire world. Sure the USA can produce a lot of things efficiently but nowhere near everything. It's tragic but I guess we deserve it. Champagne is popping in Moscow and especially Beijing.
  5. You bought the big lie. Trump's so called "reciprocal tariffs" (actually Trump's Massive Tax Hike for American consumers) is not based on the target nation's tariff rates. It's shocking ow many ignorant people are buying his garbage sleazy lies. They are actually computed by trade imbalances. This is so incredibly stupid. Trade is usually good for both parties. So Americans buy more Thai goods than Thai's buy American goods. DUH! The USA has a much bigger population and is much richer than Thailand. Do you think Americans should now grow all the rice noodles they need at home? WHY? Take Colombia another irrationally hard hit nation. The USA produces about 1 percent of their coffee (basically in Hawaii). So now moron knows nothing about economics Trump thinks what? That the USA should grow all if's coffee now? Pure self destructive idiocy. Tariffs can be useful when narrowly and strategically used to help specific local industries. The exact opposite of Trump's self destructive tarriff the entire world self destructive iNSANITY. Now even if Trump backed out of all of this tomorrow which of course ge won't the damage has already been done. The entire world now knows (tragically) that the USA is not a serious nation and should never be trusted at all. Americans are going to be paying in pain for the mistake of putting Trump 2,0 for generations to come.
  6. The idiocy of the Trump Tariff Tax is epic! I heard a great suggestion about this. Retailers should include how much is the Trump Tariff Tax on all items. Americans -- stock up on on the old prices quickly!
  7. Trump trying to rewrite history. Much like Putin and other historical autocrats.
  8. Trade imbalances have nothing to do with tariffs. Trump is lying about tariff reciprocity. Belarus and North Korea also excused.
  9. A long while back I thought Tesla stock was a good investment but passed on it only because of my opposition to the political views of Musk.
  10. Does not charge the US 10 percent. Tariff those penguins!
  11. Calling it Liberation Day is a big lie. It's actually Trump's Biggest Tax Hike in American History Day.
  12. Maybe if we try to fool them that we're actually not U.S. citizens, we might get an all expenses paid trip to El Salvador?
  13. Here goes: -- There are uninhabited islands on the 10 percent tariffs list -- Ukraine gets 10 percent. Having their civilians murdered daily by Trump's buddy Putin isn't enough punishment? -- Russia mysteriously missing. No tariffs for Putin, The one and only big country missing, -- Colombia hit hard. Americans love and need their coffee fix to help productivity. There is almost no coffee grown in the USA.
  14. A walk on the wild side in Sao Paolo Brazil. Dark stuff but not nearly as depressing as the subject matter might suggest. ‘Baby’ Review: Gritty and Tender Brazilian Drama About a Gay Teen As Baby opens, the title character, whose given name is Wellington, has a taste of freedom for the first time in nearly two years. He’s ending his stint in a youth detention center, a place with the grim industrial aura of a high-security prison — but also one where there are occasional breaks for drum-and-brass musical performances. Freedom presents particular challenges for Wellington, who discovers upon return to his working-class São Paulo neighborhood that his parents have left the city. There’s no forwarding address. Stepping into the void is a man more than twice his age, offering a confusing tangle of care and possessiveness as lover, mentor, business partner and paternal protector. www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/baby-review-gay-teen-gritty-tender-brazilian-drama-1235913988/
  15. Learn from history but too late because the USA is ruled by a dictatorial power mad man who knows nothing about economics. I don't know how he can be stopped now. The republicans certainly won't,
  16. Perhaps intentionally. Then the oligarchs can buy everything super cheap.
  17. This isn't really about expat to expat stuff but it's fair to say the westerners are more hostile to American expats now while Russians will tend to think we are the same as them now.
  18. With Trump's actively destroying everything the USA has stood for for decades. yes China's offs of hegemony have greatly increased.
  19. Well I don't know yet, but I'm sure when the bad effects hit millions of Thai people that the government will make it crystal clear who is to be blamed -- the USA. So American expats here might become revenge targets. Could be similar to the wave of "Asian hate" that hit the USA because of Covid.
  20. You're wrong. This isn't about negotiating deals. This is Trump's ideology and he wants it to be permanent. Tariffs to replace taxes. Make the poorer Americans pay more and the rich ones pay less or nothing. This is a bait and switch. If this had been openly explained that he was going to institute massive PAIN of most regular Americans, he would have had zero chance of being elected.
  21. Yes there are many very stupid Americans, but they will be feeling the reality of this very soon indeed.
  22. I think the most pain from the Trump Tariff Disastrously mistaken trade war with the entire world will hit lower and middle class Americans -- but it will also greatly hurt the targets such as Thailand at least for the shorter and medium term. So when that happens and there is no doubt that it will happen here in Thailand, there is also no doubt that Thai politicians will not blame themselves for the pain. They'll blame the USA. That's normal politics in any country. So the question I have which I don't know the answer yet of course -- will there be a negative impact on American expats in Thailand? As far as government policies targeting Americans specifically and/or a growing wave of anti-Americanism among Thai people? Expat Americans in Thailand -- you may like or not like Trump, but to non-Americans you are walking talking representatives of his incredibly toxic regime.
