  1. My general reply to this is simple. Don't absolutely believe anything you see or read on the Internet, even on sites like AseanNow. Treat all this information the same way you'd treat a lively conversation between your friends and strangers sitting in a bar and drinking beer. Listen to their stories, tell some of your own, and enjoy them - but NEVER NEVER NEVER place an absolute belief on any of them that that is true. All this is just entertaining conversation.
  2. Totalitarianism (autocracy) should be on the far right. Democracy should be on the far left.
  3. What you've posted is just someone's opinion. I have my own opinion, and I disagree with that one. I've posed an image describing what I agree with when I use the terms Left and Right, Liberal and Conservative. I won't bother posting it again, but that's what I believe. Socialism and capitalism are economic systems. Authoritarianism and libertarianism are governmental systems. You can mix and match them, as well as other economic and governmental systems, any way you want.
  4. I disagree with this chart. I think the arrows should be labeled More Social Awareness and More Individual Obsession. I agree with the Left Wing and Right Wing descriptions, but not the Far and Extreme Left and Right descriptions.
  5. The government, whatever kind it is, could suggest I work somewhere on something, but the final choice of where I work and what I do would be mine.
  6. No, I would work where I wanted and thought I could contribute the most value to society. In return, society would provide for my needs as best it could. That's socialism.
  7. "Could" means "that's a possibility, one of many." Socialism is an economic system and can exist under almost any form of government. That includes authoritarianism and democracy. In fact, a socialist democratic republic is exactly what I hope the USA, in fact, the world, will be someday.
  8. Not that it matters to me, but I'd guess from your AseanNow Forum name you're from Ireland.
  9. Yes, I agree that warning anyone to leave a public space because of their race is "crossing the line" out of free speech.
  10. Best post of the day. ' laugh and the whole world laughs with you. except for some on here. And the "some" include all those voting for Trump.
  11. The US needs a president who will help resolve our differences and pull the country together. In other words, "Not Trump."
  12. … after spending millions $ of taxpayers money and waste of time for two unsuccessful procedures of impeachment. What about the George Floyd incident? Dems did not care about drug addict G.F’s death but they use it as a pretext to burn and loot many cities. Where were they for the murder of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Gloria Cassio, Ruby Garcia, Christopher Gadd, Travis Wolfe, Alex Wise Jr., Lisbeth Medina, Jeremy Poou-Caceres, Melissa and Riordan Powell, Aiden Clark, Rachel Morin, etc…Nowhere to be seen and they couldn’t even pronounce their name for the State of the Union speech. But they (Democrats) did not terrorize their opponents with phone calls, calling them names and threatening their lives and families. They challenged their defeat in the courts and challenged their opponents in Congress using the prescribed methods.
  13. My knowledge of history may be deficient, but not my knowledge of English. I am "another Leftist." I do not support terror or hate Jews or Arabs. Therefore, I am not anti-Semitic. Here is a good description of the differences between left-wing and right-wing: Left-Wing vs Right-Wing (10 Key Ideological Differences) (2024)
  14. Countries with socialist economic systems could have a dictatorship as a government, yes. But they could also have a republic as a government. The same goes for countries with capitalistic economies.
  15. Yes, Ghengis Khan was a dictator, an indication that he was a right-winger. Hitler was not a socialist; he was a fascist, which is a type of an extreme right-winger. Putin is also a dictator, or at least an authoritarian, thus a right-winger. Netanyahu is definitely a right-winger. I'm not an anti-Semite or anti-Jewish. I am anti-genocide. And, you should look up the word "Semite" before you go around accusing people who criticizes the Israelis for waging a war against Palestinian Arabs of being "an anti semite." "Sem·ite [ˈsiːmʌɪt, ˈsɛmʌɪt] noun a member of any of the peoples who speak or spoke a Semitic language, including in particular the Jews and Arabs." Oxford Language Online Dictionary.
  16. I understand it all except for the last part, where he claims the US "needs" Trump. That, I deny with all my heart.
  17. There are other photos of them that show them outside of the rope line and not just chilling in a chair...
  18. No, I will live here in Thailand in the mountains and let my fellow citizens in the USA sort things out by themselves. Right-wingers do have a long history of murder, from Ghengis Khan to Hitler and now Putin and Netanyahu.
  19. The least likely. China Venezuela Cambodia Russia National Socialist Germany Great track record No, none of these have a socialist or communist economy. They all practice capitalism. Some, like the USA, do have a mix of capitalism and socialism, but none has true socialism. But yes, all on the list do have, IMO, an authoritarian government. We in the USA have what I would call a plutocracy disguised as a democratic republic.
  20. Yes, I am a far-left anti-capitalist. I prefer a socialist economy. I don't want power in my hands. I want to live in a democracy. If there are ditches full of bodies, they were probably put there by right-wing fascists.
  21. "Cackling" and storming the Capitol are two different things. No, challenges are not usually a part of an election, but I looked it up and there were four instances of it. Four Times the Results of a Presidential Election Were Contested | Smithsonian
  22. No, you can have a socialist economy with several different kinds of government. Authoritarianism would be possible but the least likely. The most likely would be a democracy.
  23. I'm a far-left liberal, and I didn't vote for Trump. I am not, however, in support of genital mutilation of children (circumcision?), segregation, racial preferences, and anti-Semitism. I am in favor of anti-Americanism if that means being against most of the features that Trump and his supporters consider "American values," like Christian nationalism, capitalism, anti-immigrant, and White supremacy.
  24. They did not accept defeat in 2016, so they challenged it in the courts, not the streets. And, as you know, they lost. Then, they reluctantly accepted it.
  25. Yes, but in I think it's 13 + DC you do not. So, roughly one third Besides .. so what? One is too many. Every vote is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. I actually agree with you that everyone who votes should be required to identify themselves. The problem with IDs is that not everyone has one. I don't think that just because someone does not have a particular type of ID, they should not be allowed to vote. For example, perhaps they could be accompanied by someone else who could vouch for their identity. However, voting requirements are left up to each state. Some, as you indicate above, require no ID, and some, unfortunately, will only accept a short list of photo IDs that not everyone has. The bottom line for me is that not having an ID should not be a big problem. Your vote could be taken but put on hold somehow, and only counted if its necessary to determine the outcome of the election. Then, your vote could be scrutinized more closely.
